Hey guys, I'm new to NT, although I have been checking the JB forum for info for a while now. I'm 21 and have been collecting kicks ( mostly airjordans) for about 2 years now. Here is what my JB collection looks like, then I have a question:
DMP 1 celts/bulls pack
Hare 1s
Fire red III
Playoff VIII
Nubuck XII
Black/ Grey VII
CDP: 2/21, 9/14, 11/12, 5, 6

So obviously all of my shoes are more recent retros and I really don't have any exposure to the retros/OGs from before about 2006 besides a couple pairs Ihad as a kid. I know that a big issue with the recent retros has been quality, which makes me wonder if I should start investing in some older retros/OGs. Theonly problem is I like to wear all my shoes, some of them only indoors or for just ball, but am affraid that older kicks will wear down quick or just straightup fall apart even though they have good quality just due to age. What are your guys thoughts on this, and do any of you guys consistently wear or ball inolder Jordans??? Thanks in advance.

i have shoes from 1996 all the way to now. and i've worn alot of them that sat their for a few years. i have never ever seen a shoe fall apart. thats justme though. maybe real old shoes will. i would just be concerned about yellowing etc. if you go to buy shoes from vintagekicks it will usually tell you if thereis an issue with the shoes quality

you may wanna wait for some of these other old timers on here to chip in though. im sure someone will have something to say.

ok thanks, I have never been on vintage kicks I'll have to check it out. I either cop from the store or just go on eBay...

i know there is some good people on ebay but i dont bother with it just because i'd rather be safe than sorry. plus i hate buying stuff from overseas.vintagekicks is the truth though. they have almost anything you could want. some people on here say that they are over priced but i dont mind.

There are some of the newer shoes that people talk about that are good for balling such as the XXI/XXI and the XX3 is a durable shoe. If you are going to getactual OG's of some of the older ones I wouldnt advise putting heavy wear on them with basketball but they might be okay to wear casually every now andthen, this is just what I see alot of people around here saying.

Edit: But I think you should get what you like/can afford. Some of the older ones are more expensive than the newer due to demand, but if you really like theshoe and dont plan on putting TONS of wear on them then theres nothing wrong having lesser quality...a shoe is a shoe its all about what you like

Welcome to Niketalk.

A few pairs can still be worn. Others have a higher chance at falling apart.

As a general rule I follow, foam mid-soles deteriorate faster than rubber, of course. So anything foam prior... 2000? I wouldn't wear simply becauseit's too much of a risk. For example.... 4s, 5s, 6s. Other factors you need to consider is the gluing, glue will wear down and weaken if it's flexedconstantly and aged.

There are wearable pairs, just very few. Depends on your luck.

If you're hesitant on a particular pair, just post here. I wouldn't recommend buying much older retros solely to play basketball in if that's whatyour question is.

thanks for the info guys. jordanhead21, I have been playing ball outside in my CDP 21s and they may be the most comfortable jordan I have ever played in...when I play indoors I have been wearing either my CDP 6s or 11s. I know a lot of ppl like to wear the classics just as a style shoe, but I love wearing them onthe court, after all thats what they are made for.

i wouldnt rock Og's that are ds but earlier retros i would rock no question asked like early 2000 retros

You should be good with anything early 2000 on to ball in. When It comes to OG's and older stuff...get what you like. Its a lot of good stuff out there toget.

my 2001 black/cement IIIs fell apart on me. but i rocked the %@* out of those. back heeltab cracked.... lesson learned dont ride your bike or work on your carwith III's on. im in search for another pair or two

. i refuse tobuy the CDPs

My retro Infrared 6's fell apart on me..The foam cracked and the sole came off..I have some OG 12's and they are still wearable, so I don'thesitate to break those out from time to time..

so i've been thinking about grabbing some 2001 space jams once i come accross em at a good price. sounds like as long as they are in good shape they shouldhold up to ball in?

^^Why would you play basketball in Space Jams..?

Wear them forcasual and get cheaper Nike shoes that are better to play in...

I just feel like as a bball shoe collector there is no point in buying all the stuff you really like if your not gunna play ball in em. I wear a lot of themcasually as well and some just on the court. I can easily understand the other side of the argument... I just feel like I enjoy a lot of my shoes a lot more onthe court.

the oldest Jordans I currently own are from 2000 and they are in excellent shape, so if you invest in some older Jordans, make sure they were kept in goodcondition by the previous owner.

thanks again for the info guys im gunna think about it... either way i wanna get a pair of 2001 space jams cuz they are sick. but i've also been playing inmy paul pierce PE sharkleys which take a lot of breaking in but are nice

The only OG's you can ball in are XVI's - XX3's.

Others will fall apart on you. Just move on with the newer stuff because once you get a older retro you'll be mad bout the horrible quality.
