OSHKOSH, Wisconsin - After teasing the crowd with several passes high over the airport here, White Knight Two touched down Monday afternoon before a packed crowd at the big AirVenture airshow.

The bizarre looking twin-boom aircraft from Scaled Composites made a quiet approach before landing on Runway 18. The aircraft, christened "Eve" in honor of financial backer Richard Branson's mother, will carry Virgin Galactic's SpaceShipTwo and the space tourists within to more than 50,000 feet.

The composite airplane's wing spar is said to be the largest single piece of carbon fiber composite ever constructed. The craft can carry 17 tons to an altitude of 52,000 feet. In addition to carrying SpaceShipTwo, the airplane also will carry future astronauts on training missions.

Riding in the fuselage boom opposite the pilots, future astronauts will ride on a parabolic flight path similar to the famed NASA "Vomet Comet," giving passengers some experience in weightlessness. The plane will then enter a descending turn giving passengers more than 30 seconds where they will feel four times the force of gravity, a feeling similar to the g loading they will feel on reentry.

We're slated to talk to Eve's designer, the legendary Burt Rutan, and her pilot. Look for that post soon. Meanwhile, check out our pics after the jump.

Yeah, we know. There's a shadow. Someone stepped right in front of the photo pool. Moron.

I don't think the plane actually goes into space. It's suppose to carry something in the middle?
