Exclusive contracts have been a bad thing for the 4 major sports.

Lack of variety and competition. Hell NFL wise as a kid you could get a replica of your favorite team or player in champion, starter, puma, adidas, and Nike all regardless of the contract situation.

Authentic wise, different brands meant different prices and some brands making better authentics then others.

The late 90's was good.
Champion, Nike, and starter. (Puma eventually took over all the starter teams except the hornets) for the NBA.

Starter, puma, reebok the first time they made NFL jerseys 95-98, nike, adidas all made NFL authentics.

I like having different choices to choose from.

yellow is 100% legit

the purple just looks weird, still could be legit i dont even think they made too many fake size 40's if any at all but that was awhile ago so my memory is off.

Good points about different companies creating competition. I'd argue that say you were a Knicks fan in 1999...and say you loved the dri-fits that nike teams were wearing. If you were set on buying a Knicks Sprewell, the jersey-maker wouldn't sway you, BUT if you liked to buy jerseys from multiple teams then yes it definitely would. I remember getting a dri-fit Nowitzki the first year of the navy dri fit era and LOVED how it fit more than anything. I remember thinking how I wish the Knicks were a Nike team. That was when authentics were $160ish before any discounts. 

I really wish someone could publish authentic jersey sales over the last 10 years, because we all know they've been going downhill with the decrease in quality and the abhorrent increase in price.

This is my major problem. Even Puma made some sick jerseys.
