Official AUTHENTIC NBA JERSEY Post - Bringin Back the JERSEY ERA... (Info/Guide = Page 1)

Thanks guys!

^ They were already framed, so not sure if it is the limited version. I don't think it is though, never seen any for the bird UDA jerseys.

@benchwarmer23

I don't know the exact answer but here's what I do know:

Champion became the official jersey provider brand in 1990-1991. Here's Jordan's champion gamers from his first 3 years. I bring these up just for reference; this shows that champion started stitching bulls jerseys in 92/93 and the retail authentics likely followed suit. The jersey didn't seem to change from 90/91 to 91/92, which would lead me to believe that the retail version didn't change during this time.

90/91

91/92

92/93

Retail authentics, 91-92 (guess), jordan with high jerry logo (likely same retail jersey as 90-91 based on what I said above)

This jordan is a "european" authentic (sold overseas). I have no proof but just based on experience. They are known for their wack-looking jerry logo

I think this is a real first gen champion retail authentic

I find this one suspect. Champion fakes are uncommon but it's not unheard of to come across fake champion jordans from all eras.  The shape seems too wide and the jerry logo has wierd placement. I've seen fake jerseys with a similar shape/jerry logo placement. When in doubt, I pass.

I had seen pics of other old nba jersey catalogs that may be of further help, but I can't find them. I should have saved them. Hopefully I will come across them again.

Hope this helps.

the last mj's immediately looked a bit weird to me as well. not because of the jerry cuz it seems to be placed at the same place as on gamers but because of the shape and that stiff screen print. honestly, i doubt it's fake. never seen a fake 90's champion, i think they even don't exist. correct me if i'm wrong.

since they used to put jerry at different place back then and even released bordered (european) version, perhaps they also released this mj's with different cut for a particular season (or part of it). i don't see a better explanation.

the other thing that came across my mind is that this might be altered game jersey. with champion jocktag put on afterwards. but there are pretty good looking side slits at hem.

don't know, hard to say.

i'm glad that we cleared out this whole story.

This thread has become a monster but every now and then this type of discussion gets brought up and there's some good insight provided.

I agree its not so much the nba logo but the really wide cut of the last jersey that makes it suspect. Just look at how small the jock tag is compared to the rest of the jersey; but maybe its a procut and im wrong.

And I have seen fake retail authentic and gamer jordans....usually it's the cut of the jersey that gives it away.

What I need to do is save these ads or anything else that's clear cut evidence of what an authentic jersey should look like. I rely too much on memory and I may forget down the road.

I've thoroughly enjoyed guys like you in this thread. Tho I don't buy nba jerseys, I still love them and the history you guys give.

^ M&N has always been an interesting topic to me: It was a way to show respect for older players from the 60’s, 70’s, 80’s, etc that previously wasn't available.. It was such a genius idea, especially when jerseys hit their peak as a fashion statement in the early 2000’s.

Now Mitchell and Ness are producing jerseys from the 90’s and 00’s, some of which had been available for purchase during that era. Some of us on here are “purists” and would consider M&N a “reproduction” and not the real thing (full disclosure, I would fall into this group, but I still enjoy their releases and seeing what direction they are heading with future releases). There’s so many ways to slice this topic:

-M&N now producing “replicas” and now offering a replica/authentic inventory, attempting to differentiate their brand and add prestige to their authentic line

-Some of the original 90’s jerseys, particularly the ASG jerseys, are virtually impossible to obtain and M&N is the only option

-M&N sometimes badly misses the mark (i.e. their Vancouver Grizzlies release)

-Adidas saying F-U to authentic jersey collectors since 2011. Conflict of interest as M&N is owned by Adidas.

Due to some of these points above, I think we are seeing a shift that more and more people are warming up to M&N. I notice more and more M&N throwbacks at sporting events.

What is the backlash with Adidas about?

Are M&N jerseys the same quality as the Adidas Authentics ?

And if i'm not killing you with questions, what are the OG 90's/00's that everybody is fond of, Champion Authentics?

M&N uses different materials than the Adidas authentics. People complain about the material of M&N because the mesh they use is way off and the cut is off as well, and some jerseys were poorly redesigned (like the Grizzlies mentioned earlier). The current Adidas authentics are the Revolution 30, and they are really expensive for no reason, they are really long and weird fitting, and its a pain to find them with the proper mesh lettering that is used in the game. I have been buying jerseys for 12 years but I haven't bought anything current for 3 years now because I'm unhappy with the way they are produced. MLB manages to make quality jerseys, so they continue to get my money when I find something I like.

And the jerseys from the 90s/00s were typically made by Champion or Nike (starting in the 97-98 year). Starter and Puma also made a few jerseys in the late 90s but those aren't really collected that heavily. Some of the jerseys that people really want were never made for retail by Champion, so the only options are to find a pro cut/game used version or buy the M&N version.

M&N are good buys then you get them for 50% off or more

Retail? Nah

No point in complaining if you get a nice throwback for $150 bucks

If there isn't one already we definitely should have page 1 of this thread updated with info and knowledge of the NT community on jerseys. Especially MJ's. Everything just gets lost within the thread so having a reference just works.

true, there are fake mj's pro cuts/gamers of both champion and nike as well fake nike retail authentic.

what i wanted to say is that i've never seen fake champion retail authentic. not just mj's but any other champion authentic from 90's (single tag).

i might have missed some...

Pickups

The Kobe will have to go. Not happy with the build quality (compared to USA game issued ones)
what's wrong with kobe?

send it to my place if you don't like it.

+1

some recent posts really deserve to be included.
