Why don't young "shoe-heads" live in the "now" rather than chasing retroes??

but I am, I make like 4.5 Gs a year, and thats only workin weekends plus summers. Im smart with my spending and save like 70% but that leaves me alotta money to buy what I want with.

I should know better tryin to prove a point to some high school kids that barely grow arm pit hair, who care about nothing then just lookin "fly"...excuse me while I cook dinner for my wife and kids and take care of other priorities.

I'm 16, and i understand what you are saying, but Michael Jordan was the best to ever play the game and I'm pretty sure everyone here knows that. Inever grew up being able to watch the games live, or see him cry after he won the championship. I did play basketball, and he became my idol. Since I wasunable to watch the games and whatnot I had to resort to something else to show that he is one of my idols. That's when a friend of mine introduced me tomy love. At first, they were just shoes that looked cool and made people look at me differently. But after a little bit, i decided to do some sole searching. Iwas able to tell which shoes he wore in what championship, and which shoes were his favorite, and why shoes looked the way they did. I was insane for thesethings that go on your feet. Then i realized, they're more than just shoes, they're art.. they're what keeps Michael Jordan alive and living in theyoung community even though he retired from basketball. Sure, i never watched him growing up. I was too young to understand. There's only one way i candescribe how jays make me feel. Every single time i pull out a box of jays, and smell the new shoe smell, and i feel the material, and i see myself in themirror, i smile and think of Michael. Michael designed these shoes for him to play in. He destroyed in these shoes, in this colorway. If you want me to stopcollecting jays because i never watched him growing up, I'm not going to. I'm not going to go and buy some LeBrons or Kobes because they're heretoday. They haven't inspired me to play basketball. Michael Jordan did. Kobe is never going to be as good as Michael was. You know why? Because MJ changedthe game of basketball in a way that Kobe could never do. He inspired so many people to pick up a basketball and shoot some hoops, way more than Kobe ever willI know that. I think i've made my point. Peace.

I didn't miss any point. The OP should have asked his question without the dumb suggestion that we wear ugly current shoes.

Wrong again. The OP is ASKING a question, and if any of you would bother to read, you would understand because it has been clarified many times by mself, afew others and the OP himself throughout this thread.

What he is saying is that the main reason older "heads" originally got into Jordans back in the day was because of MJ. He was the best player andwanted to play like him and wear the shoes he was wearing. The QUESTION he is asking is if guys like Kobe and Lebron are "today's MJ's" whyaren't more young "heads" interested in wearing their shoes? If the answer is as simple as their shoes are ugly and Jordans are nicer, fine. But you guys have to get off this argument that does not exist. No one, including the OP is saying that younger heads have to idolize MJ or be born in the70's to wear Jordans.

Enough of this B.S. This was supposed to be a harmless thread that was supposed to just get a discussion going about what gets people into buying Jordans, butit has been turned into some "us vs. them" thread by people like you who get their backs up for no reason at all. Talk about"egomaniacs"...

Well if the OP was smart enough to realize that Kobe's and Lebron's are ugly, then why did he make a dumb suggestion like "Why not live 'inthe now' and get the shoes that your current favorite players are wearing?"
This is the part that was a little insulting: "There is no way you can look at a pair of Jordans coming out and say, "oh man, I remember when he worethose" or "I used to have a pair of those".
It's like, okay, so what if they can't remember when he wore them. What is the big effin deal? Jordan are tight, end of story.

Of course you left out the question that came after that statement. Here is what the thread is all about (now readcarefully):

"My question is.... all you current collectors who are in high school or younger, what is your intrigue for all theseretro shoes coming out? There is no way you can look at a pair of Jordans coming out and say, "oh man, I remember when he wore those" or "I usedto have a pair of those". Why not live "in the now" and get the shoes that your current favorite players are wearing? (Lebrons and Kobesfor example)"

So... once again... all he is saying that, since it is not possible for you to wear/buy Jordans for the memories they bring back or the nostalgia, what drawsyou to them? Why don't more people buy shoes that today's best players or your current favorite players wear? If it's just because "Jordansare tight" and Lebrons and Kobes are ugly, that's fine. No big effin deal at all. It was just a question. Maybe it was a naive question, but it wasjust a question. He is NOT saying you have to remember anything about when MJ wore the shoes for you to buy them. No matter how much you insist the OP wastrying to insult younger sneaker heads... he was not.

Now... I'm tired of trying to explain this thread to you guys. I've tried to be helpful and explain it to you, only to be referred to as an egomaniac. So, if you still don't get it, it's only because you read into it what you want to and you choose to be stubborn and stand your ground when you haveno ground to stand on at all.

It's kinda like saying youth today cannot listen to tupac and biggie. You must listen to lil Wayne which is ridiculous. The great thing about jordans isthat it's for all generations. The design of the shoe is revolutionary with the greatest player ever to play in them. I can perfectly understand why kidsnot "og" will like them.

I still don't understand why the OP got so much hate on us young sneakerheads
I already posted my thoughts but it's just plain selfishness if he doesn't want any other generation to have sneakers from JB

yea im 27 and im glad that JB retro a lot of those shoes, didnt have the parents or the money to buy me kicks that costed anywhere near $80.00 lol, but yea itsnice having all the retros for peeps like me, even tho i cant really wear em out to any real occasions but to the gym or the grocery store.

Are you serious op? Liking Jordans doesn't have to mean I have to necessarily grow up watching him, I like comic books to but I wasn't born in the1960s to grow up with spiderman. Also another thing; Gap, Old Navy, LRG, those are 3 clothing lines that I wear and I sure don't know the founder is but doI have to? All I know is that they look nice and comfy so I buy it... Same thing with Jordans, they are comfy basketball shoes so why not? Why are the oldersneakerheads always wondering about what the younger sneakerheads are up to? So what if we buy js? Why would it matter if the younger generation didn'tgrow up seeing the bulls winning back to back championships or MJ getting his 6th ring, they're just basketball shoes and I wear em because they look sexy

He's not saying you have to like MJ to wear Jordans. You, along with half the other people who posted misunderstood the thread.

^23collector, I admire your persistence, this could have been an interesting topic

Kids, the OP is NOT pointing fingers, or making a statement. He is simply asking a question.

If my uncle asked me why guys born in the late 70's/ early 80's wear Chucks today, I would certainly not take any offense.

Reading is fundamental!

i love jordans, but as of late im thinking of putting up the kicks. IM 16 and have better options in spending my money.

Wow everyone posting in this forum is under 21, I cant beleive you guys have a great memory of MJ in his last games as a bull and the fact that u knew aboutthe shoes. My 6 year old goes through kix like drinking water and has no clue on what I'm placing on his feet.

to me. well first you gota kno that i rarly ever saw anthing on T.V. before 95(i didnt have and the closet was my cuz down the street) so the memories ofjordans for me were form watching my uncle wear them he work at the NIKE DC so he alwasy had the newest jays and the newest jordan gear(he almost alwasy goteverything free), but when i first started making money i started to buy shoes and to me especially the CORTEZ( it was the first pair fo nikes i ever saw. myuncle gave a pair to my mom) is what im fond of. when it comes to jordan i slowly started gettin more and more into the older models that i never saw on TVunless it was on my uncle feet. NOw i just buy stuff that i like not what hyped up. so il buy jordan(old and new) Nike (old and New) sometimes its stuff that iremember and sometimes its just shoes that started to grow on me.

Note im 21 by the way
moved to the US in 94.
Even tho i wsa in Mex. i knew who Jordan was
I also dont buy alot of other shoes that are IN cuz youl never see me in a pair of skinnies
and if you do its cuz im to cheap to replace my 5year old jeans

Hopefully you understand my bad spelling and grammer.
