Happily. It's nice to see someone interested in looking into something quality.

In my opinion, De La Soul is the best hip-hop group of all time. Not only do they have an incredibly consistent discography that stands right up against Wu,Outkast, ATCQ, Gangstarr, and others, but unlike so many of these excellent groups/duos, De La has never had any internal beefs/issues or breakups. That rightthere says a lot in my opinion. There's simply no other group that has remained as consistent, relevant, and unified as they have over their impressivecareer.

As for starting points, I'd go with either De La Soul... Is Dead or 3 Feet High and Rising. ...Dead such an incredible album, that really hits on whattheir early style was about and is also pretty easily accessible. Then of course you gotta peep their debut, 3 Feet High and Rising. Prince Paul absolutelylaced that joint. It was the very first rap album to sample other records the way it did. A true benchmark in hip-hop. Those 2 albums are essential.

After that, I'd jump to 2004's The Grind Date, which shows just how amazing they are to still be putting out classics after all that time. It soundsfresh as hell, and still stands up against just about everything dropping in 2009.

Stakes Is High is another absolute essential, and may be one of the most accessible records. Great summer album, Definitely one of the best albums in 1996.

Honestly, every De La album is worth peeping, but I'd start there. Buhloone Mindstate, the AOI albums, and their rarity collections are all awesome too.

De La is probably the most underrated Hip-Hop group of all time and all of thier work is nice IMO. I guess it would be nice to start from the beginning with"3 Feet High & Rising" and just zone out to all thier albums.

Don't mean to grave dig but I needed this as a 22 year old Black male there's nothing much to listen too,

2013 hip hop ain't **** thanks OP.

****** looking like Larry Holmes flabby and sick, trying to playa hate on my ****....

I don't think they have ever put out a bad album.

Some shine brighter than others, but every one has gems.

What a gravedig but I can't hate it. I'd start with De La Soul is Dead and Stakes is High, my 2 favorite albums from them.

"breakadaaaaaaaaaaawn... breakadawAwAwn... a 1-2, a 1-2"

Named my first daughter Aiyanna and years later went back to listen to Buhloone Mindstate after having it as a teen and realized that's where I got my daughter's name.

I've seen these dudes in small venues three times. Something about their music puts me in like an outer body trance. Great post STR1NGER and great thread OP.

And don't sleep on their song with Teenage Fanclub from the Judgement Night soundtrack. A VERY slept on soundtrack btw.

These dudes have been ahead of their time.

I personally prefer A Tribe Called Quest, but De La Soul still gets play in the ride. Can't go wrong with Stakes Is High or 3 Feet High And Rising.
