My sons team, Tulane, got waxed by BYU last night. To say the least I am not impressed with them at all, we played 15 freshman in the loss. Cody got a helment to the knee in the 4th quarter, from a 350 LB guard, and will have a MRI tomorrow to establish how bad his MCL was injured. We would appreciate a prayer, he did jack him up some BYU butt before he went out, made a great hit on a RB on a pitch that was recovered and went in for a TD that got called back on a penalty. This will be long but hopefully helpful.

BYU is overall not very athletic but very disciplined and very well coached. Only 3 African American, or black, whatever is politically correct players on the entire team. Two of the black players are corners and 1 wide receiver.

Offense: QB looks like he is 5"11 with a beer belly. Somewhat mobile but is very intelligent and disciplined and will not make mistakes. No throws over 25 yds but is pinpoint accurate and will tuck and run if it is not there.

RB's: Very big and not very fast. Did not see one run more than 8 yds on Tulane but they will have a 4 yd push from the OL. Neither one runs faster than a 4.7 and make very few cuts. They don't have to as they have major road graders in front of them!

WR'S: A nightmare! Not one with more than 4.7 speed but can you say "HANDS"! Big guys all over 6'2" with superglue on their fingers. Danger is not in their athletic ability but they run precision routes and will flood a zone with 3 receivers. I can see this being a major problem if the D runs zone coverage. I promise you none of them are impressive until you see them go up for a ball and take it out of the DB's hands. All are posession receivers with nary a speed guy, even the black WR is not very fast but will snatch a fly out of the air!

TE: Huge body guys around 250 that again are sure handed. Will line up in the slot to flood the zone which causes nightmares unless the safeties are on their game. LB's will be drawn to the other side as they run a 2 TE setup as needed to give space to the opposite side of the field.

OL: Here is your worst dream come true. The offensive line weighs over 1600 lbs! Freaks of nature with major discipline. They will stay on the block until the whistle blows, continuing downfield 10 yds or more on running plays. Solid brick wall on pass blocking, can be picked apart if we Y cross on the blitz or bring major pressure off the corner. Only problem is the QB has 5 receivers and makes lightning quick decisions on his throws.

We did manage to injure the 6'6"300 lb LG so give us some credit for that. His back up is only 6'2" 280 so take advantage of the help!

DEFENSE:

Again I will reiterate that they are not very athletic but VERY disciplined and make very few mistakes. We did manage to give a concussion to the FS as he tried to tackle our RB with his head down and received a very nice knee to the helment. Thought he had perished until his feet finally moved after a five minute nap!

DL: Nose tackle 6'1" 309, Left End 6'4" 260, Right End 6'3" 265. Not athletic as we are used to but just huge and have motors that do not stop! Very good technique and relentless in pursuit.

LB"S: SLB 6'3" 230, MLB 6'1" 230, BLB 6'2" 232, WLB 6'3" 240. Not fast but again disciplined and will fill the gaps without fail. Weakness is in coverage.

DB's: Except for the two brothers on the corners not much athleticism. i cannot stress how disciplined and well coached these guy's are. No mistakes just solid coverage. Weakness is speed and the safety over the top.

My Take on the FSU VS BYU matchup: IF, IF FSU can get our offensive weapons in space it will be an easy game. Passing game needs to be quick slants, posts, or flooding their zones. These guy's have not seen the speed we have and will be outmaned. Problem is can our offensive line give Ponder time to make the throw? Serious concerns over our OL being able to handle a 30-50 lb advantage over the DL of BYU. I am not sold that we can run on them up the middle. They are really strong in that area. IF, IF we can get our guys outside the end and around the corner it will be easy points on the board.

We should be able to handle their offense with little problem as long as our DB's play controlled and disciplined coverage. I do worry if we run zone coverage and they eat us up on the short routes. No deep threat in sight but they will pick your bones for 8-15 yds at a time. Safeties are imperative and must play well or it could get ugly. Our DL better have some depth and rotate or the earth movers on the BYU side will wear them out quick.

MY PREDICTION: FSU 28 BYU 21

I guess the less black players that are on your team the more discipline your team is.

Whoever wrote that is an idiot. There aren't many blacks on the team because BYU is an ALL MORMON institution. There are very few AfricanAmericans that are Mormons, why I don't know.

You don't have to be Mormon to play for BYU...I think.

Rey is a damn fool. How boring of a Saturday it must have been for him to do that. That is funny stuff though.

Looks like the plan is to try and redshirt Justin Turner and Teric Jones. I highly doubt they get away with it with JT. Kid is too good to keep of the fieldand will need to be called on sometime this year.

yeah you don't have to be Mormon to play for BYU, you have to follow the rules though. There are christians who play for Notre Dame and catholics whoplay for Liberty

there wasnt a need to even go there

but back to football

Ga Tech vs Miami
Cal vs Minnesota
Nebraska vs Va Tech
UGA vs Arkansas
UF vs UT

UF by 28 easy. even Im takin that bet.
Once Crapton makes a bad play, he's done cus he lets it fester and one play becomes 4 huge game changing bad plays. dude turned the ball over 4 possessionsin a row

unreal. I dont expect much outta the offense, but I do expect alot from the defense

wow UGA lost another player to Knee injury.
Roderick Battlestarting DE out for the yr ...
smh.gif

I wouldn't expect too much out of UT's defense I say we put up over 400+ yds easily and Tebow minimum 4 total TDs. It's gonna get OOOOGLY realfast.

the few legit UT media guys are suggesting we play nukeese at QB for the rest of the yr and just chalk this up to getting the best athletes on the field likeKentucky did with Cobb last yr.

IM ALL FOR IT!
its just no point in playing Crompton but CLK and nem knew this from jump, they went into spring and summer camp hoping Stephens would win the QB battle and hecouldnt.
Pete was damn good QB at Pahokee.
Do it like when Hines Ward had to play QB at UGA. I would love that

they have to do something instead of letting crompton fail at life behind the center. Cobb did pretty good last year at qb but now he is strictlywildcat/receiver I guess
