I don't know where the Lakers nick name is coming from but these are the Omega Psi Phi 1s (his fraternity). Some of the apparel released for this sneakeris based around Greek clothing.

Spike isn't a Que. Frats were upset at his portrayal in School Daze. I'm not even sure a frat would ask him to be a honorary one.
It's the School Daze pack.
It's the colors in the poster
The black and gray are the Gamma's colors
and the Puple and Yellow is the color of the release poster

Well since you saw School Daze, it's officially called the School Daze pack. It has nothing to do with Omega Psi Phi.

So what frat is black and grey then?
I could wear a pair of metallic white and red Jordan's, that doesn't mean they were designed with Delta's in mind.
I'm wondering what your point is. Are you someone who can't admit they were wrong? Who doesn't know when to fall back? It's officially theSchool Daze pack and the colors are from the movie poster. Which just happen to be purple and gold.

And exactly what colors do Alpha's have?
The colors are based around School Daze, just like they had one for Do The Right Thing. Of course they tied in other things, and Michael Jordan happens to bea Que, so it fits the theme of college.

Reasons why this release is not as "loved" as those samples:
1 - Straps, you can take the strap off but what about that big leather loop in the back that holds the strap.
2 - Swoosh, there are several recent AJ1 with this carpet swoosh idea and I can safely say none of them have been well received.
3 - Sample, collectors would "be drooling over" rare, unreleased, extra super limited original Air Jordan 1 samples. Duh. Thats what COLLECTORS do,they value rare hard to obtain items. Would you really expect a modified, widely released, brand new, easy to get shoe to be have the same appeal because ithas a similar colorway???? Of course not. Frankly, the colorway was NEVER what made the samples coveted, they could just as easily have been orange andchartreuse. They are collectors items. They happen to match up with a very popular basketball franchise which may have helped their desirability but that isonly a minor aspect. For collectors, its more about rarity really.
4 - Sock liner, the purple really does look bad to me, but thats just me.
5 - Shade, they aren't even the right purple, so even if you did like the samples from the colorway alone, these dont match up.

I'm pretty sure that Spike is an Alpha, which explains why they got a step routine in the movie.
I think that Jordan figured if they were going to honor a fictional fraternity, then they'd better honor Mike's real one.
