Many of you, myself included, probably have no idea why this man deserves a moment of silence or even his own thread for that matter but after some research Ishall enlighten you. Dr. James Robert Cade inventor of Gatorade, a beverage that has brought happiness to many a life, has passed away at the age of 80. I amgoing to pour out a little Mango Electrico this evening in his honor.

From wikipedia:

Dr. James Robert Cade (1927-November 27, 2007) was a professor of medicine and physiology at the University of Florida who invented Gatorade.[sup][1][/sup] While attending the University of Florida he joined the Delta Upsilon Fraternity.

Dr. Cade invented Gatorade and offered rights to the drink to the University of Florida, but the university turned it down.[sup][2][/sup] He then signed a deal with Stokley-Van Camp and began selling it.[sup][2][/sup]

When sales took off the University asked for the patent rights, but Dr. Cade refused. He used some of the funds from his profits on Gatorade to set up scholarships and back local businesses. The University brought suit against him and locked up small businesses that were backed by Dr. Cade. Eventually, an agreement was reached between Dr. Cade and the University.

The story of Cade, along with the rest of the Gatorade inventors, is chronicled in Darren Rovell's "First In Thirst: How Gatorade Turned The Science of Sweat Into A Cultural Phenomenon."

Dr. James Robert Cade died on November 27, 2007 at the age of 80.

This is the time I wish I had a piece of the Gatorade gum in reserve and some fruit punch from the glass bottle.
