What do blind people dream about?

Yo this +$#% has been bugging me for the past week and I've been tripping out about it. I'm talking about people blind since birth by the way.

So if they have been blind since birth they have no idea what anything looks like and their brains create all sorts of crazy +$#% in their head. Also, ifsomeone who was blind for a long time came to be able to see wouldn't they flip out being able to see colors and all the weird stuff we take for granted?

(No I'm not high as I make this, nor when I thought of the question. Scary isn't it?)

I was thinkin the same thing

GREAT question.. I'd also like to know the answer to this..

edit: I just thought of something... my dad says he always dreams in words (like hes reading a book about his dream).. so maybe its something like that ?

From what I understand, they dream in in shades and blobs since they have no clear references. However, people blinded later in life still dream normal, butwill slowly digress to blurrier imaging as they progress in life.

Wow, that is a very good question. Maybe they just dream how they live, with all the senses except for sight? I dunno, I should ask a blind guy

Yes, blind people do have dreams. However, those blind since birth or very early childhood have no visual imagery in their dreams. Instead, they experience a very high percentage of taste, smell, and touch sensations in their dreams.

The breakdown is as follows:

There are no visual images in the dreams of those born without any ability to experience visual imagery in waking life.

Individuals who become blind before the age of five seldom experience visual imagery in their dreams.

Those who become sightless between the ages of five and seven may or may not retain some visual imagery.

Most people who lost their vision after age seven continue to experience at least some visual imagery, although its frequency and clarity often fade with time.

Hope that helps.

That makes sense. I was thinking it would be something along that line.

thats interesting. how does a blind person be able to see again? i know its possible but does it do with surgery?

Wow, that's a crazy thought. I've never even thought about that...

That blurb about them having dreams with a high percentage of touch, smell, taste, etc makes a lot of sense though...

Makes sense. Thanks.

That must be the craziest way to dream.

reminds me of this younger girl who came into my store who was def..i could tell by the way she was talking she was the cutest thing

when one of your senses is lacking, the others make up for it. so like someone before said, they have a much more powerful sense of hearing, taste, etc.

dag at first i thought that question was stupid until
i thought about it
what do they dream about?
