depends on what you're attempting to do.... if you're attempting to hit a shot a certain yardage and the 58 is going to long then you should move to a 60. if you're only using this for green side chip shots, the 58 vs 60 is pretty negligible.

kobetw0 so delicate with his wording... "par for the course" you might say...

Also par for the course that he makes good points though.  I've left my driver in the car during times where I'm slumping with it... I'd love to play my XTD 3w better than i do but its been in my trunk the last 2 rounds as well.  Really gotta be smart on the golf course.  I don't look at anyone differently if they're taking 5i off the tee every hole.

i think it would be more for green side chipping and of course bunker play

just looking for versatility and to your point, it might be negligible.

if it's more around greenside / bunker play. you should look more into the grind / bounce of your wedge

i play a 54 11 and 58 12, but i was thinking of going with a 58 8 or 60 07 to diversify my wedges in different conditions.

i'm sorry but there is so much wrong with this statement it's pretty ridiculous. no offense but if you can't break 100 consistently you aren't hitting any club properly. either that or you're playing off the wrong set of tees.

think about it, if you hit your 6 iron 170 yards. you can basically cover any par 4 in 3 shots. 2 putt and you walk away with a bogey on every damn hole. unless you have a forced carry you should learn to hit GOOD shots with a short club.

case in point, i was playing yesterday with a good friend of mine and the dude couldn't hit a club to save his life. he shanked about 5 drives straight (3 on 1 hole because it had a forced carry). then he thought it would be a good idea to hit a 4 iron off the tee box and off the turf on the next whole which was a par 5. proceeded to shank those as well. i've told the guy numerous times that he's an idiot and when he struggles THAT hard that he should just grab the 8 or 9 iron and hit a few good shots because in golf you need to ACTUALLY VISUALLY SEE a good shot to gain that confidence. sure enough after he did it, he was hitting decent shots again.

seriously, some guys have zero sense of course management. if you're not feeling your game and you have to hit a 4 iron because you're 210 yards away to the green, grab a 56* wedge and hit 2 110 yard shots. not only is there a greater chance you're going to be in less trouble. but you've gained confidence in hitting 2 solid shots AND ITS CONSIDERABLY LESS STRESSFUL

Son. I'm not hitting iron iron iron. That's pointless. I've played golf for two summers. I'm going to continue to practice so I can hit the proper shots.

That's like saying someone who can't shoot but is really good at rebounding has fun recreationally. That's not my style.

I strive to get better at golf, not continue to suck so I just deal with hitting mid irons the whole round. That's not fun at all to me.

Alright lets not get worked up... I'm of the thought that whatever makes my score go down i'm doing.  If my 4i was so pure that i could put it in the fairway 210 every single time I just might think about doing that.

Bottom line though play the way you have the most fun.

I have had many rounds where it is all 3 or 4 iron for me. I don't hit fairway woods often so when driver is left in bag it is long iron for me

It comes down to the courses too! You have to play the elements and the slopes of the courses. Sometimes that 4i IS the right shot off the tee regardless of what you do with your clubs.

Shot a 104 today btw >D

*** my boys swing as of a couple months ago. check out his youtube channel  golfwitkev and feel free to comment his videos and ask questions. he's always happy to help.

As a golfer who started from never picking up a club and working literally HOURS hitting,pitching/chipping, and putting in the middle of 3 Texas summers I have a more of a "common man" viewpoint.

No one put the club in my hand I CHOSE this sport! I worked myself from the 120s all the way now to mid 80s with not one professional lesson.

I say all of that to say this...

There has been MANNNYYYYYY times where I have swallowed my pride and hit shots 1/2, 3/4 or full irons because that was the only thing working that day. For the most part I shot a lower score than I would have pulling driver/3wood on every hole.

No ego golf will change your life.... golf is so mental man :x

first off. im not your son. second, i'm not telling you to play an entire round like that. but when you're struggling, it really isn't the end of the world to play 1 entire hole like that to see some good shots and gain a little confidence. you say you strive to get better at golf and yet you don't really want to take some advice on someone who was like you hitting triple digits... believe me. playing 1 freaking hole with nothing but an iron onto the green isn't going to ruin your round. i literally just came back from playing with my cousin in sd and he was struggling. i handed him an 8 and told him to just hit it a few times and sure enough his round was good for the rest of the day.... you need to chill out and not get all butt hurt on someone that's trying to help you.

exactly. swallow that ego and chill out a few holes and your score will go down asap... i worked from mid 100s down to low 80s doing this. i went from trying to hit the glorious green side flop to learning multiple shots around the green and getting it in the hole faster. all about the "big miss"

I can tell Crazy EBW and a few others are more beginner golfers just by the things they post in here. Nobody is trying to attack you. Check out this website www.thedanplan.com Guy went from never hitting a club in his life to working up to a decent player. Didn't even try hitting a driver for a year if I remember correctly. He started with the shortest clubs and built his confidence from there. Hell that is what I do everytime I warm up before a round or if I am in a slump at the range. And I am sorry but if you are struggling to break 100 you are either taking a bunch of unneeded risks, or not hitting good shots. Start with the basics man.

Nobody's butt hurt son.

I'm not saying I'm opposed to playing that way for a hole or too, but I'm not content with doing that. I DO want to get better but not that way.

If I can't hit driver, iron/wedge on most 4s and 5s there's no reason for me to play golf IMO.

I do undertand that reasoning, I do think the tee box is a mental block for every player at some point, the more you want to KILL the ball the more it goes horribly wrong

My driver was ON POINT last sunday after I slowed down and swung with a better tempo and transition.

You can still hit with power too even though you're not swinging your hardest... I poked one out about 290 dead straight... "missed" the fairway cause I was too long by 3 yds.

Some days though that driver just has to stay in the bag... Hybrid 3-4 off the tee help during those troubled times.

tempers flaring, folks getting heated in the golf thread...

but I do understand the game is very difficult and frustrating...

It's coo. I can't be mad when I'm playing 18 for a third straight day. But if papi want to stay breaking wilts 100 pt game every round that's his game to play. Just let me know how that exhale on the back swing works for you. Or is it an inhale on that backswing?
