The Official Photography Thread - Vol. 3

Quick question, cause I'm a kind of new, sigma is the best when it comes to lenses? That's how it seems. I have nikon and wanted to get a 50mm, so nikkor or sigma?

Also, any Atlanta folks in this thread? Since we're kind of on the subject of meetups, I've been wanting to do a small meetup but the big group thing just doesn't seem like me.

Quick question,

Does the camera model matter more? Or the lens?

I have a t2i.. Getting a Sigma 10-20mm f/4-5.6 EX for all purpose shooting.

What do you guys think?

^^^^^^It's a combination of both. By the end of it, cameras and lenses are all about pairing. I can stick a Canon L-lens on a T2i and it can take great photos but it would take better photos on say a Mark 3. The lens can make your body perform better but the body can also make the lens perform better too, if that makes sense. The most sensible investment though from a beginner standpoint is invest in glass over the body. In the long run when you upgrade the body, you'll have the glass to shoot with it and not vice versa.

SIgmas has only been doing well in the past couple of years....well, imo anyways. What you are asking is really a budget question more so than anything. You can definitely get a Sigma and it would not only perform better than a Nikkor but even cost you less money but if you were to say compare some of Nikkors best glass to Sigma, Nikkor could be better but it would cost you an arm an a leg. That is where Sigma as a 3rd parry lens company really kicks in. for people on a budget.

Check out this vid. I think if any, the bokeh isn't that great but the sharpness is there.

I am in the ATL region and so is Colby (don't know his NT name) and Grizzlyboy. I have been to a few photo meetups from Meetup.com but most of them suck because there are too many people and the range of shooters is horrible. You may have a complete novice shooting and directing the model to make horrible and unflattering images. I have set up small meetups for a shooter or two at most. I say shoot with someone on your level or someone that you can learn from, don't waste your time not learning anything or at least getting dope shots.

Oh okay, yeah thats how I figured the big group meet up would be, kind of a waste of time. I met up once with someone a week ago, turned out well, we just kind of didn't have the same eye for things, feel like you can learn more from someone who you know has better skills kind of like you said.

Colby is one hell of a shooter. He even has really nice looking models too. Everything looks top notch from his stuff.

Don't know much about that Sigma but I have a Tamron 17-50 f/2.8 as my walkaround/all purpose lens.

I agree with this. I have yet to go to a worthwhile meetup in ATL. Colby's models are dope. He has a dope concept for his shoots. That rooftop is clutch.

Need to link up with you ATL folks. L locobaby What's the pulse for the weekend?

i guess it depends on what you are trying to do, both matter but even the cheapest interchangeable lens cameras these days are pretty decent, so spending an awesome lens is a good choice not only for the reason that fong mentioned (lenses outlive the body generally) but high quality glass gets you closer to maxing out the quality of your images whereas spending on the body & skimping on the glass leaves you with much unresolved potential...

Can someone please help me in finding this tripod or something like it? Thanks

700

looks like the benro a38tb video monopod, useful for those places where tripods aren't allowed but not terribly stable (though the legs make it possible to freestand, especially for small cameras) for longer exposures when extended...

This image (not mine) was shot with a 6D and 35mm 1.4 Sigma Art. The 6D is a good full frame camera but you are limiting yourself with the 50mm 1.8. If you invest a little in good glass you should be straight.

yes, thats what im thinking too, definitely im gonna cop those sigma 35mm next month, and take a good photograph, for the holiday :D

btw thanks for the suggestion bro :D
