The Official Photography Thread - Vol. 3

these shots are ill. :smokin

if you don't mind me asking, how did you get the pics super crisp like this? and what did you edit this with? the colors are really nice. for sure the look i'm going for.

These were long exposure shots, so i used an ND Filter and Tripod. When doing long exposure shots, it's important to reduce any type of vibration done to the camera. I set my camera on a timer + leave the mirror locked up. 1st one was shot at f22 ISO 100 (i think) at like 10 secs. The second one was shot at f8 ISO 100 for 20 secs. It's also very important to manually focus your lens during this process (at least to me it is). I electronically zoom into a subject i want sharp and focus until it's right. IDK if this helps but these tidbits were part of my process.

I only used adobe lightroom for the editing + VSCO film presets.

thanks man. another question, what do you mainly edit in Lightroom? exposure, saturation? etc

I downloaded the free trial of Lightroom, but didn't exactly know what to edit or how to get started.

Any help from anyone that uses Lightroom would be appreciated as well.

I adjust according to the image. EX: If its underexposed, i'll increase the exposure.

It's all about playing around with the tools on the right hand side of LR in the Develop module. If i were you, i'd experiment and flick the sliders to their extremes to have a feel of what they do for your images. Practice and watch youtube videos. There are plenty of resourceful videos out there. Some good ones are even by pre-teens doing the tutorials lol.

Well...

some recent shots taken on my iphone.

so i downloaded a slow shutter application on my phone, and realized a tripod was ABSOLUTELY necessary.

my first attempt ever at light trails

just experimented with the settings on the application. there weren't many cars so i just set my shutter at 15 seconds each time a car went up/down the hill.

I love iPhone photography. I would suggest checking out some of the add on lenses on Amazon for different looks.

thanks @bscarrillo427, I wish I had the nerve to rock with one of those peak clips on my backpack straps while riding...I'd probably take way more gratuitous pictures but I'm mad scared it would fail on me...

Nah, I have never owned or used a 6D...I have only owned Sony cameras

a tripod definitely makes it a whole lot easier to do a quality long exposure, sweet photo

^^^^Tokes......what lens did you shoot your bike with?

rokinon (also known under the badges samyang, bower, & opteka I believe) 24mm f1.4, I also tried to use the technique exposing to the right (ettr for the acronym lovers) were the original raw file is over exposed, which is supposed to give the best signal to noise results, it is pretty heavy handily edited, the og for comparison:

As of now i have a Fuji XT-1 with a 14mm 2.8 and a 56mm 1.2. I also have a zeiss 35mm f2 M mount and a zeiss 85mm 1.4 nikon F mount. Since the sony A7 has just gone under $1k I am considering selling me XT-1, 14mm and 56mm. I plan on keeping my 2 zeiss lens' since i use those the most and i can just buy adapters for any camera. If i switched to sony i would maybe just buy the 24-70 f4 to go along with it. Selling everything fuji for sony would almost be an even trade. Any thoughts?

definitely try out the sony cameras before you jump; see if you can rent one or check out the a6000 (its layouts as far as the controls & menu go are very similar to the a7 series) at a local best buy/camera store, you will love the image quality & dynamic range but some people do not like the layout, menu, & the general way the sony cameras work; even though it is very flexible customization it can be frustrating in that it is some ways because it is super easy to inadvertently change settings without trying. the lens selection situation is looking a whole lot better but you still don't have quite the same options (at least if you want native autofocus & lens exif data) as with the canon/nikon/micro 4/3rds, especially as far as inexpensive options...and about the the lenses because it is a full frame camera the lenses while smaller than most dslr full frame lenses, they are still pretty large, especially the quality ones tend to be pretty gargantuan which offsets the advantage(s) of the small body size and can be somewhat awkward shooting with...

Good stuff man! Really like that second one, great job working with the light.

Got my first "full frame" camera, gifted from a colleague. Still waiting on some film to come in...
