The Official Photography Thread - Vol. 3

Just some randoms from sneakercon over the weekend, and showing a friend how to use his 70d (he had never touched a DSLR before, and it was basically an impulse buy for him lol).....

I went and did a lens correction on the pic to get rid of the distortion on the bottom. I think it looks better with the straight lines, but its up to you :D

All shot with my phone. I've noticed that the phone tends to really overexpose and blow out highlights, and I guess I could remedy that by shooting RAW and post-processing; but at that point I might as well pull out the DSLR, right?

HankHill HankHill wow man thank you so much for that. that was such a big help. i had no idea about that function to be honest, especially since it wasn't activated or showing up in my develop module. i really appreciate you sharing that in here!!! and for the record, it definitely looks better with the straight lines lol.

^^^How were you able to shoot that with no water marks on your lens? That was one of the most frustrating things to shoot near a waterfall with a wide angle lens.

Im sure there are water marks all over them, maybe just not as visible as it wasnt sunny ... but you can tell in the photos some parts are light (watermarks)

You shouldn't use light room for skin smoothing. I mean, small things like a pimple or two is cool. But other than that, it does a terrible job at skin smoothing.

I took some pics of a co-worker and when i asked about the skin smoothing she said she wanted it but didn't wanna look to air brushed or fake. She wanted more of a natural look they came out ok in NY eyes she loved them

Idk how to use Photoshop two was the first time opening it I was extremely frustrated

check out youtube videos about frequency separation. one word of advice if you use the lightroom and photoshop is to make sure that you have lightroom send the photos to photoshop as psd files. the reason is that it saves the photoshop file so if you had to go back to it to fix an edit you wont have to start from scratch, just open the psd

Thank you I'm going to check that out now

Was in a rush to leave my house and do some shooting in DUMBO, Wall Street, and a few other places......I left my 50mm on the car and drove off.......Purchased the new 50mm 1.8 STM online......I can't imagine much of an improvement other then build quality. Ive read some reviews about inconsistent AF & image quality. Has anyone picked it up? If so what are your thoughts?

You were gonna drive to wall street? And park where?

Thoughts on upgrading from a 7D to a 6D? My 7D got caught in the rain and it's RIP straight error 40. I originally had Mark 2 but traded it down for a 7D because I needed the cash, but I loved that camera. Was pretty set on going back to a Mark 2 until I started looking at the 6D. Really haven't kept up with the new bodies with how frequent they drop. Of course the Mark 3 is the top dog, but rather just use the 1k difference to cop a 35L.

Just wish the 6D had the same sized body as the Mark 2. Don't really mind about it not using CF cards.

Heard for the most part, there is not a huge difference. Some vids that compare the two:

Leave my car at the ferry, and take the boat to downtown manhattan......or leave it at the park and ride near the verrazano, take the R on 86th street and shoot up to BK Bridge Park from there...then walk across to wall street

If your willing to wait for the time being (thats if you have an extra body)......the 6D Mark 2 should be dropping end of year/beginning of 2016

Nah fam I need a body ASAP as the 7d was my only body. Happened about a week ago and I'm feeling the hurt. No way I can wait 6 months

Just curious about people's experiences with the 6d. Pretty clear it out performs the Mark 2 in most things. Low light capabilities look pretty amazing. Really interested in the body feel/layout vs say a 7d or Mark 2 because the 6d is smaller?

For my flash people out there which method do you find better.
Having remotes to trigger the flash or using your pop up/another flash to trigger them?
