The Official Photography Thread - Vol. 3

Nah fam I need a body ASAP as the 7d was my only body. Happened about a week ago and I'm feeling the hurt. No way I can wait 6 months :frown:  Just curious about people's experiences with the 6d. Pretty clear it out performs the Mark 2 in most things. Low light capabilities look pretty amazing. Really interested in the body feel/layout vs say a 7d or Mark 2 because the 6d is smaller?

Id go for a 6D then.......I don't own one, but I have shot one. In fact I have a gig doing weddings with a friend who will be loaning me her extra body when we do parties/events together. Ill be waiting to purchase one of my own for a bit.......prices on that body have been steadily declining. Ill expect to see huge discount on them once the 6D Mk 2 is announced and given a release date.

Damn bro Seems like you've been shooting for years lol! I've had my for like 6 months and haven't done much. Once I get back from vacation I'm going out more and shot.

Great stuff everyone!

I appreciate the positive feedback.

I've had a great level of interest in photography for YEARS and shot with a mirrorless camera exclusively in auto mode for a while.

Finally took the plunge this past march to cop a DSLR and started shooting full manual for about 3 weeks now

Which mirrorless and which DSLR? Dope shots man.

sup guys. i'm considering purchasing a zoom lens because of the versatility (I'm thinking 18-250mm?). I'm currently using 35mm 1.8 at the moment. Any reviews or suggestions on a good brand/lens to look at?

It seems like most of you guys mainly use prime lens.

Took my DSLR on a 18 miles hike at Grand Teton, does anyone have any advice on products that alleviate having to strain your neck from carrying the camera?

I'm assuming you were carrying a backpack during this hike. I can personally vouch for using this clip on a backpack. They also make a non-Pro version that is slightly cheaper. I went with the pro version because I use it while riding my motorcycle and I wanted it to be as secure as possible. Probably not the best option if you frequently use big, heavy lenses bu t it could work. I have a D3200 and I've used it with a pretty hefty 8mm fisheye while going highway speeds on my motorcycle. My gear always felt safe and secure.

Peak Design has a clip that goes on a backpack strap or belt that's been really successful on kickstarter. https://peakdesign.com/ I have a mirrorless, so I haven't tried it myself, but it looks like it could be what you're looking for.

EDIT: benzilla427 benzilla427 beat me to it

Thanks guys. Looks like it'll solve my switching between lens during hikes issue as well. Going to look into getting one.

Get a quality mirrorless and thank yourself later. Last summer I was a TA for my school's geology field camp and we spent 6 weeks in our own tents in the mountains of Utah, Colorado, and Montana (including the famous Arches National Park in Moab Utah). Almost everyday we hiked and climbed no less than 15 miles per day with some days over 20 miles. I had my a6000 on a strap everywhere I went. There's no way possible I would have done that with a huge DSLR. Even without a case and climbing up to 8000 feet in a hot environment my camera came back with no major damage and no malfunctions whatsoever. It being low-profile in size had a lot to do with that.

The best camera is the one you can have with you almost all of the time. But hey...what do I know?
