The Official Photography Thread - Vol. 3

Damn that's early lol. I would have to leave at 5am to get some good shots lol. Speaking of the bridge I saw this one pic on Flickr of someone who was right under the bridge on the Marin side. They did a long exposure and it was really nice but I thought how the heck did they get there unless they had a boat or something. I'll try and find the pic

oh...this shot was from last night at 6:45!!!! my bad...hahaha...your boy ain't tryin to be up that early unless there was somethin else up that hill!!!

^^^^I used to follow a guy that had shots like that. He did all those steel wool shots there. Had someone standing on a rock while underneath it. It just looked monstrous. I know how to get to the lower side of the SF side of the bridge but maybe it's me, it just doesn't have the same effect. I think I might take a trip down there tomorrow if I have the time.

i'd be down to drive anytime to hit up some spots like that...NT photo Meet Up??

I went to Sonoma Raceway yesterday to drag race my E30, check out the full post on my site: http://www.isohigh.com/blog/2015/10/15/wednesday-night-drags

Yeah...Fort Point area. I know there is that opening on the side but I always bug out going that way since security is always there. So I always go the other route which takes way longer but I don't mind it at times.

Seen someone do that but that looks mad scary lol. Would get some dope shots though.

Nice! Did you happen to see the new NSX while you were there? I know there was a blue and black one there yesterday and probably will be there this weekend also since Chris Harris will be driving it.

You don't have to pay for models and you don't need a studio or lighting equipment. Some of my best work came from finding local talent or on Model Mayhem and shooting on-location with a simple reflector. The thing that I think photographers forget is the purpose of getting a great shot no matter what you use. The biggest thing is to understand your camera/ settings and really understanding light. A strobe with a huge modifier will give you the same light that a overcast day will give you for free. And then you involve a model which means you have to know how to pose a model. What angles to shoot. What light is flattering. And how to get the expression you are imaging in your mind on to the model's face. Don't get caught up on the extra stuff until you're 100% comfortable shooting people. Dani Diamond is a prime example of someone who often uses natural light, a camera, and a model to get awesome results. No studio or external light source.

It's not about necessity in that sight. there are some photos that I want to take that will require flash (like using different colored gel covers for the flash). I'm not a pro but i understand very well how to operate my camera and utilize natural lights and even using standard home or office lighting.

Regarding models, I should have stated willing to pay for them. I just need a consistent stream of subjects outside of my normal circle of family and friends

shot a underground hip hop show friday night in sf. so scared to see how they turned out. used 3200 film and still had to use 30 shutter speed. at first i was using 60, but i was getting better readings with 30. they had black paint on some of the venue and a black sheet hung up so it wasnt just darker. there was a moving light in that area, but being there was a black sheet it didnt help. so nervous. especially being my first time shooting a concert and shooting 3200 film in general.

Yeah, I get what you're saying. Fstoppers just put up a blog post about the same topic. https://fstoppers.com/business/having-studio-really-worth-it-92560 . I like the thought of having a studio but I don't think one would benefit me much since I travel so often.

Can anyone help me with something. Ok I'm trying to learn how to smooth/retouch skin in PS but I find that most tutorials I watch on YouTube doesn't always match the same version of PS that I have. I usually follow along but then have to stop due to different versions.
I have PS CC 2014 version. There's tons of different ways to do it I've seen but is there a simple way of doing it when editing a good bit of images.

Currently I use LR for pretty much everything but I feel it's only so much I can do as far as retouching skin.

Been lurking this thread a while now a lot of awesome shots posted. Hoping I can finally start contributing.

I also want to give @Fongstarr  a huge shoutout for plugging my name and shots in this thread a couple of times, means a lot.

As far as the shots I'm aiming to share on here is to deviate from my regular ig posts. That being said here are my past two ig posts for now;

Any feedback and criticism is welcomed!

my ig is @ jordvnxsf

one of the dopest photographers i follow on IG. noticed you really didn't post here.

give this dude a follow

And I swear jordvnxsf said he has only been shooting for a year. I hate you dude. Haha.

I swear all my stuff feels like repeats. I shot this about 3 hours ago. Even did other angles and what not there and only this one seemed the best. I need some serious deviation from doing what I always normally do. I guess there is always next week.

Open House Chicago 2015.

2 days of running around the cold city, but mannn it was worth it. Probably the most fun I've had on a photo shoot since I started getting into photography. This will definitely be a yearly event for me. 70+ photos from the weekend on my flickr page if you guys are interested.
