The Official Photography Thread - Vol. 3

usually dust spots don't affect image quality (could be more problematic at smaller apertures sometimes, f8-11 and up), but that can depend on the size and location of the spots. fungus can definitely get worse, it can be Cleaned, Lubed, Adjusted (or CLA'd) but i think the cost can vary wildly depending on the lens and the person doing the service...unless you getting it for an outrageous low it prolly isn't going to be worth the hassle

speaking of macro i recently tried to do get a some macros of snowflakes, tried to do it handheld, super difficult, definitely need a tripod for this sort of thing...

Dope set up. Love those shots man. Insane!! :pimp: :pimp:

Love that rig up there tokes99 tokes99 . Is that a 50 reversed?

yup, worked better than expected, it was legit exciting to see these structures come into (albeit partial) focus...when i could hold still enough! definitely plan to try this again with a tripod...

JEEEEEEEEEEEEEZ man this looks like a microscope image. Almost feel like I should pay you just for being able to get this shot

Great stuff everyone! I'm currently in Japan until this coming Tuesday. My goodness, it's so amazing out here and I have so many photos to share with you. Here's one for now.

Who's going out to shoot tomorrow this blizzard? Gonna try to hit up the city depending on how the trains are running.

getting cabin fever with this blizzard...

The snow would make for some great shoe photos. Nice job!

Some before/afters. Think I'm going to post before/afters all the time now to see how I progress.

The radial filter really came in handy for this one. Without it the blue from the sky would've been way more apparent than it is now.

Before editing I thought this pic was a throw away image but after spending some time on it I kinda like it.

Didn't do much to this one since it was almost the same out of the camera.

I haven't used the DSLR in a while.

Decided to bring it along while taking care of my godson this afternoon

Going on vacation soon, mostly interested in shooting street photography with some landscape and a little bit of portrait work, using my A6000.

Plan on using one adapter and using my Canon FDn legacy lenses due to weight: 24mm f/2.8 (36mm equivalent), 35mm f/2.8 (52.5mm equivalent), and 50mm f/1.4 (75mm equivalent). Thoughts?

I was trying to learn how to get shots like that, with the blurred background and was looking into getting this lens.

I was given a Nikon D3100 and I only have the basic 18-55mm lens and from what I've read, it'd be pretty difficult to get that effect. Do you guys think getting this lens will be worth it? Any online places you'd recommend?

it will definitely be easier with that 50mm f1.8, but not impossible with the lens you currently have (under certain circumstances)...whether its worth it, kinda depends on how much you think you will use it? you could try photography specific joints like adorama or bhpoto, but amazon typically has the cheapest options...or if you don't mind used your local craigslist (and dealing with all that entails) might be worth checking out?

Definitely worth it!

I was actually shooting with the Nikon 35mm f/1.8 for those, but a 50mm would be even better for producing the blurred background you want. However, since you've only been shooting with the 18-55 kit lens I'd suggest you play around with it before you make a purchase. One day just try shooting only at 35mm and then the next day shoot at only 50mm. Then, you can decide to get either the 35mm or 50mm depending on which focal length you found more suitable for what you shoot. I personally found the 35 more to be more versatile, especially on a crop-sensor body like your D3100. Another thing to take into consideration is whether or not you want to upgrade your camera in the future. If you plan on going full-frame then I'd definitely suggest going for the 50.

I don't think you'll get much leeway in terms of price if you're looking to buy a new lens. I've never bought used but I'm sure someone in here can give you tips on that if that's what you wanna do.
I've always bought camera stuff from B&H and I haven't had any issues.
