The Official Photography Thread - Vol. 3

yes i believe in having "the eye"

some people just have it, some people dont. even people who know the ins and outs of cameras and lens, might not have a good of an eye for a great shot compared to others.

Some people really don't understand composing a shot or what looks good lol.

I was sight seeing with my girl at the time and took a photo of her by a graffiti wall; close-in and waist up. Told her to snap one of me that looks like hers. As soon as the camera was in her hands I see her rotating the lens smh. Saw the pic and she tried getting the whole building in the pic. Like how does that remotely look like what I snapped of you? lmao

Hell yeah. I've been getting way better at this lol. I try harder to compose. when I started I knew I got some good moments, but lot of times the composition sucked. It's not easy lol, but I'm getting there I think lol

i was considering him for my wedding but man he was pricey. not gonna lie, i love his style and editing. if i could afford him i would've copped him for my wedding haha. he is one of the few wedding photographers that dont matte the heck out of the photos and i still like it.

Damn these guys are really good. I thought a lot of their shots would be underexposed with the sun behind the subjects but they're able to get the perfect amount of light. Was looking at the Malibu vineyard estate shots and whewwwww.

Solid line up. 50mm 1.8G is a fantastic lens and the value is amazing.

When I shot Nikon, I used that lens a lot.

Invested in one of these. Heading back home to Cali next month for a little vacay so I decided now would be a good time to get something nice to capture moments with. Shoutout to fongstarr for answering a few of my questions.

specific to this particular camera, i think the best think you can do is go through the manual to familiarize yourself with the camera and the menu settings so you can figure out how to customize the camera to limit your use of the rather deep menu system...you also might want to check out some older cheap lenses (cheap mostly due to their age, not quality) that can be used via adapters, one of the benefits of mirrorless cameras this flexibility...

good luck!

Anyone know how to stretch landscapes and post them on ig like this?

I tried it but it doesn't seem to come out like others that I've seen.

Trying to post this but in portrait mode.

Can't you just rotate your image in camera and then post it to instagram?

So what I did was rotate it to portrait in LR and then save it to my phone but it doesn't seem to use up the amount of space that other users are getting. I'm trying to find the height and width dimensions for ig and see if that will work.

So Instagram is giving an error due to size or it's not converting to portrait orientation when submit it?

What size are you exporting from LR?

It's not giving me an error it just isn't taking up the entire landscape orientation. Idk if that makes sense it's kinda hard to explain. After a few trial runs I found out that I have to pinch it in entirely down to have it take up as much space as I want it to. Not sure if that makes sense but once I post the pic I'll clarify on here.

Not sure if we're talking about the same thing, but if you have a portrait oriented photo you can post things outside of the 1:1 constraint by pressing the button circled onthe crop screen.

That'll "stretch" the photo. The landscape posting is still better than portrait though.

Here's the original picture:

Some is still cropped out, but you're not limited to the 1:1 aspect ratio anymore.

^Yea I know about that. So basically my deal was the picture I wanted to post in portrait mode had some parts that were still getting cropped out. If you look at the last two pics on my ig on the app you can see the difference. The laferrari has more shown in it vs the honda one since the honda one is a square crop that doesn't take up much of the space. idk if that makes any sense but basically I figured out what I wanted to do lol.
