What Happened to Nike SB ???

The Bruins/Harbors/Janoskis are really clean;even the P-Rod 2.5 looks decent. The DUNK is what's trash...not a single good release since early 2006.

Supreme highs are just hype. There is absolutely nothing attractive about them, in my opinion, except for the price they can be sold at. My personal favoriteare the shanghai 1's

Nike sb did not fall off and probably won't for a while
they used to the "sneaker culture" to get a buzz and/or recognition to gain popularity within the skate world
Nike wasn't always respected in the skate world
so by making exclusivity key suckering some of us into buying product for a few years and now those same people might say Nike sb fell off

so now there focus is towards the skate culture rather the sneaker culture

like really when was the last big exclusive release everything has been gr for the most part

the only thing that changed is production numbers and availability, if those ramen joints were limited to 300 pairs you guys would kill each other to get apair lol

I wonder if the Nike SB brand has any plans at all to retro some of the original colorways.

yeah because they're rare. Like i said in the beginning, an exclusive shoe is highly sought after because of its rarity. The rarity increases its valueweather its ugly or not. And value doesn't have to mean resale value. But regardless they are pushing out more shoes than ever.

Collabos and special inspiration based sneakers is all Nike SB needs

They need to use PREMIUM materials.

I'll buy the stefan jonaski series tho

Never liked SBs to begin with(outside of the Homer CW) and don't understand the hype for them either.

The hype only lasted like maybe 2-3 years and everyone went back to Jordans in my area.

you can never make everyone happy... nike sb has some gems in it still but it also has crap like any other shoe line.. it is what it is.. but nike sb is farfrom dead.. they are suppose to be cutting back on how many shops get QS this year.. they wanna put the hunt and trill back in the game

I still want these

Nike SB would be nothing without sneakerheads, resellers, and hbs. We are what made it popular. I skate, but when it comes to SBs (dunks), sneakerheads are responsible for the popularity. Yes while some have highlighted they like certain cws, that doesnt mean everyone agrees with you. Just because you think something is "good" looking doesnt mean everyone does. Most of 02-05 cws were liked by MOST SB heads, this cant be denied. And to whoever said "rarity is what sells them and no matter if it looks good or ugly" thats not true because who would pay a lot of money for an ugly shoe? Not many. Yes while, rarity leads to them to them being highly sought after, the shoe stilll has to be liked to have someone willing to pay that much for them.

Also my friend said it best to my question, "why did SB change in 06?"
"With cws, they wanted to switch things up and with quality it was about $$$$"
I actually have to agree because it seems to me that they thought that we were like the average JB consumer and couldnt tell the difference and when we were being manipulated, so they lowered the quality in the hope that we wouldnt notice and so they could lower production costs while selling for the same price, thus make more money.

In regards to cws, SB needs to do collabs to get fresh minds coming up with "popular" (good) cws that appeal to a majority of us, because even the main designer for 04/05, Liam Sean Martin, had some flops, hence why he isnt designing anymore. AND can you guys stop proposing retros, that would be the worst thing for the SB game. For all you kids who want the classics, get a job, earn some money and go buy them. Yes they are expensive, but too bad. SB needs to wow us with creativity not former successful models, that is the easy way out and not only that, but retros would be a slap in the face to a lot of sneakerheads, it would kill the legacy of all those cws. I feel SB is better than JB because they dont need to retro for success as JB does.

We sneakerheads know better than that and since we are the main market of dunks, I'm proposing a boycott on the dunk until they increase the quality AND give us cws that we generally all like, just like before. This will make it so Nike SB feels pressured to keep quality at the same level and if they attempt to lower it, we can threaten with another boycott of dunks and they will have to listen if they want any more money. This will take the power out of their hands and into ours. With this leverage we run little risk of 06 happening ever again. I already proposed this idea on NSB.org (yesterday) so we'll see, BUT I honestly think this can work if everyone is on the same page.

what does this mean? why didnt you comment on my post? Dont you think we can have that power?
By us continuing to give shops money for dunks, they continue to order from Nike SB, so if we boycott shops sont order dunks anymore and SB will be forced to change.

Thou Ninja & I SELDOM agree....

He hit the nail on the head with this comment. Only SBs that get love right now are previous un-released samples like the Gucci/Resn, neon J-Packs & Loons. Everything else sits like nobody's business. Just go ahead & start retro-ing SBs already. IT NEEDS TO HAPPEN.

But the only negative will be when shops go back to charging ridiculous prices. You think Supa's, Bisons, Flashs, Bucks, Wheats, Broncos, Jedis, Nightshades, Futuras etc....will go for retail?
Expect these shops to charge close to 2 Bills each. They would milk this to no end.

But it will at least make NIKE SB relevent again.

SB DOESNT need retros, it just need new ideas, collabs, designers, themes....boycotting the dunk until they raise quality to 05 standards and cws will ensure they do this. Nike SB wants our money, so if we boycott they will respond.

NO....

Boycotting will make NIKE SB say....It's a wrap.

This goes beyond new colorways or designers or whatever. It's called "bastardization" if that's even a word.

Five years ago....The Nike Air Force one & the Nike Dunk (2 classics) were hot sellers for NIke. Cats braved elements, lined up overnight & made fools out themselves just to cop certain releases...alot of it limited stuff just like SB Dunks used to be. Nike got wind of this obsession & what did they do? They came out with the Year of the Air Force One followed by the Year of the Dunk releasing a never ending supply of wack @#$% Air Forces & Dunks so they could capitalize off the hype & make that $$$.

The end result.....hordes of unwanted Air Forces & Dunks being shipped to outlet spots & now in 2011....nobody gives a rats %#% about either shoe.
30t6p3b.gif

Same thing happened to NIKE SB.....I keep referring to the Dunk because thou I copped other models back in the day (FCs, Team Editions, URLs)...the Dunk was NIKE SBs cash cow.
Greed made them go from release one pair per month with shops getting anywhere from 20 - 30 pairs total (depending on how much clout the shop had) to how it is now.
Multiple Dunks dropping every month (Lows, Hi's, Mids) in a much wider release number. And once again.......the end result is the same. If an un-released colorway from the past isn't dropped, Nobody gives a rats @#$% about Nike SB.

New designers & colorways don't mean jack when the public has lost interest in the product because it's NO LONGER COOL TO BUY.
Why boycott anything? Cause nobody's buying it anyways.
laugh.gif
Nike SB would just close shop like so many skateboard shops & boutiques are being forced to do.

THE ONLY WAY TO SAVE ITSELF IS TO RETRO SBs STARTING WITH THE OLDER RELEASES. AND COLABORATE WITH SUPREME ON ANOTHER DUNK PROJECT.
Get the cool factor back into the brand. Re-create the hysteria. Make cats start complaining about missing out on releases again....being forced to line up for some Mulders, Lodens & Takashi's.

Okay thanks man for responding, but here's the thing, when they got rid of fat tongues and people complained they brought them back. So they must care about SB remaining enough to do that right?

The reason that SBs fell off is simple: whack cws and lower quality along with shops anticipating more people to buy than actually were into the shoes, meaning they ordered too many pairs. It's not Nike SB that causes too many pairs to be out there, it's the shops since they are the ones who order the pairs. The reason there is no hype is because almost every dunk is either whack or even when it is decent it is over ordered by shops, not to mention in both cases quality is crap.

So what I'm saying is with this boycott, if we boycott, shops wont order anymore and SB will wonder why, hopefully they will realize that we want 05 quality and great cws like back then (not retros, not inspired cws, just cws that look good and are original in color and idea, stuff thats never been done before). If it works, then we'll realize that we have leverage over what Nike SB does and thus if they try anything on us again then we can pressure them with another boycott on dunks and they will have no choice but to go back. Why dont you have any confidence in this, all you guys have to do is not buy dunks....not that hard, the difficult part about this is getting everyone to follow along, because if we all participate then things will be back to the way they were and we'll be happy, SBs will be popular, sought after, and things will be great. People need incentive to act, and what better incentive than the possibility of SB being how it was 02-05? Who wouldnt want that? We need to keep Nike SB in check and make them realize we are not like the average JB consumer, one that can be manipulated. We are better than that, and the reason I have so much confidence in this boycott is because unlike JB, SBs main consumer is us SNEAKERHEADS.

I do agree that Supreme should do another collab, totally different from the first two dunks, and this will relaunch the dunk.

Homie, take it from someone that bought OLDER SBs & was tight with THESE SHOP OWNERS........
Nike SB gave you what they wanted you to have depending on how long your shop was open & the clout you had with them. Pitcrew was one of the first Skateboard shops in this region & EVERY SB drop back in the day Tim (the owner) used to complain to me about the 20 - 25 pairs TOTAL his shop used to receive. Greg from Elite used to fuss about the same thing & he didn't even get that many pairs sometime. You were allocated your run by Nike SB. That kept @#$% limited. But now the shops can indeed order an abundance of pairs & that didn't start till the Volcano Hawaii's which were a Black/Purple box.

Think for a second....you actually believe if these shops could order what they want, they would of ordered only 30 pairs of Tiffany?!
roll.gif

Now, the stuff because it is overproduced to begin with, I assume (feel free to correct me), so shops have a lot more pairs to order from the total supply, and I think a lot of average skate shops who dont "know" about the hype and sneakerheads and still think the people who buy dunks only skate them, overestimate the market (order too many pairs so when the people that wanted pairs bought them, the shops still has pairs sitting and it reduced to putting them on sale). So this is a problem and shops who "know" are at a serious advantage from not going too deep into debt. Now when the cws are whack and not that many people buy them, every shop would suffer somewhat. This is why educating shops about the true consumer of SBs is important to keeping them in business, but more importantly to keeping a demand for the shoes when they are limited they are sought after.

Do you see what I'm saying?
Regardless of this, if we got enough people to follow, do you think the boycott would be successful?

There's no need to boycott. Let the high school beasts who think they're doing it continue to cop the newer SBs.
As legit collectors, we know nsb is dead. But notice the people copping SBs nowadays are newboyz jerking fools at high schools and middle schools.

Dude, let the people who are happy with current SB releases continue buying what they want. I just know that as I got older I had to transition away from
the bright colors that NSB is synonymous with. Besides, I find it funny when I see juveniles wearing SBs thinking they're doing it,

and then they see others wearing some real heat (ie. Jordans and Lebrons).
