Good site for those in smaller units.  Still trynna look for a small living room/coffee table.  Been thinking about either a rectangularish rustic/aged/ash wood color feel or a circular one which doesn't provide as much functionality.  Might venture into some DIY seeing as nothing really does it for me.

Do any of you have any personal experiences with selling furniture on Craig's list and the like? Looking to move next year but I'm tired of my living room furniture. Was on a tight budget when I first moved out, got some quality stuff though, but want more modern style stuff.

Want to sell my couch, tv stand, coffee/end tables. Everything is in great condition, no damage. Couch cusions/pillows are a little broken in but no cosmetic damage at all.

When I moved out of my place in Florida I had a lot of furniture I didn't want anymore, gave some away to my buddies, but I had good experiences selling the rest on Craigslist. Just make sure you take good pictures and accurately describe the condition/any imperfections and you should be ok.

One thing I'd recommend is to sell to whoever can get to your place with the cash first, like if you've ever sold shoes. Don't hold onto to something for someone, because more often than not they flake out.

I prefer the renting lifestyle for now. If anything, I'd buy a condo... Just way more flexibility with renting and a lot less on maintenance... I'm a sucker for dat downtown skyview lifestyle lol. (I'll grow up eventually) Also: I'm rocking with a Full size bed, but I'm thinking of getting a Queen... I currently have way more space in my bedroom than I need.. Def need to fill it out.
 
Got 15k saved up. looking to rent a room or an apartment for the first time in the nyc area more specific astoria/ditmars area..... Any suggestions ???? appreciated in advance

Yes you are correct, by my view their question are meaningless if they do not even have the savings to even purchase a co-op, condo, or a house.

My thinking suggests that if you don't have the savings to purchase a home, then don't compare monthly rent vs. monthly mortgage. Everyone should be saving for something (retirement, emergency funds, etc.) If you are not, then good luck living paycheck to paycheck. What real world scenario should i be giving you? People work, they get paid. They use their paycheck to pay their mortgage or rent and other expenses. If you have too much expenses then you can't save any money. That's a real world scenario.

Once you have the savings amount that a bank will consider lending you a mortgage then you can start comparing monthly rent vs. monthly mortgage. I know people and families that have the savings and still prefer to rent. So everyone's situation is different.

Is it easy to pay rent and save for a down payment? No it's not easy, but there are options and it's possible. First take a long look at your lifestyle and see where your monthly expenses add up and see where you can cut costs. By living below your means, you can save money. It's not easy, but it takes discipline.

To add, people "rent" cars all the time and a lot of people prefer it over purchasing a car. It's called a car lease. It is similar in principle to home renters. They have a certain amount of years for car/home and at the end of the lease they need to find another car/home or basically re-new the lease.
 
You make good points, but all I was trying to do is suggest more comprehendible scenarios.  You just said it yourself up there. "for those that are renting."  Is that an indication already in itself?  That even further validates my point, because people who are renting, want to purchase!!!!  So that logic trumps the ordeal that one has to save up before deciding to rent or buy.  Obviously those that are renting and want to buy must find it a bit harder to save for a down payment.  That's my point.  And that point is legit and real.

And yes, I do believe that people live pay check to pay check, have credit card debt, and all that 'real' life challenges.  All this 'fundamental' talk and 'text book' talk is meaningless to me, but I get that point.  MATH never lies, the answer is there.  More so, GOOGLE your answer.  Plenty of software, apps, etc. out there to evaluate your financial snapshot.  And if that is not enough, then try apply for the loan and have the BANK confirm for you in terms of whether you can proceed further in your purchase or not!  You won't be getting that letter of commitment if you don't qualify!!!!

Some people who rent don't want to purchase a home because they are comfortable renting, even though they are in a financial position to be able to purchase. Again, everyone's situation is different.

If there are those that really can't save any money while renting then they need to re-examine their finances and set their priorities and financial goals. A suggestion would be finding a cheaper place to rent. A great example brought up recently is renting a studio vs. a 1 br. I am sure the monthly rent is cheaper for the studio, so for those thinking to purchase in the future there are sacrifices to be made if you are trying to save money.

Can you move the tv and table to another part of the room and get a corner desk for the computer?
 
Do yall wear shoes in yr pad? I prefer no but being roommates with non asian s that preference is out the door.. carpet better in colder states? Hardwood is always thr best option but I hear people say its not great in da winter
 
I never understood people that don't take their shoes off.

A lot of nice furnishings, title is misleading. Bachelor pads, half the dudes in here are double income and got a heavy influence from their partner in their design. Looks beautiful though.
 
It should be understood to take your shoes off when you enter someone's home. Only exception is when there are a lot of people there.

Also I have manufactured wood in my place and it doesn't get cold at all my parent's place has real hardwood and that doesn't get cold either the only floors that are really cold are tile floors
 
Does anyone have their TV on the side of their bed? I want to rearrange my bedroom but right now I have the TV at the foot of my bed on the opposite wall, and I want to put my bed there. That's the only place where there's a cable outlet in the room though.
