NY POST

Those curves are making cardiologists smile.

A new study out of Oxford University in England found women with "pear-shaped" figures -- ample extra padding around the hips, buttocks and thighs -- are actually at a lower risk for heart and metabolic diseases.

"It is shape that matters and where the fat gathers," said Oxford's Dr. Konstantinos Manolopoulos, explaining that fat stored on the hips and in the rear absorb harmful fatty acids and further prevent arteries from clogging.

"Fat around the hips and thighs is good for you, but around the tummy is bad," he told BBC News, noting that the proverbial "spare tire" around the belly leads to higher incidences of heart disease.

they forgot to mention that pear shaped people are also more prone to acquiring diabetes

Find me an overall more obese group of women than them and I will shut up

Noya, can you provide that or will you just keep telling me I am wrong?

You're spelling my name wrong to be malicious. I know it. image
You're saying black women are the most obese women in the world. I think you should be the one providing facts here.

Nice subtle attack on black women. That was almost smooth.

Interesting how you had to qualify your statement with a fake "LOL" and telling us you're black (as if it matters).

Not understanding the issue with my "attack."

They are easily the #1 target audience in this study. Why are you being sensitive again as if I said something wrong?

What did I say that was wrong? You don't think some overweight black women will see this and use it as justification for NOT improving their health?

Get out of your feelings man

Not to play the conspiracy card, but I think that is the main intention of this "study."

First off, How are black women EASILY the target of this study? They're the only type of women with pear shapes? Since when?

You say some black women will see this and use it as justification for NOT improving their health. Because black women are the
only ones right? They are the only race of women overweight. My thing is, there's plenty of women from ALL races who are
overweight and are just as likely to use this "study" as a means of justifying their poor diets and so on. Why single out black women?

Is it characters such as Mo'Nique that made you specifically say black women? I'm actually curious.

I live in NY too so you must be referring to someone else.

Studies show that Black women make up the largest group of obese people. That all I said.

Some of you are letting your personal beefs with that other dude sway your acknowledgement of facts.

Why not say certain "women". Or "obese/overweight" women? Why must black women be your target?
But to top it off with morbid generalizations?
To say that black women are the most overweight in the WORLD...I'm sorry that just doesn't hold any sort of water.

37% of African-American women are obese; 33% of Mexican-American Women are obese; 24% of Caucasian women are obese

No, but its a pretty accurate barometer

There are about 300million people in the US give or take, and about 5.6 or 5.7 BILLION people in the rest of the world, and this is a good barometer. What are you thinking?

Indeed, and in light of that, there are certainly more white women in america than black women. MANY more. So though the percentages are skewed in favor of african american women being the most obese, the greater number of women in the country that are, are most likely white women. But before you jump down my throat, nh, about that. Let me look it up for you. smile.gif

Chuuuch. I feel yall though, a lot of black women in this country probably dont need to hear this. I think the tone in which whoever originally made the statement could have been better but its NT so I guess he doesnt give a damn. Lets just not let statistics mess us up. Anything can be skewed one way or another. This very article about pear shaped women may have been skewed one way.

I'll give you that. It was a tad harsh. I kinda felt where dude was coming from though. I'm just so tired of hearing black women shouting "big is beautiful" and seeing "big girls do it better" on their facebook pages. Big girls get diabetes.

it's healthier if you store fat around your hips and $#%, as most women do, than if you store ir primarily in your gut.

this doesn't mean being fat is healthy

So do skinny girls, skinny black girls, skinny white girls, big guys, skinny guys, big black guys, big white guys, skinny black guys, and skinny white guys. Ohh and everything else in-between.

There, I think I covered the spectrum.

Exactly.

Considering many of you have already taken the liberty of bringing "race" into the discussion, be very much aware of the fact that in this country, all things having to do with the "white" race is what will be deemed the standard, and/or epitome, overtly or covertly. This generally includes the "perfect" female body--which will then correspondingly go on to define what the healthiest female body looks like.

From a global point of view, this is all very subjective--as what Americans consider healthy is not absolute in the global arena--and from a local point of view, this is all very objective.
