NT: Sportsbook Thread

I know I just said I don't bet on basketball, but I was feeling lucky and took Dallas -5.5 and Lakers -2.

(I make really small bets too, so don't think I'm making out like a bandit)

For all you beginning gamblers never let a win get to your head...I know its cliche but Vegas wasn't built on winners.

I've won a lot of money and lost a lot of money and have just now figured this out.

With that being said parlays/teasers are for suckers.  If you can stay disciplined and have a system that is the best way to win money long term, but it's easier said than done.  Baseball is the only sport where the bettor has the advantage but I would advise NEVER betting on a team that is greater than a -150 to -160 favorite because baseball is all about finding the underdogs and run totals

Man, all the so called "experts" and betting sites are gonna try and tell you, "you're only as good as your last big bet" yada yada yada and stuff like that... but if you treat this like stocks or any investment in general, do your homework, bet with your head and not your heart and manage money the right way, you can bring home anywhere between an extra $50 or $500 a month, depending on your bankroll.
I'm not one to toot my own horn because I did have a TERRRRRRIBLE bowl season, but my intial bankroll was $20 in mid-October. Said I was gonna give it one last whirl, and if I lost that, I'd quit until I got out of school and had a salaried nice job.

Needless to say, I've never had to re-deposit, and I've averaged close to $500 a month since then. And that's making small bets. The only time I bet in the $xxx.xx is on Alabama in the NC and New Orleans last night.

But let's keep this up.

I went 5/6 tonight with:

nova-4.5 and over 150
kansas-1 and under 152
lakers-3

i had dallas+gs under 217 but I was wrong.

I find NCAA basketball to be the easiest betting, especially when betting underdogs with a spead. Betting the money line is harder. In the NBA its the opposite, money line is somewhat simple, but spreads and totals are always difficult.

I can't wait to try my hand at some MLB action this year.

I use bettingexpress.com, I like the site and they usually have good lines with Fridays always half-juice.

I also reccomend vegasinsider.com, they have write-ups daily on some statistical analysis for the games that day. Also can view all the matchups for the day with ATS records and previous matchups.

doyung. That's great advice for the novice. I know when I first started, I didn't have a system and the more money I won, the more I bet leading to inconsistency and less money. Football is super fun to bet, but I make most my money on baseball. Over the long haul you have a chance to rake in some good dough if you do it right and stay patient.

I took $20 to $1000 last season on Sports.com thanks in part to a very carefully thought out, 8 team parlay with one push, so I got paid for 7 (the week the Bengals/Eagles ended in a tie.) It came down to the monday night game that week where Phil Dawson hit a 60 yard GW FG with no time to win.

Lost it all back.

But I was kinda reckless with it since it wasnt really 'my' money.

Parlays are not for suckers ALL THE TIME.

There are times when it's very easy to pick the spread and the O/U... Matter of fact, and I really have no way to prove it so say what you want, but I went something stupid like 11-0 or 12-1 in like a 3-4 week span this year around the mid-season mark on parlaying the winner and the o/u of Monday Night Football, Thursday Night Football, and Sunday night Football.

Also, if you're not relying on this money to feed your kids, there's really nothing wrong with laying down a $1 11 or 12 game parlay on tues/weds/thurs/sat nights on CBB. It'll cost you 4 dollars the entire week and the payout is 1800 to 1. Next time you're at McDonald's, think about that.

But in general, don't rely on the parlay. It's there for a reason.

Some good bets tonight might be

Jazz -5, unless you got in any bets last night, when it was -4.5. The Cavs -16 is a tough one to decide. Any one think thats to high?

Over 189 Cavs v. Nets
Over 189 Cats v. Wiz
under 202.5 Jazz v. Clippers
under 205.5 philly v. minnesota.

Went 4-3 Yesterday but just about Even on the units.

I'll post later today about today's games.

Not sure about the NBA yet, I migh play a little parlay or something.

As far as betting goes, I don't play much at all every game. Just a little of what I have on the side as a college student.

Thanks for the info, but i guess it's too late for that now lol. I knew that earlier but I'd figured the total was a little too low and hopefully, Air Force will score a bit as will Colorado state since both seemed to be a little higher in their recent games.

It was a small play though, but we'll see how it turns out. Thanks for the info, that's what this thread is for.

As for anyone playing on the rockets +5 in miami, Ariza and Lowry are out so plan accordingly.

Buying Points

Buying points allows you to change the point-spread or total of a football or basketball game.

You can move the point-spread so you get more points when betting the underdog or you give away fewer points when betting the favorite. For each half point that you change the point spread you need to pay an extra 10c.

So, for example, if you are betting the Lakers -5 -110 (lay $110 to win $100), you can buy the Lakers a half point to -4.5 -120 (lay $120 to win $100). You can buy the Lakers a full point to -4 -130 (lay $130 to win $100).

The same theory is true for the underdog. If the Bulls are +4 -110, you buy the game to +4.5 -120 or +5 -130.

You can only buy a maximum of 3 points in Football and Basketball, both College and Professional.

any sites with special promos right now?????

also can anyone explain this a little easier...

Buying points:
There are two special rules:

When buying on or off the number 3 in the Pro Football, there is a premium cost of 25c, not 10c. So, for example, to move the Chargers from -3 -110 to -2.5, the new line will be -2.5 -135 (lay $135 to win $100). The same is true for the underdog, to buy Bears from +3 -110 to +3.5 will be -135 (lay $135 to win $110).
On half, reduced or no juice games or half, reduced or no juice days, there are additional premium costs for buying points:
a) In college football there is a 5c additional charge per half point purchased.
b) For buying on or off the number 7 in college football, the premium is 25c.
c) In professional football there is a 5c additional charge per half point purchased.
d) For buying on or off the numbers 3 or 7 in professional football, the premium is 25c.

Please note: these premium costs for buying points apply from 12:01am to 11:59pm EST on the specified half, reduced or no juice day.

Man you were right, Air Force is wack. Barely any shots put up all game, must be crazy boring to watch. If I lose this game, which seems most likely, i'm still 7-1 for the day in college bball.
