**Official USMNT Soccer Thread**

After taking the last few days to think about the Azerbaijan friendly from the other day, the main concern for me is that we don't seem to be anywhere near piquing in terms of clicking on all cylinders. Perhaps thats a good thing since we still have 2 more warm up matches to go and about 2 weeks before our match vs Ghana, because we all know that that first match will set the tone for how our other two matches in the group stage will go with Portugal and Ghana.

All in all, there were no glaring disappointments other than we looked very average out there. IMO we certainly didn't look bad.

Our defense looked solid in stretches, had just a few hiccups throughout the game (Besler passing the ball well short to a Aze forward for an easy shot on Howard sticks out). As many of you had pointed out Fabian looked good out there, the Besler+Cameron duel was overall very solid. Beasley even made some good runs forward. When Omar checked in, he seemed to be pretty locked in and focused; overall he played up to his level and didn't slip up, very refreshing to see albeit off the bench. Chandler got up the field nicely and pushed the pace of the game a bit. Yedlin looked like a chicken with his head cut off out there

Bedoya was probably the highlight of our midfield. Jones and Bradley seemed to struggle to play off each other rather than next to each other which was the position they often found themselves in. Hopefully they settle into the diamond a bit better in the coming warmups should we stick with that formation. Zusi and Davis were solid on set pieces as expected. Mix did well to score.

Wondo did his thing, should have and needed to capitalize... not scoring on those opportunities in the WC (should he get the chance) will be tough to shake off. For all the heat Jozy got in this thread, I think he played solid in his role as target man. He more or less had his way with his back to goal and fought off defenders and drew some fouls. Not too worried with his performance. Johannsson, for some reason I always trust him to be a threat to score in multiple ways; big fan of his.

Again, we looked very average out there, not bad, not good. Just average. And in general sports term, leading up to a big tournament like the World Cup; thats not so bad. Its better than piquing too early and then fizzling out when the WC begins.

I liked today's episode. Nice seeing a local "hero" (Wondo) and learning about Johannsson's background

anyone know where I can watch a re-run. Currently dont have cable and am watching everything n watchespn. missed tonights cause i got home late form work

This 30 for 30 series has been great. I've been loving every minute of it. I wish they'd expand this to more teams in MLS & the European leagues. I loved Being Liverpool too & I'm not even a 'Pool fan... Love shows like this that show the behind the scenes stuff.

As for the last friendly, I think we learned a lot. Aside from Candle Stick being waay too windy & that Azerbaijan was a beatable opponent, I like what I saw in Fabian Johnson at right back. Hope he gets to play there against Turkey.

Although it was a meager opponent, I liked Geoff Cameron a lot better than Omar. The few times he had to, he looked great on the ball. He was positionally aware & worked in tandem with Besler.

I really loved how comfortable Diskerud & Johannsson looked as soon as they hit the pitch. You would've thought they were playing the whole game. They contributed right away rather than taking time to warm up & get in the flow.

I also liked what I saw in Zusi. He was nice on the ball & solid delivery in set pieces.

What worries me is Jermaine Jones though. He wasted the ball in possession & he kinda looks like he's being forced to play a role he either isn't comfortable with or doesn't like.

Anyway, the next game should be a better test for the team. I believe it will be on Sunday June 1st on ESPN2...

agreed, i love the show in general, so great to see the behind the scenes stuff.

and watching the show, hearing JK talk, it kinda makes sense why USA played so seemingly flat in the first 70 mins of the friendly. Hope to see a much better performance vs Turkey on Sunday

Clint Dempsey fit to start vs. Turkey

May 30, 2014
By Jeff Carlisle

STANFORD, Calif. -- U.S. national team manager Jurgen Klinsmann expects captain Clint Dempsey to resume full training on Friday and says the forward will "definitely" start in Sunday's friendly against Turkey.

Dempsey was slated to start the match against Azerbaijan on Tuesday but had to be removed from the starting lineup at the last minute when he felt soreness in his groin during the pre-game warm-up.

Speaking to reporters before the team's final practice session on the campus of Stanford University, Klinsmann reiterated his stance that the decision to have Dempsey sit out the match was strictly precautionary.

"If something gets worse the first 30 minutes ... there was no reason why we should risk anything," he said.

The 23 U.S. players arrived for their final workout at Stanford on Thursday, a quick session in the pool, before leaving the Bay Area. Klinsmann says Dempsey did "a lot of work" on Wednesday but the forward refrained from any sideways cuts or runs during the training to avoid re-aggravating the groin. Dempsey felt no ill effects in moving straight ahead.

Given that the team is scheduled to fly to New York later on Thursday, Klinsmann is convinced that Dempsey will be able to play on Sunday.

"He's all good. Today they have an easy regeneration day, a travel day; by [Friday], full speed in training," he said.

The U.S. team will play Turkey on June 1 in Harrison, New Jersey, and Nigeria on June 7 in Jacksonville, Florida, before heading to Brazil.

I got the USA jersey yesterday, but I want to grab the navy practice jersey too...after shipping costs WSS only saves me $4 =[

jcmojica thanks for posting that coupon! I was about to buy a jersey yesterday but good thing I changed my mind last minute! Just copped a Bradley home shirt right now for $85 shipped :pimp: :pimp: :pimp:

I don't know why so many people on the US Soccer's FB page hate the home shirt so much. I prefer simple designs over loud ones like the away kit. If you don't want it to look like a plain polo get the damn player's name & number on it like you're supposed to

how the hell did it come out to $85 shipped?  did you get an free shipping code or something?

Nevermind.... i was looking at the portugal player jerseys and theyre more expensive than the US's.  Portugal's player jerseys are $112 and US's $94.  Seems odd but oh well.
