question: does the US really need 3 GKs? Is that normal for a team to choose 3 GKs for a WC run?

its a Fifa rule that 3 have to be named to the squad...i read somewhere that in the history of the world cup all three keepers have only been used by 4 teams though

this announcer has been a whiny ***** since landon got cut......god I hope he doesn't call our world cup games

Twellman has always been like this.

For all intents and purposes, him and Lalas are Skip Bayless-esque characters when it comes to the USMNT.

it just seems worst now imo

dude hasn't said one positive thing today

This combo will prob do all three US games for ESPN. Darke will prob call other games too with other color commentators. ESPNs top play by play guy

damn I'm looking at the WC rosters, some teams are taking 4 GKs :wow:

So about 28% of the 32 Teams are taking 4 GKs with them:

Algeria
Australia
Belgium
Chile
Cameroon
Costa Rica
Iran
Ivory Coast
Nigeria

ESPN announced their play by play for the WC back in March:

In Brazil, we already knew that Ian Darke would be replacing Martin Tyler as the lead announcer thanks to his long-term contract with ESPN. Joining him for the World Cup will be veteran ESPN announcers Derek Rae and Adrian Healey, EPL commentators Jon Champion and Daniel Mann, and ESPN’s Fernando Palomo calling his first World Cup.

yea the GK thing is a weird rule..it should be like in baseball when teams dont want to use up their bullpen they just throw a position player on the mound...in the rare occurrence that a team would need to use a third keeper they should just put an outfield player in goal..i mean they do it anyway when a team is out of substitutions and the goalie gets injured..having to name 3 doesnt make any sense

I dont understand Belgium at all but those other teams definitely have no quality keepers. Probably the main reason they chose 4.
