**Official USMNT Soccer Thread**

Stupid fans on twitter expected green to come on and score a hat trick and pull of magical moves like Cristiano lol.

Kid looked good out there imo. Cant wait for the future

Haha, exactly, some fans are excited for the wrong reasons. He's for the future, not really for now. He's still playing in the fourth division, hopefully Pep will give him some playing time now that Bayern won the league. For now, having Green is important off the pitch than it is on.

This thread is funny. It was a "friendly" guys
I understand it was against a big rival but 2-2 is more then acceptable for me with all the players we put out there.

I didn't see a lot of the second half really wanted to see how Julian Green would handle himself out there. Anyone know if he will keep #9 i need to order my jersey

The Navy is such a huge difference IMO. It would of been insta-copped if it was Navy even without the translucent stars and stripes. I'm not even gonna bother with that bright blue even if that ishh is on clearance :smh: Nike.

Didn't catch the game but it's good hearing that Green did well on the pitch. I hope the kid is really the next big thing for US Soccer. We need a poster child bad to improve the sport here.

Last night was my first time seeing Yeldin, he's got a great physique and everyone loves to root for young players, but he seemed like he has low IQ for now.

Also Green doesn't look ready. He has the potential to bring something we don't have, but I think an issue is going to be that he's gunna get zero respect from refs as grown men push his fragile self off the ball.

Idk maybe you bring him to Brazil to get experience or as a wild card sub. Also imo it would help with getting other young prospects to switch which country they play for in the future.

Some new vids hit US Soccer's youtube page... BTW, I've mentioned this several times but you guys should visit their youtube page for updates & new vids. They keep it robust with new content. Top vid is a short interview with Green prior to last night's game.

Overall highlights from last night's game.

Bradley's goal.

Wondo's goal... Such a beautiful assist from Bradley...

Pulido's goal. This dude has been on a tear from El Tri... :smh: Omar getting lost in the sauce...

Marquez's Goal. Omar getting lost in the sauce yet again. Text book poor individual defending. The program should really use Omar's footage on what never to do (seriously).

I'm tired and slighty hungover and just for a friendly. I may not make it out of June.

Yedlins game intelligence will continue to improve but he's got great instincts. Important to remember he's exactly 2 years older than Green and has been a pro for exactly one year. I want to see him move to Europe ASAP preferably to a club where he can get a real tactical education.

I think Green is on the plane to Brazil regardless but there's a real possbility he won't be close to being ready to contribute meaningful minutes. He might really struggle to keep up with the pace and physicality of a WC game. Also gotta take into account we're gonna be playing with wide midfielders not wide forwards and the defensive responsibilities are going to be very real. He'll basically be limited to situations where we're down and chasing the game and need a spark off the bench. Definitely gotta take him for the experience though and who knows he might really impress when he gets an extended run in the upcoming friendlies.

Lets get it straight though, its not really a "friendly" when it's against Mexico

I liked the USMNT's first half.

Bradley was on fire :x Really enjoyed watching him and Wondolowski *sp

Second half was great for Mexico, the subs really helped make a difference on the squad.

Pulido and Jimenez man :pimp:

I was disappointed with the lack of Marco Fabian out there. He played well, but there were a couple of instances where he should have just let the cannon out rather than pass the ball to the wing :smh:

Great match up, the off-sde was wrong and a foul outside the box should have been given.

USA's jersey's are terrible.

Has Michael Bradley gotten better  since coming back to MLS?

Every #4 jersey will be bought from here on out.

Was great to see Green really settle down the last ten minutes. Thing that stood out for me the most was his movement. You can tell he's on a different level when it comes to finding and creating new space. We don't have wingers who move off the ball like that. EJ picked the ball up on that left wing in space that Green created three or four times in the last ten minutes. The little we saw of him with the ball at his feet just left me dying for more. It is worth mentioning that on that second goal when Montes sent in the initial cross Green was in a great position to support Parkhurst and close that window but instead he stopped and ball watched.

I've lost all faith in Gonzalez but sadly he's still near the top of our pool. I really wish Cameron had gotten more opportunities to partner with Besler last year.

Speaking of our best prospects, Yedlin's integration should have started immediately after the U20 World Cup. Kid is an elite athlete who's not at all one dimensional. TV doesn't do the difference in speed and burst between him and everybody else justice.

Good post. Even in that small sample one can tell he interprets and appreciates space at a different level. That's one quality that separates the good from the great, so it bodes well for his ceiling as an attacking player.

That said, there's obviously a massive amount of refinement and growth in his game for him to go through. It's already started a bit, and you expect in this day and age, but general USMNT supporters need to turn down the expectation and hype surrounding him. He is thought of highly at FCBayern, but from what I have ascertained he is not exactly considered a 'prodigy,' so hopefully he grows into whatever kind of player he will be without being burdened by expectation.

World Cup can't get here soon enough

Listening to Men in Blazers yesterday, Rog mentioned that USMNT isn't alone in worrying about their best players forms or cohesion. He specifically mentioned speaking to media members from Holland who are leery of their own shaky backline and fitness and form of RVP.

So I guess its a little reassuring to know that we aren't alone in being so iffy on the current state of our squad.

Also, Julian Green=Little Trout

Some USA footy vignettes featuring Tab Ramos talking about the U20 team & Klinsmann dropping in on the U18 team. The bottom vid are highlights to the U18 mens team vs Mexico from last weekend in which the team narrowly lost.

I had recently got my son an Argentina WC away shirt with Messi's name set but when I got it, it looked smaller than his other youth mediums. I laid them out & did a comparison. Sure enough it was sized like a youth small even though it was labeled a youth medium. I did a comparison to his club shirt which is made by Adidas & a youth small (his true size) & sure enough it lined up the same.

SoccerPro provided great customer service & also found it's an inch smaller than Adidas club youth mediums so they let me exchange the shirt. I got him the US WC away shirt with Bradley's name set. :smokin

and nice choice on that Bradley kit for your son

I'll probably end up getting Bradley as well, but not sure if I want the golf shirt or popsicle

Jimmy Conrad might not be for everyone, but he's visiting all the countries in our group.

Starting with Germany, ugh I envy this dude. I need to get back out there in the world and travel

Interesting to note, Bayern Munich executive Karl-Heinz Rummenigge picked the USMNT to get out of the group along with Germany(at the 6:40ish mark)

Klinsmann visiting Ramos & the U21 side.

This is a story about MLS' Toronto FC but it features among others Bradley. It was a good piece so I thought I'd share.

Arsenal's Gedion Zelalem Believed To Be In Washington D.C. Acquiring U.S. Passport

The 2015 U20 World Cup squad is already looking absolutely ridiculous. You throw Zelalem in the mix and oh my goodness.

Is Arsenal midfielder Gedion Zelalem  about to pledge his future to the U.S. national team?

The Insider has learned Zelalem is close to becoming an American citizen, and by virtue, become eligible to represent the United States in international competition. Zelalem, who turned 17 in January, is believed to be in Washington with his father this weekend for naturalization purposes. By the time they return to London, both will likely be carrying U.S. passports.

Zelalem is a German-born midfielder of Ethiopian descent who  lived in the D.C. suburbs for six years and honed his craft with Olney Rangers  before joining Arsenal last year [His Gunners profile]. He trained with the U.S. under-15 team twice, but without citizenship, did not meet eligibility requirements for official matches.

Zelalem is in the German national team system, but in March, abruptly withdrew from the under-17 squad ahead of European Championship qualifiers. Had he played in any of those matches, he would have relinquished any hope of representing the United States. FIFA does allow players to switch affiliations once, provided they are citizens of both countries at the time they make their international debut.

At the time, Arsenal said Zelalem withdrew in order to concentrate on his work with the club’s under-21s. That may well have been true, but international eligibility also seemed to have played into the decision.

Zelalem is eligible for a U.S. passport through the Child Citizenship Act of 2000, which “serves to facilitate the acquisition of U.S. citizenship of the foreign-born children of U.S. citizens – both biological and adopted – who did not acquire citizenship at birth.”

In other words, because he is under age 18, he would automatically become a citizen when his father becomes a citizen. His father, Zelalem Wolydes, was a medical technician in the Washington area, and despite joining his son in London, maintained U.S. permanent residency. At some point, he began pursuing citizenship. His application has apparently been approved, and both arrived in Washington in recent days to finalize the process.
