**Official USMNT Soccer Thread**

^^fyi, they changed the location for the Portugal viewing. Its going down in the same field the Blackhawks rally was it. The crowds were much bigger than expected on Monday.

But yea they had some decent stuff to do. Fifa 14, photo ops, soccer 3 on 3s, food and beer booths, merch shops.

what were prices like for food, booze and merchandise :nerd:

Jack's in SJ is the SJ Outlaw bar. they had a live feed from McTeagues up on tv and vice versa in McTeague's. place looked pretty packed and fun. might be worth checking out

You in the South Bay? I can't decide if I want to go out in north beach with all the craziness going on rooting for portugal. I love the usmnt but it's portugal for me this year. The 2002 usmnt is what really got me into soccer. None of my friends watch soccer but I have no problem going watching by myself. I do it all the time. I just don't want to deal with all the douchebag every four year soccer fans that's going to pack the bars. I noticed arsenal in your sig. You ever been to maggie macgarrys in north beach? Official gooner bar. I think they have one in sj too.

yeah i live right in SJ. would love to get up to SF for this game but getting home is always an issue after a long day/evening of drinking

if you're in the south bay and rooting for portugal, a good bar in downtown SJ is Britannia Arms Downtown on Santa Clara st. you'll find other portugal fans (as well as fans of all teams playing that day) there and people are usually friendly. show up alone, and grab a seat with some other portugal fans. sounds like you're up in SF though if you're looking to go to NB.

i haven't been to that gooner bar, but i'll try and check it out sometime. thanks for the heads up on it

Just ordered my Wondolowski Dominos Pizza/US Jersey. With ALtidore out I hope he comes through for us!

$5 16oz beer, dogs were like $3. Just basic stuff but decently priced. The merch is full retail. $90 jersey, $25-$30 Nike tee.

i dont remember beers but its $5 for the smaller pop (or soda as you people call it) and $8 for the bigger one which you can refill for $5

I'm looking forward to Portugal avenging their '02 loss to the U.S.

Patricio and Almeida being injured are the best things that could have happened to Portugal. Eder's speed is a welcome relief and Beto or Eduardo are much more decisive in goal.

Coentrão is obviously a huge loss and so is Pepe for a game. But hopefully Bento will give William a shot, he's very solid in the middle.

Portugal isn't nearly as bad as they looked against Germany, hopefully they'll prove it.

US isn't as bad as they were against Ghana either. This game will be interesting from a coaching perspective. So many wild cards.

Socal guys whats the spot sunday? Gonna be quite the Sunday fun day.

Side note: Mondays game was the highest rated soccer match ever on ESPN with 11 mill viewers. I think this Sunday will top that. Primetime baby.

This is the lineup I want to see. I think Wondo will come up big for us if given the chance and he's a real threat on set pieces and poaching goals. My concern with him is he'll be too slow on counterattacks and won't have the ability to take on a defender 1v1 and create space for a shot/pass.

If we see Julian Green at this WC it'll be at the end of this game. He has to be JK's secret weapon right? His speed and ability to draw fouls could be huge for us at the end of an exhausting game in Manuas. I guess he can also play vs Germany should we both qualify :pimp:

I wish Chandler was more reliable on D. We'd be able to move Fabian Johnson up to RM where he's excelled at the club and Nat level and boost our attack. I'm sure that's where he'll end up in the long run, but not at this WC.

The name of the game vs Portugal will be possession. We have to let the ball do the work and frustrate the desperate Portuguese team. if we can hit them early with a goal we might be able to get in their heads and give em the knock out punch. If they come out firing and the game is still 0-0 after 30 minutes, then I can see us winning the game. If they score early pepper your Angus's. Our fitness will definitely come into play in the second half and I think we should have the edge there.

Torn on the result I want for Germany-Ghana. On one hand I want Germany to win so we don't face a fully motivated team that needs a win against us to stay alive. On the other, if we beat Portugal and Germany tie or lose, we'd have a real good shot at first place with a tie vs them BUT we'd also have a higher chance at elimination even with 6 pts!

You can draw up scenarios here: http://ultra.zone/2014-FIFA-World-Cup-Group-Stage#group=g

I seriously think this Portugal game is a must win. There are too many wild cards on the last match day that could go wrong and this group could still live up to its name of the Group of Death. Of course we'll have a good idea on where we stand at 2 pm tomorrow. The wait is killing me.

As I finished typing this Yahoo put up an article on the Gha-Ger game implications for the US.

Howard

Johnson-Cameron-Besler-Beasley

Beckerman-Jones

Bradley

Zusi-Deuce

Johannsson

Bradley slightly behind Zusi and Deuce in that formation

SoCal where are you watching the game??? :nerd:

No clue yet man I'm waiting on everyone still to make up their mind. Do you know of any good spots for tmw? We did the AO party in Ontario for the Ghana game, we might do that again if nothing pops up.

thanks a lot, germany :smh:

let's control our own destiny and just give portugal that work tomorrow :pimp:
