**Official USMNT Soccer Thread**

You don't suit up and take the field for a tie...

...you take the field to win - I'm not happy.

We had several chances to end that match...

so do they kill soccer players in England like they do in other countries? cuz that goal keeper might want to invest in some protection ...

England = Rooney + Gerrard + A. Cole + Terry surrounded by mediocre/crap players. I feel bad for Rooney...he did everything right but Lennon and Wright-Phillips killed almost every English attack.
We discussed it weeks ago, but I really think that leaving Adam Johnson off the team would come back to hurt them. Their wide players are %%%!.

I know it's easy to say now, but to me Joe Hart was the option. I am interested to see going forward what Capello does.

with all the talk about the ball, this is probably the dumbest comment yet

his positioning was good, he cut out alot of Englands play through midfield, tackled and tracked from side to side...apart from a few misplaced passes, he played fairly well..Lampard was almost nonexistant through the middle, Bradley must have done something right

DeMerit i dont think put a foot wrong today, to keep Rooney quiet for most of this match and without a goal was incredible

england is truly unlucky to lose on such a awful mistake, but at the end of the day it was a disappointing showin really, must say usa played a great match as well.

unfortunately it cant go unsaid that robbie green is goin to have to worry for both his well being and his family's after that mistake, brits dont play around w their football. (see beckham + WC1998)

Why were Milner and King subbed off? Tactical changes or were they both injured? Carragher is finished...did y'all see Jozy burn him?

This team is extremely over-rated. I've been saying it for a decade now and they haven't improved much.

It's not about effort...English players usually give 100% effort...they just aren't talented enough.

As for the U.S...good result for them seeing as how they held the strongest team in the group to a draw. They shouldnt take Algeria or Slovenia lightly...this group is wide open.

Milner has been sick the past 3 days or so..he probably shouldnt have started, i think when Capello saw how easily Cherundolo was getting by him on the outside he had to take him off..especially getting a yellow so early

I think Milner was subbed cause he kept getting burned

I gotta disagree about the US playing good defense. There were so many holes in that defense but England just could not take advantage of it for some reason.

There were a couple of game saving plays by the defenders and goalkeeper though. It was not good overall.

Yeah Cherundolo was abusing Milner early and often, after he picked up that yellow there was no need to have him out there.

and everybody knows England is overrated. everybody knows that except the British.

earlier i was quick to call the US defense terrible.  i think what's misleading is that there were a couple of very good individual defensive performances (Onyewu, Cherundolo, Howard) but as a unit they didn't play well at all.
miscommunication, lapses in judgement, and amateur team defense was all too common today.

I think King got injured again

.
Hope this isn't the end of him. Ledley King could have easily been one of the best defenders in the world if it wasn't for his knee problems

im happy with the draw from a result standpoint. but god damn, our back line just caved every single time england came in on the attack. gooch standing around on that quick gerrard goal was terrible. dempsey, while lucky with green's mishandle, created that shot nicely and struck it hard enough to cause the bobble. jozy burning carragher (i think) was nice, green came up big to knock it into the post. overall, not bad. but our back line needs to figure **#* out. communicate better so someone takes charge out there. there were too many times where it was like, "no you get it, oh should i? no you get it." get it together.

we mustve been watching a different game. we held england scoreless for 90 straight minutes. backline played great.

tim howard held england to one goal

EDIT: and england squandered chances. we're lucky to come away with a draw.

Meh im kinda inbetween u two. The d was just super inconsistent. Once we get some consistency in our backlines we'll be golden

My takes on the game:

- Howard is the most underrated goalie in this cup
pimp.gif

- Our defense is horrible IMO, this game coulda easily been 5-2 with England having the edge. Rooney didn't get going until the last 15 minutes and maybe shoulda' scored twice if things went their way.
- We had a very lucky day with Green having the infamous butter hands & England counter attacking off but just imagine if the Altidore shot made it through...smh
pimp.gif
but i guess all things can't go our way.
- In all, great win by the U.S. and it had the ENTIRE country buzzin about the game, never before had i seen so many FB statuses about the game

Edit: Just realized that picture is photoshopped

The reflection on the table + Beck on TV = Fake.

neither team should be too proud of that result... yes, they will probably both get out of the group, but don't plan on beating teams top teams with that kind of play

carragher has no legs, hope king is really back after one game.. and why was finnely up top with jozy?(i know he has speed but deff no touch) Buddle played so well and can actually put the ball in the net. Maybe it was just me but the US did not really seem like they were trying to win, it seemed as if we were content with a tie.. and how you gonna play herc like that.. 4 secs in the game n you try and sub.. Howard deff shined, and even thought the back line let alot through they deff made up for it with some good saves when it counted..

Did you see the saves Enyeama of Nigeria made today? There are plenty of under-rated keepers in this tournament. Howard is pretty well known (after all, he did play for Manchester United). He's also well known due to him playing in the Premiership and for his performance last year at the Confederations Cup.
