**Official USMNT Soccer Thread**

the stars in the crest represent the stars in the flag.

if the u.s. wins a world cup then they will just put a star on top of the crest.

as far as game tix, those pretty expensive or not too much over face value?
I bought the tst for the usa, they were about 184 with taxes for category 1 per ticket but they had 120 and 80 also. But for the other tickets i paid under face, tickets were available. Brazil will be the same thing.

I hope the US gets 2022!

We need a new coach, "JURGEN".

Buddle and Landon to Europe

Boca and Timmy possibly retiring

In preparation for 2014, how do you go about tickets. I remember hearing that buying tickets for the World Cup isn't the same as just buying tickets for a baseball or football game

it's a lottery. You submit your application and if you win they deduct your cc. Doesn't start until like a year prior, spring 2013.

I think USA soccer is on the right path but I think the real issue is talent development at a young age. IMO the more players we can get over to Europe at a young age playing soccer the better the team will get.

I think one of the things holding us back that I haven't seen discussed yet is labor laws. No true Youth Academies and the like are a killer IMHO

That's a great point.  I'm wondering if they could somehow implement a tennis style Nick Bollettieri method.

Good point, I was reading today how all of these stars attended some sort of youth program (league). We definitely need something like that if we want to compete consistently. But for that to happen, the sport still needs to become more popular as a professional sport in our country.

well one thing about kids in america you play for scholarships, you are brought up playing soccer will get you into college. not play soccer only in youth developments for a profession career.

That's what i'm saying though. After AYSO you either continue on with that, or play club soccer which is SUPER expensive. It prices a lot of good kids out of the sport and they drop it altogether, and I believe that's the dagger for youth development.

At least, that's how it is out here in SoCal

I GOT A QUESTION!!!

I know this may not be the thread for this, but nonetheless . . .

Did goal 3 ever release? It was supposed to be about the 06 WC with him playing for Mexico right?

If so . . . I was at Borders last weekend and saw a "GOAL!" book with Santi on the cover, with a SPAIN jersey on. I flipped it open and it mentioned him in a game passing the ball to Ramos and so on, I was sickened

Don't watch Goal 3. I didin't really like Goal 2 either really. I don't what the hell is going on with that book. Maybe its mostly about goal 2 or maybe it has nothing to do with Santi.

funny enough this is exactly what happened to me when i was a teenager. i ended up focusing on american football (which oddly enough given the necessary equipment is virtually free) because my mom couldn't afford for me to keep playing club after our coach who had been helping me out for years left.

i think it depends on where you're located though, i was pretty unfortunate. i know a lot of kids in Norcal from less than well off families that didn't/don't have trouble getting around club expenses. if you're known to ball out there's always somebody willing to eat that bill.

^ this is true.

But you just know there's some dude out there that would've been an amazing forward but got lost in the system and is working pumpin gas somewhere (not literally, but you know what I mean)

The fact that the USMNT has gone TWO world cups w/o a goal from a true forward is remarkable and unacceptable.

I come from the "hood" but I got to play club for almost free, but the only reason I quit playing club was because sometimes I could not make it to practices and then I would start on gamedays and some parents would complain to the head of the program about it.

I've seen some of my buddies back then get sponsors to pay for his dues, but realistically thats only for the kids who are deemed hot shots "no doubt about it". For the kid who might just need the maturation it's not possible, ending in him dropping it.

As another poster said, its practically free to play football here in high school. I only had to pay $775 for my spirit pack and pay for my ASB card and that was it. My brother who played baseball his whole time in HS paid $250 freshman year, $300 sophomore year, $400 and then $500 in his senior year. He graduated in 07, he coaches the frosh team now and it's $100 more each grade.

Football has it on lock, soccer should be no different. Encourage the kids to keep on playing with low costs, I mean its got to cost a bit less for the organizations than it does for football since the only real equipment is the ball, pitch, and the officials. FB you have tons of expensive equipment to deal with year in year out and so on.

I guess it makes no sense to me why this isn't addressed when AYSO is the most played sport when we're kids.
