ENGLAND OR JAPAN GET THAT #%$$

We didn't learn our lesson. Knew it would bite us in the !!#. Clark shouldve never started. We were too tired from the get go. 3 days rest is ridiculous. All the qualifiers I attended abroad n time spent following this team down the drain. Oh well there's always next time. Was fun while it lasted...

I should really try to give MLS another shot

It's just after keeping up with the EPL since 03, it's irritating seeing the pace of the game here in the states.

I mean hell, HDC isn't further than a 10 minute drive up Del Amo and Avalon

I will be SHOCKED if Luis Gil is not in the next world cup roster. Hes 16 and already playing with the u-20's, their trying to move him up.

"African booty scratchers'' was a quote from "Boyz N The Hood'', lighten up...

...we should've taken that game, but oh well.

Good run by Ghana though - keepin' the African dreams alive...

I think a wrote a post here earlier in the year about the poor season Altidore was having. I'm not saying he deserves all the blame but he definitely deserves some of it. Simply put, you cant have players bench warm relegation bound teams during World Cup years and then expect them to do much against world class opposition in June. Players like Dempsey and Donovan had great club seasons and continued on their fine form in the WC. Altidore had a terrible club season and so it was no surprise that he did absolutely nothing in the WC.

As for the U.S. team, their is some promise going forward. The team and the MLS are obviously getting better and they should continue to progress in the coming years. I think the negatives are pretty obvious for U.S. fans. The central defence is very weak and the U.S. need a striker that can create chances from nothing and can bang in chances. Maybe Altidore will improve in the future but right now he is a very limited striker. Gomez is better IMO but I guess Bradley wanted Altidore out there due to his size.

Remember that soccer powers aren't born over night. The U.S. program really began taking off in the early-90s so it'll take a bit more time before the U.S. can really begin to think about challenging the best teams in the world.

Im disappointed because I felt like the US couldve gone further in the cup, but Im proud of the resiliency they showed and that they won their group - something that they hadnt done since when..? Especially considering the two goals that got taken from them.

Going further the future looks bright. From what the U20 did in the cup a couple years ago, and knowing some of the younger guys on the circuit now, it does looks bright. With that being said, there's no time like the present and I was really hoping theyd put together a run much like the confederations cup. I think not having Davies was a big factor. He could stretch the pitch much like Finley could, except Davies could put the ball in the back of the net. Going forward I hope he gets back to full health because there's no denying the chemistry he has with Altidore. Thats something I thought also hurt the US. The top two forwards didnt really play off each other and not one striker for the US scored during all four games.

As far as Altidore goes, he's extremely young and he has a lot of maturing (his game) to do and needs to be more consistent but today he looked gassed and Im pretty sure in the first half he got knocked in the leg. Thats no excuse for his play but against Algeria he had a solid game. He has all the tools available but when no one gets him the ball at the top of the box, he cant do what he does best. Same thing when Gomez came on. They shouldve exploited Ghanas fatigue when he was in but no one could get him any touches.

The back four was really bad. And thats a shame because individually they all are pretty solid to exceptional players (Not you Bornstein). Collectively they did horrible communicating and they got punished for it. After England I thought for sure theyd get it together because marking your player and knowing where you're supposed to be is fixable. Its not like the were completely outmatched. They have the skill to adjust but they just couldnt do it for some reason. I do think that because the midfield couldnt control possession that put more strain on the back four than what shouldve been. So they deserve some blame aswell.

I cant really question Bob Bradley I thought he managed the team pretty well, other than today. I think Edu shouldve started before Clark (who Im sure feels horrible right now) and Buddle or Herc for Finley. Other than that the subs were pretty good and I cant really see much reason to complain.

All in all Im disappointed because they have the ability and skill to be better than what they showed credit goes to Ghana tho. Idk just my thoughts, right or wrong.

I don't think Altidore was bad at all.  I think he had a particularly excellent game against Algeria.  No he is not scoring goals right now but when he playing the hold up game and gave set up a couple of chances today.  Mainly the one for Feilhaber beginning of second half.  I agree right now he is limited but we really don't have anyone else.  I mean at least he was not invisible when he was on the pitch.

U20s are looking very strong.  There are more foreign-based kids in the player pool than I can ever remember seeing.
I don't expect the U17s to be a factor for 2014 but there is a big forward named Kellen Gulley that might be one to watch.

Too early to call on Gil.  He has the skills but the next step is for him to play well for the U20s and his club and then we'll see about the MNT.
