Anyone have any idea what lineup Jürgen Klinsmann will put out vs Colombia. Dempsey looks like he's on the decline. I really hope nagbe, pulisic, Fabian Johnson and wood all start againts Colombia.

Just watched the game after recording it.

If Zardes first touch was better

If Pulisic doesn't start he should be the first off the bench

If Nagbe starts....NO NAGBE MUST START I DON'T CARE I DON'T CARE, have Bradley and Jones behind him.

I could see Nagbe and/or Pulisic starting in the 2nd game.

No way Jürgen goes with anything but an ultra conservative line up vs Colombia, sadly

I think Clint still has the skill to perform on the International level.

Bold Prediction - we beat Colombia 2-1

This is the most talented and by far the deepest U.S. team I've ever seen.

Jones, Bradley and Bedoya give us massive nut sack in central midfield while Wood and Zardes offer enough with their movement and athleticism on the outside to provide us with more than a respectable attack going forward from what's really more of a grinding type XI in terms of style.

Then you have Pulisic and Nagbe off the bench. Have fun dealing with that after you've been banging it out with Jermaine Jones for 70+ minutes.

I'm sure many outlooks are all doom and gloom, how are our guys going to compete against the likes of Colombia, + the other heavyweights if it comes to it, etc but we should really be proud of the caliber of player on this team.

Looking forward to being in attendance on Friday, really can't say I'll be surprised if we pull out a win.

The proof is in the pudding. I know this team can beat Colombia. They are good, but not world beaters like Brazil or Argentina. If we can make it to the finals, I will be happy

My only thing is, imagine if some players actually lived up to the hype. Rankin or Jerome. Hell where is Joseph Gyau??? :nerd:

Another guy I have not heard of recently is the dude that played in Norway. Gatt??? Anyone knows where he plays at??

Lulz @ northoaklandfc northoaklandfc 's using a "massive nutsack" reference when talking about midfield depth.

Given the way he looks once he hits the pitch, I think Nagbe is worthy of starting.

US vs Bolivia highlights from US Soccer's YT site.

Some vignettes prior to the match. Man, I really love the new crest.

Gyau and Gatt are both rehabbing knee injuries man

I like what Gyau showed in his limited time being healthy

Renkin, Gatt, and Gyua have all been derailed by potentially career ending knee injuries.

Renkin has been permanently set back, he's just not the same player he was. I think he's down in the USL.

Gatt is still with Molde in Norway but hasn't played since summer 2013 when he shredded his knee. Missed all of 2013 and then missed all of 2014 after there were complications and he had to have a second operation. He made a brief return last spring and was subbed off after 10 min, ended up having to have a third knee operation and missed all of 2015/16. He's still rehabbing with Molde but I'm fearful he's done.

Gyau I'm actually optimistic about. He had complications with his knee issues but it was never as serious as the injuries Gatt suffered and it sounds like Dortmund has deliberately taken it very very slow. The showed a lot of faith reupping his contact. He should be ready to go with the reserves by the time camp starts in a few weeks.

Gyau's actually looking phenomenal physically and post a ton of training related stuff on IG/snap chat. Definitely a fun dude to follow in general.

Shout to the cyclops aka Terrance Boyd too hell be back by preseason.

You haven't hopped on this wave yet fam? You know you get a pass right?

All the Bay area "fans" who jumped ship and ran to cop Vlade Divac and JWill jerseys in the early 2001's, what would we look like not raising the gates for you bro?

^^^ this is what happens when you have some talent. I have been the biggest supporter of Klinsy, but I do scratch my head at some of the lineups and the people he brings in. A guy like Wondo for example. Dude should never put a NT jersey. He's great at the Club level, but in this level he's trash. He brought Timmy chandler?? Dudes has done nothing at the club level, yet he brings him in. Thank god he picked up a knock, but still those are my concerns with Klinsy.

I've consistently supported Klinsmann through think & thin. Yes, some of his line-ups have been highly questionable especially when he plays guys out of position which I think has hamstrung the team.

I disagree with the Chandler & the Wondo assessment. Timmy has been a rock for Frankfurt at right back. He has also played well at times for the US but I will agree he hasn't been consistent & sometimes poor. Klinsmann kept playing him at left back if I remember & he doesn't play well there & it showed. He also played a lot while nursing injuries or coming off injuries.

As for Wondo, he's been a very serviceable striker especially for someone who appears sparingly over the years (prior to recent times). He has to have like 10-13 goals for 25-30 caps or so. He hasn't had the best service during the times he's appeared for the US & has had to score those poaching type of goals.

And to think so many people were calling for Klinsmans head a couple years ago...
My mom's was right patience is a virtue, the future is looking bright guys.
I do not correlate the US decent looking future with Klinsmann tbh

our strange lineups, mispositioning of players, head scratching lineups, and essentially not playing up to this groups full potential (a group that many of us are saying is the most talented US group EVER) are all still a direct results of Klinsmann.

in the latest MLS Soccer.com podcast, Matthew Doyle said that players have been telling him everyday they've played different positions everyday in camp and have yet to receive any tactical instructions yet........ so reality checks like that is what quickly clouds what little optimism I may have with Klinsmann.

i think you can still support Jurgen but also say the jury is still out. the fact of the matter is we need REAL results. meaningful results. not some nice wins here and there. more consistency. i haven't written him off yet. the talent that's developed has been nice but let's see how he uses it. he can't keep experimenting forever. we've got to get guys into roles where they can expect to be so they can develop some sense of familiarity with the role alongside some type of playing style.

that said, man Russia in '18 has me excited

I've lost patience with JK and the development process to be 100% honest with y'all. We have the Copa America at home, something that might never happen again, and we are 9th favorites to win the title. We aren't even favored to get out of our group. I thought JK was brought in for tournaments like this?

This topic seems to come up every time the U.S is going into a tournament and its a pretty funny coincidence considering we where all just discussing this being the best talent pool we've ever seen.

I haven't finished reading it yet but once I do i'll give my thoughts even though I like most of us have seen this topic before and already have some type of opinion about it. I just decided to share this anyway now.

My current stance in general is the bigger the talent pool the better returns you get, making the talent pool more accessible will only make U.S soccer better and improvements can be made in increasing the talent pool.

interesting piece,

Big game Friday. Legooooo

To kind of coincide with the post by Armada Armada .

Very interesting story about the rise of Uruguay under the stewardship of manager Oscar Tabarez...

http://www.espnfc.us/copa-america/8...ed-uruguay-reemerge-as-a-south-american-power

I loved this part of the post -

Before taking on the Uruguay job in 2006 (his first spell included the 1989 Copa America and 1990 World Cup), Tabarez spent some time brooding on the theme of globalisation and its effects on football in his country. He came to one clear conclusion: The demands of domestic Uruguayan football were no longer compatible with those of the top class international game.

The opening up of a global market in players had clearly made it impossible for such a small country to keep hold of its stars. The local league had some promising youngsters, some grizzled veterans, and little quality in between. This meant that those who stood out in the Uruguayan league were not necessarily good enough for the national team -- and that those good players who left at an early age ran the risk of losing a connection with the land of their birth.

The solution for this was to invest in the national youth sides. Tabarez and his team went looking to identify youngsters with the capacity to shine at a top level. Above all they were looking for speed: speed of movement, speed of thought, speed of technical execution. And once players with these attributes had been identified, they were given a crash course in the historical identity of the Uruguayan national team. In the future, if they were to be called back from their European club to represent that national team, they had to know all about the importance of that sky blue shirt.

The bottom line isn't necessarily about money, it's about the investment in youth development (coaching/teaching). All you need is a very grass roots highly organized approach that include proper coaching. No more dads coaching, the US needs a clear certification process like they have in Europe where you have to earn coaching badges before you take on a position in club/travel soccer.

I hate that whole argument about the better youth athletes going to football & basketball. It's not about having the biggest, fastest, strongest players. Thats a very English approach & look how their national team has evolved & the terrible quality of play in the prem.

Like another NTer posted in the other footy thread.

http://www.espnfc.com/major-league-...-mls-has-too-much-running-and-too-little-play

Some quotes from what Pirlo said in the link above.

"It's a very hard league to play in. It's very physical, there's a lot of running. So there is a lot of physical work and to me, in my mind, too little play," Pirlo told Reuters at a MLS promotional event. "What I'm talking about is actually a system or culture. I don't mean that the level of technical skills are low. I just mean there is a cultural void that needs to be filled."

Former AC Milan and Juventus midfielder Pirlo said that Americans who play soccer at college are already behind in terms of their development when compared with European peers. He stressed that youth training in Europe also includes technical skills.

"They pick them and they train them in much more than just running," he said. "They train them in stopping the ball. Here that doesn't happen.

"So when a young man becomes a professional in the United States he still has some gaps that need to be filled when playing on the field," he said.

At my son's level I see horribly coached sides that win lots of games & tournaments. The most glaring thing I see immediately when watching teams are players not knowing their positioning & what their position requires. I've seen so many games were there is no midfield presence, or someone isn't wide like they should be, or fullbacks not running up & down the flanks like they should.

I hate hate hate seeing kick ball meaning seeing kids kick the ball in the air to lob above players & then blips to a section of the field where their team mate isn't occupying. And these are all teams that again are winning games, leagues, & tournaments.

Maybe our man, northoaklandfc northoaklandfc sees better at his higher level... :rolleyes

A lot of Jurgen's problems are due to the fact that we don't have the high level of football talent that other countries do. We like to think we do, but we just don't. Klinsmann makes some of the odd a** choices because he's trying to find solutions because of the lack of talent.

Even if we began reinventing the youth system like it should be, we're still at least a lifetime away from being able to truly compete for a World Cup win but we're not making those inroads to that yet.
