**Official USMNT Soccer Thread**

Since Dempsey isn't able to score miracle goals against the run of play like he used to, this team is truly @#@$@# in the past you always had hope that he'd score one while having 10% possession

To not beat ourselves up to bad this was against Columbia who are just a much better team than we are...does this count as a positive
ohwell.gif

Also its getting harder and harder to defend Bradley...I am running out of reasons and recent performances to argue he is still a decent player, I mean I think he is still decent but man its hard to keep arguing this with people.

Does Bradley need to start every game?? How about Demps??? maybe its time to drop the old guard and bring in the younger generation. :rolleyes

It's my own fault, I got optimistic about this game. I set myself up for this disappointment :smh:

I honestly don't see how we get out of this group, not with the way we absolutely struggle to score goals.

 Here come the pessimism and over reactions.

Let's clear one thing up - if you watched 5 minutes of the game and had to turn it off because the U.S. was so "trash" like one person said, you probably don't really like soccer and clearly don't know enough to make a statement like that. Come on.

Can we keep one thing in perspective here - Colombia historically is one of the greatest footballing nations on this side of the world. Currently they're ranked #3, they're legitimately a top 5 - 6 team on the planet.

The early goal killed us, that was not supposed to happen, personnel and game plan were not designed to react to something like that. After the first 10m Colombia just dropped back in their own half for the remainder of the first half. Really we were fine in possession after Colombia let us take control but we couldn't generate enough chances.

Any attack featuring Jones and Bedoya as your #8 and #10 with another pure bruiser in Zardes on the wing doesn't have the skill or traits to deal with that kind of bunker. Safe to presume the game plan was to grind it out and try to steal it late with attacking subs. Giving up a goal off a set piece in the eighth minute can't happen.

Thought the penalty was unlucky but I was on the opposite end and haven't seen the replay yet.

Was surprised how much Colombia pushed the game to open the 2nd half. Dominated the opening 10 minutes or so. After that we were chasing the game, a little anxious, always gonna result in unforced mistakes in possession.

Really thought we might steal this and who knows how things would have played out if we didn't give up a goal early like that. Overall we looked fine against a truly elite team. By no means were we trash, nor did our players look out of their depth against elite individuals.

As I've been saying for a while now, sit Dempsey and let Wood slide into his natural position at CF. Sit Bedoya or Jones and start Nagbe.

all the immediate "US is trash" reactions immediately tell me who is "world cup" fan and who is a soccer fan to be honest

Costa Rica won't even have Keylor Navas but if we play like tonight I can safely say money saved on this years USA kits.

Oh, so they aren't trash compared to teams ranked below 100 like Laos and Myanmar. Nice way to put a spin on it! Call me a fake fan then. You USA optimists are the same people who used to do things like flood this thread with videos of Jozy Altidore scoring in the Dutch league every time he played like trash, and now your guys saviors are Bobby Wood and a teenage Pulisic

Bro every single one of my posts in this thread is on record. What I posted 6 years ago still there.

I didn't put any spin on it man.

Read what I wrote again and tell me what specifically you take issue with.

U.S. aren't trash relative to Colombia. Tonight was evidence.

For sure we have limitations, but the game more complex than trash vs. elite.

I didnt even know that Navas was injured, thats great news for us. But like you said, if we play like we did today its lights out for us

Saying things like "by no means did we look out of our depth" is extreme bias and the attitude that allows this team to be mediocre for eternity. Not being able to produce any type of threat during 90 mins isn't being out of your depth?

We didn't look out of our depth. Certainly not to the extent that concluding that we're trash is reasonable or rational.

Put it this way, there's a short list of teams in this tournament who will fare better against Colombia than we did tonight.

I stated specifically what I saw.

How specifically was Colombia's performance miles ahead of our own?

That's the disappointing thing to me, Colombia wasn't even that good tonight. They were there for the taking, and the way we can out in the 2nd half was incredibly frustrating for me to watch. Colombia wasn't miles ahead of us at all, yet we didn't go at them like I would've liked

Also this might just be semantics, but Colombia is not a top 5-6 team in the world IMO. Off the top of my head I'd put Argentina, Chile, Uruguay ahead of them, and that's just in South America. Brazil could be argued to be better as well. Colombia is definitely the better team then the US, but the US let them off the hook. Better yet they only half attempted to throw the hook

To me, not being able to pass the damn ball is being out of your depth when playing a sport that requires you to be able to pass  also the whole point of the sport is to create chances and score. Did we do that?

No chance colombia is top 5-6, fifa rankings are the biggest joke I've ever seen

In no specific order:

Argentina
Brazil
Chile
Uruguay
Germany
France
Belgium
England
Spain

Couldn't pick you out RCK, here's my photo for the day.

400

Also yeah FIFA rankings are the biggest joke ever, Germany not even number one after being WC champs, form has been somewhat poor but still, Spain got washed by Brazil in Confeds and still kept their number one spot...

England ain't top 10 either to be fair here, but your point is well taken and I agree

I feel you man felt to me like after Colombia scored, they were playing with the full tournament in mind, content to bunker and conserve as little energy as possible in the +95 degree heat.

Then they just come out and completely take control to open the second half. Probably the most frustrating part of the day for me. Easy to say in retrospect but JK should have made a change at the half.

The rankings are so subjective, personally I'm not taking Uruguay over Colombia.

Argentina, France, Belgium, Germany, Colombia Chile, Spain, Uruguay. For me no other country is near that group right now.

I don't know man they can't pass! Sounds like a cop out to me. It's definitely spinning it.

It's no secret we're not nearly effective enough in the final third. Colombia weren't good in that phase either, though they were better. Imo there's not a single phase of the game that Colombia bossed us in. I don't see how that possibly translates to us being trash.

I legit just got home.

I have no fire takes, just kinda bummed.

Really thought the game plan was to grind it out and hopefully find fortune late or settle for a draw and that would have been a fine gameplan, but it all went to hell in the 8th min
