Asone of the top young American prospects in Europe, Joe Gyau has emergedfrom the Bundesliga winter break to be part of Hoffenheim’s push toqualify for European play.
Gyau,19, began taking the initial steps last summer when he was invited totrain with Hoffenheim’s first team during its preseason. While Gyau didplay in some friendlies for the club, he was not part of the team’splans for the first half of the season.
During the fall he playedextensively with Hoffenheim’s under-23 team but during the winter breakhe received a call that he would resume training with the first team inpreparations for the start of the second half of the year.

He's been on his job scoring like crazy for Borussia Dortmund II. Something like 11 goals in 17 matches, but they do play in the German 4th division. From what I've seen of highlights and streams from the U23 camps he's big, strong, intelligent off the ball, and has good feet. I get the feeling that Caleb Porter rates him over Agudelo and Bunbury as a #9.

Brek Shea is a huge disappointment so far (based on how confidently he plays in the MLS vs how sloppy he plays for USA). He's young though, so hopefully he steps it up in the future
