Sochaux: Charlie Davies 'Still Very Far' from Full Return
Back when Charlie Davies' exclusion from the preliminary World Cup roster caused such an uproar, it seemed as if the rehabbing forward needed just a little more time, and perhaps some faith from the U.S. coaching staff. Davies, seriously injured in an October 2009 car accident, really believed he should have been going to South Africa.

In February, Davies had said that he was "not too far away from playing again." In May, after U.S. coach Bob Bradley announced his roster Davies gave a furious radio interview during which he claimed his club, Sochaux, "denied me a chance at playing in the World Cup" by refusing to give him medical clearance to join the national team. Again, that implied that Davies wasn't far off.

Turns out he was, and still is.

According to this dispatch from Soccer America, Davies won't play for Sochaux's senior side until at least next year.

Sochaux coach Francis Gillot said on French radio that "Charlie is still very far from achieving his level. I can't yet count on him. We'll have to wait until January."

Davies has gotten minutes with Sochaux's 'B' team, which plays in the amateur French fourth division. Sochaux trainer Cedric Blomme said Davies "is still far what you can hope for, even in the (fourth division)."

Soccer America quoted a local reporter who saw Davies play in late August as saying that he was "painful to watch."

Sébastien Daucourt of L'Est Républicain wrote: "In an hour on the field, his misery lingered. He touched just a few meager balls, with which he hardly did anything. He even began to grouse after his teammates before heading directly to the locker room, his head low, after his substitution."

In his next game, against Louhans, Davies earned a red card. He hasn't played for the 'B' team since. That was Aug. 28.

All the tweets and interviews in which Davies promised he was on the verge of a return were just wishful thinking. He's lucky to be alive, and considering the broken bones and internal injuries he suffered that tragic night in Arlington, Va., it's a miracle he's as far along as he is.

^^^ Well we can only hope for the best. In all honesty I want Charlie to get better for him and the NATS, but let's face it, dude was in a life and death accident so if he ever plays for the NATS it will be an accomplishment in itself. Lets all stay positive. We got the friendlies coming up, so let see what surprises ROBOBOB has for us. Michael Orozco anyone?

Bob needs to get in contact with angel del ponce from chivas already.

but it would bring tears to my eyes if Brian McBride starts against poland.

Why the hell would he even call up BMcB? I know he's retiring and all, and he was an amazing asset to the sport in this country. But we don't have time to be starting and playing people to say "thank you for all you've done." Especially at the forward position, where we don't have anyone who can find the back of the net.

Look for Robobob to call up EJ from Fulham, who found minutes Saturday, and will continue to find minutes w/ B. Zamora going down. I also would like to see Sebastian Lletget get a call up being he'll be in Avan Grant's West Ham plans next season. I'd also like to see Luis Gil get a call up to see what he can do on an international level. But knowing Bob, he'll keep the same core group of guys....which is good, but also very frustrating.

I been watching Luis Gil games recently and the Kid has some skill. He could be a future no#10 for us. Sebas is going to play on the NT soon. He is too good for him not to make it. He had some kind of infection recently, but he got all the tools to be a starter at WEST HAM.

^ Word. That's good news. I still haven't gotten a chance to see Luis play.
Charlie Davies caught driving 125 mph
Associated Press

PARIS -- A French newspaper is reporting that American forward Charlie Davies, who nearly died in a car crash last year, was caught speeding at 125 miles per hour last weekend.

The website of Le Progres newspaper reported Friday that Davies was driving an Audi Q7 last Sunday when he was caught on a motorway in France's Jura region.

Davies, who plays for French club Sochaux, was involved in a car accident on Oct. 13, 2009, that killed another passenger and left him severely hurt. He was not the driver.

He suffered two broken bones in his right leg, a broken and dislocated left elbow, a broken nose, forehead and eye socket, a ruptured bladder and bleeding on the brain.

The 24-year-old missed the World Cup.

Davies scored two goals for Sochaux against Bordeaux near the start of the 2009-10 season, but has not yet played on the first team this season.

He has four goals in 17 games for the U.S. and played a part in the run to the 2009 Confederations Cup final.

After an incredible recovery, Davies returned to training with Sochaux in March this year.

is it too much to ask Bob to deviate from the standard 4-4-2? I wouldn't mind seeing this lineup on Saturday.

                              Guzan

Cherundolo--Onyewu--Bocanegra--Lichaj

                      Jones -- Bradley
       Feilhaber ---               --- Dempsey
                             Holden

                            Altidore

It's a shame Torres didn't get a nod even though that would mean having to drop somebody else from our already congested midfield. I really think he needs more game time with the NT even though. Would have liked to see Mix Diskerud get a call up too.

Oh yea and via his facebook

I like the core group we have...in 2012...we're gonna be a problem. Our youth team is gonna make noise in London too watch.
