**Official USMNT Soccer Thread**

 @ only wanting players who were born and raised in the US

Even teams like Spain are taking players like Diego Costa who was born and Grew Up in Brazil.

Messi plays for Argentina even though he's been in Spain since he was a little kid basically.

It's not that black and white. Every country does it.

And furthermore, the US is a melting pot of cultures and different backgrounds. It's entirely American to have a squad that consists of players from different areas of the world.

And then there's the youth academies. If you want the US to become great, that means more kids leaving the US at a young age to go play for youth academies in Europe and elsewhere because the US doesn't have that. So if a US born kid goes to La Masia at age 9 you don't want them playing for the NT later on?

Why am I getting dragged into this Foreign born vs US born nonsense? No one, atleast me and AZWildcat said the US shouldnt have foreign born players on the team. Like someone said...we would all welcome Messi and Ronaldo if they wanted to play for us. All that was said was that it was dissappointing to see so many players born abroad on the team. No one said they were not "American" or that we were bad for havin them. I then added that we were not doing enough to recruit more players born and bred in the US. Would i rather see a UCLA or Local highschool product on the field rather than some guy born in stuttgart who has never been to the US? Sure I would but that doesnt mean the Stuttgart guy is not American or shouldnt play for America. The last few posts have been nonsense...many of you didnt take reading comprehension classes.

ajiiiplatinum ajiiiplatinum , your my man 100 grand but there isn't enough of the players ready for the first team right now hence the reason why Klinsmann & the program going that route. Those players were needed which is proven given how 2031 turn out, the convincing way we qualified, & how we won the CONCACAF Gold Cup.

There is some talent in the U21 ranks & below but their not ready to contribute what's needed right now.

The important step was infusing as much talent as possible that can help the program go in the direction needed to become a better footballing nation.

Understood but its been the same story since 1990. All we hear is wait for the next generation of AYSo kids, wait for the project adidas and nike kids, wait for us to start our own soccer league, wait for more players to start on european clubs.
Honestly I dont care if we nationalize 11 dutch players but some of us were just pointing out the amount of players on the team especially since Klinsman (yes Klinsman our coach) said we were not taking advantage of our diversity in America or scounting for local talent when he got hired.

If inner city kids played soccer more there would some talent coming out...there's some good Latino talent who never get involved with organized soccer but I'm sure they'd opt to play for Mexico if they were on that level

FYI, we've been recruiting dual citizenship players since our NT's inception...

Many of our NTs players at the beginning of this century were italian, Irish, and Scottish immigrants.

Our goal in the 1950 WC upset of England was scored by Joe Gaetjens who was from Haiti.

We had like 4-5 dual citizens on our 1990 WC team that re-established THE US's intent to become a soccer-loving nation in its first WC in over 30+ years.

This is nothing new gents, let it go.
rep'd

the article I posted mainly highlighted the programs' jumpoff point to go after duel-national youth players like Green, Mix, or JAB. Which, IMO, is a little bit different than what we had been doing 2 decades ago (unless I am mistaken, my bad

)

I am looking forward to the 2016 Olympic squad.

Coming to camp fat and out of shape. Then complaining about not being able to train well and making excuses for his poor performances.

Yeah what a leader.

Team is better off without his diva tendencies, laziness, and lack of commitment

What are you talking about. I saw him sunday and he and Bradley were the first ones out there practicing. Fans i met outside also said he was doing well and looked great the previous days. I will say he is a Diva but he has earned it...produces when it matter and on the world stage...oh well i guess this humbles him.
