I dont follow soccer so sorry if this is a stupid question but why doesnt MLS suspend play during the world cup like the NHL does for the olympics seeing as how the teams are without their best players?
MLS takes a two week break.
The way I see it, in the grand scheme of things the MLS only has a handful of players on the USMNT squad, while the NHL is THE
league for hockey which has stars that are headliners for nations squads all over. The NHL suffers tons more under the same circumstances while the MLS doesn't.
And in this country, since soccer is so behind the other major sports, the public catches "soccer fever" and wants more of it, so it wouldn't make much sense for the league to shut down and not seize on the additional publicity and dollars.
