**Official USMNT Soccer Thread**

can someone explain to me the tifo?

The world cup trophy is the new "american dream".

The American dream is the whole "if you work hard in enough you will have money, cars, a nice house, and life".

it looked more like a turkey leg to me though

Think green choosing us over Germany was decided because we promised him a spot on this team...

It's a gamble but if he ends up improving he can be a huge asset in years to come....I know it's about now but sometimes you gotta do these kind of things...especially for a soccer country like the USA...we ain't Spain

The world cup should never be used for "experience". There are u-23 world cups, Olympics, World Cup Qualifiers, Gold Cups, and friendlies that every other player goes through to earn their spots. The World Cup is about taking your absolute best "proven" players and competing against the world.

Most of the young successful world cup players were already getting quality playing time with their clubs and national teams. In this case Green is far from that. Also, there are many young players in our history who have shown "promise" as youngsters who never evolved into what we expected (Adu and Spector come to mind). This whole situation is pretty ****** up imo and I feel this could hurt Green more than help him.

Another thing that came to mind... Klinsmann made the cut early because he knew he wouldn't be able to justify leaving LD once everyone got a chance to play in these friendlies. After watching the performances from some of our players the last two games, you cannot convince LD would've stunk it up worst.

Why are still people talking about Donovan? It's over & done with. Let's move on. A lot of noobs in here talking like the sky is falling despite 2 wins. 2 wins despite looking somewhat shaky here & there. We beat a very solid attack minded Turkey team that has world class players playing on top teams in Europe.

I wonder if people are making these Donovan observations because his recent scoring because scoring in MLS is not the same thing, not by a loooong shot especially considering Donovan's lack of form prior to the cut. It's sad that Donovan needed this to motivate him to play better. :smh: If he had half the drive & tenacity of his Galaxy teammate Keane, there Donovan would've made the squad.

Green looks, a little green on the pitch. He probably won't see too much time in Brazil unless there is a rash of injuries. That said, I'd like to see Green get a start & play some major minutes against Nigeria. That would be a great test. Green just needs to find his confidence & he'll be fine.

Bottom line is if Klinsmann & his staff thinks Green is good enough to be on the 23, than that's good enough for me because given his tenure so far, I trust him more than some wannabe pundits that show up in here on a part time basis. :D :rolleyes

As for the rest of the team, it was a satisfactory performance. Individually, there were flaws especially on defense but collectively the team got the job done. If someone messed up, there was another guy on the pitch that was able to cover.

Jozy was really active yesterday, but damn he looked awkward trying to finish. It looks like he's thinking too much.

Chandler looked bad. He didn't look comfortable at left back.

Jermaine Jones continues to look bad playing the back end of Klinsmann's diamond. He's got the technical skills & speed to play the role of clean up back there but it looks like he doesn't want to or doesn't like to.

Conversely, Beckerman looks comfortable in that role & is doing it well.

I liked what I saw from Zusi too.

Can't wait for Nigeria... Top 5 African team. Will be a great test.

Great pics ijumpmani ijumpmani !

Highlights from yesterday's friendly. Also individual highlights of each of the 2 goals.

Looks like USA soccer is some new showcases on each play on the MNT. Trailer below & verbiage describing the series.

"One Nation. One Team. 23 Stories." is a ussoccer.com video series with the players from the U.S. Men's National Team. As the MNT prepares to head to Brazil for the 2014 FIFA World Cup, "One Nation. One Team. 23 Stories" showcases the players off the field as they talk about family, friends, moments from their lives that helped shape them and make them a part of the 2014 World Cup squad.

Friendlies aren't about results, they're about assessing performance. Did you not see how many times the Turkey offense weaved through the left side of our defense and how many times they DIDN'T take a shot at a clear goal? Those stupid mistakes (ala Reyna vs Ghana, Clark vs Ghana) get penalized HARD in World Cups.

You talk about Donovan's form before the training but Jozy and Dempsey were in horrible form themselves the last year and they are still on the team. Both didn't score **** with their clubs or country for the longest. But Donovan was held to a different standard... ok.

Only noobs get excited about wins in friendlies or even take the score into consideration. We were outshot 23 to 8, outpossesed almost 60% to 40% and had 28 more "clearances" than them the whole game. I hate using stats in soccer but its clear as light that we were outplayed yesterday.

You said it yourself, we played shaky. There is little chemistry amongst our team because they haven't played together long enough to understand their tendencies. I don't even think JK knows what his starting 11 is yet and we're one game away.

The one thing Arena and Bradley did well was they had a SOLID 7-9 players who consistently started our games and knew their roles. Every player off the bench understood their roles. JK is playing players in positions they aren't comfortable in (Chandler, Jones, even Bradley and Donovan) and is making the "fight" for it each game amongst each other to see who gets rewarded with a start. In the end we get inconsistent starting lineups and bad performances from players out of position.

 @ Arena & Bradley talk... They could only depend on 7-9 players... Completely different era. @ people still longing for Donovan... It's not relative anymore.

New era, new players. Let us move forward.

Way to ignore everything else buddy...

Give me your 7 dependable players under Klinsmann. Eager to see the list.

You don't get it... A new era, new players. No one's really established themselves as dependable yet outside of maybe Howard (really all the goal keepers) & Bradley.

You & others can't seem to embrace that. Embrace the change... It's here... The team is moving forward. Do or die in Brazil.

Lol. You have no substance to your arguments but "in Klinsmann we trust" and "embrace change". You're a puppet.

Klinsy has had almost 4 years to establish his "new era" and "new players" for THIS World Cup. How is it excusable to not have at least 5 solid players on the roster? There isn't any excuse. However I'm done going back and forth with you. You have no substance to back any of your arguments up and are just ignoring everything else I'm saying.

Bradley
Donovan
Dempsey
Bocanegra
Howard
Gooch
Edu
Even Jozy IMO

Off the top of my head. There was no debate on "If" some of those players should be starting.

i mean if your issue is with not having a dependable 5 or 7 to start, i get it. you're right about that. granted, that group of 5 or 7 didn't really do anything spectacular outside of escaping (barely) the group. but i get your point. for me, i'm OK with Klinnsy trying to change things up a bit. obviously, wish he had established some semblance of a regular lineup by now, especially on the back line. but i am 100% OK with dropping LD, though. i don't see how or why carrying him as a sub would help. i don't believe he adds a spark coming off the bench and there are others i would rather see come on late in a game.

but let's see how it plays out. i do think the draw we got has given Klinnsy some leeway to try this approach. not saying it's right or wrong...but let's give it a shot and see how it goes.

Lord this dude gonna be complaining during the whole WC... Donovan, Donovan, Donovan... Arena, Arena. Arena... I can't believe people are longing for the days of Arena & Bradley... :rolleyes

Puppet indeed... Cheers fella, cheers...

Edit - Not a big fan of Rancid but drummer Branden Steineckert penned a catching song for Real Salt Lake. He's now penned this little ditty for the US March to Brazil.

Lyrics-
HERE WE STAND UNITED
WE'LL NEVER BE DIVIDED
FIGHT AND SING FOR VICTORY
FOR EVERY GENERATION
WHO REPRESENT OUR NATION
AND BATTLE FOR THE USA

HERE WE ARE, WE ARE
UNITED STATES
AND WE ALL, WE ALL
CAN CELEBRATE
THAT WE ARE, WE ARE
UNITED STATES
AND WE'RE PROUD TO BE THE USA

Jesus these Donovan Stan's are annoying

Let it go....really might opt to enjoy these games from my crib cause I don't feel like encountering these Stan's in person...it'll sour the moment

That's cool to hear Venom... I'll rep you when my limit expires. Did you go with the home or away? Did you get a name set? If so which one?

My wife has barred me from getting more shirts for our son as he has 14 now.

Might try & sneak this one after the WC if it goes on sale. Love the American Outlaws patches on the sleeves, especially on a kids shirt.

If I do, I'll get him either Julian Green or Mix Diskerud's name set.

Last day of the WSS sale..... need to place my order... still can't decide which jersey/what nameset to get
