**Official USMNT Soccer Thread**

As an El Tri supporter I tip my sombrero to you guys. Definitely exceeded my expectations. Very athletic team with high work-rate and I was surprised with the quality of shots taken. JJ's cracker left me speechless. I woke up 2-3 times in the middle of the night thinking about that game. I know you all have been pinpointing and breaking it down but sometimes I believe that's just the way football goes. Giving the ball away 50 yards away from goal to have it go to the best player in the world on the wing for a peach of a cross... you just have to let it be sometimes.

I hope you will send us good vibes today vs Croatia. We in this together now.

I started to get into soccer when I got a tip from a friend to buy FIFA10 for my Xbox 360, that was one of the best decisions I've ever made.

I feel a connection to this team similar to my A's, Warriors, and 49ers feels. Especially with how all my teams have been getting so close in the playoffs and coming up short for different reasons.

Welcome aboard. Now lets beat Germania :smokin

You can't let it go because that is how the U.S. will be eliminated 2 world cups in a row if they get taken out in the next game. They have to make teams work for their goals instead of gifting them. Both goals were gifts in this game.

Good vibes man. I always root for Mexico when they're not playing the US.

Rather win a World Cup than a Super Bowl. USMNT causes me as much stress as the seahawks.

Special kudos to Fabian Johnson. Impressed me with his surging runs without getting caught out defensively, all while picking out the right ball in the final third.

Also got my eye on Yedlin's pace and defensive responsibility moving forward.

US National team has that laid back attitude after being up in a match. Not many times do you see the team continue to attack after scoring a goal. Every other team attacks even if they're up 2-0+. Example Netherlands was up 5-0 and continued to pound on Spain. Even when Bob Bradley was coach this still was an issue. Someone needs to light a fire in their behinds.

Fabian Johnson did the business yesterday. So did Yedlin. Cameron had a decent game too but two costly mistakes will dirty that.

If we make it out, I'd rather qualify in 2nd place and this is why...

History has shown us how valuable an extra days rest could be in the knockout stages, especially for teams who have to go balls out all 3 games just to get out.

First place in our group would mean having to travel all the way down to Porto Alegre. That is a 4 hour flight, about 3800 km, from Recife and it is the southern-most host city in this tournament. Also, first place of our group has to play on Monday, 3 DAYS REST!

Second place travels to Salvador, a one hour flight, and an extra days rest. Sure we play a higher ranked team like Belgium, but I'm more comfortable playing the biggest dog in the tourney well rested than playing fatigued vs the weakest team.

Everyone in Group H will play their final games on the south side of Brazil so the 2nd place team of that group would only be traveling about an hour to Porto Alegre to face the winner of our group. The first place team in group H would have to fly up to Salvador to play the 2nd place in our group.

Now this can mean nothing in the big picture but personally I think this could be the difference on whether we stay or go in this WC if we make it to RO 16. I know we would've beat Ghana in 2010 if we had an extra days rest. We had the perfect bracket for us to make a run, but what good was that when we didn't have enough legs left for it? The same situation has come up this WC with everyone wanting the Russia/France path to the semis. Give me Belgium then Argentina with more rest and less travel please.

Getting first place in this group would be nice for various bragging rights and a weaker RO 16 opponent theoretically, but what good is a weaker opponent if we won't have gas in the tank to take them out? We already have traveled an insane amount of miles, I think another 4,000 would be brutal.

What do yal think?

^ interesting perspective. makes sense given the rest and travel. i think more than the miles is the rest. an extra day helps the legs big time.

it's good to also look at how big the drop off is between Belgium and Russia/Algeria. it's decent, obviously, but not out of this world. we're not talking asking for a France or Netherlands here. so i'm sort of with your idea there. plus, i trust our guys to get up for a tougher matchup than one in which they would be favored (even if only slightly favored)

Depends how intense the Germans play Thursday. I still dont want to play Belgium at all. Their size and starpower on paper is hard to swallow [nh]

One days rest could go both ways...wouldnt the other team be rested the same as us?

This team has been managed to be in top shape. When the US makes it to the knock out stages, I think the team will have a mental edge as a result of coming out of the "Group Of Death" (in addition to be physically fit). They've shown remarkable resiliency & character so I think they team will show out against whoever they play. I also think the travel would be harder for a Euro team than for the US.

I wonder how Klinsmann will line up for Germany? Think he'll stay with what he's been using, go defensively, or try to attack?

Ghana had a lot of success going at Germany by constantly pressuring the attacking & middle thirds of the pitch with their speed & physicality. We don't have their speed but we can match Ghana's physicality.

I think he sticks with the Portugal lineup. I wouldn't mind seeing Brooks pair with Besler, though.

I would line up like the previous 2 games. They played well. Don't change a thing. I don't know, but I have a good feeling about this game. We have shown that we can play with anyone. If I am the bigger teams, I don't want to face this US team. We look dangerous :smoking :smoking

I'd be very surprised if Bedoya starts. He's run himself past exhaustion twice in 7 days. I'd say the same about Jones but he's a man on a mission right now. Would be very interested to see the distance covered statistics for the tournament, Bradley has probably run more than any of them. Either way there's no way we seen an identical line up. At this point it's more about emotional and mental fatigue than physical fitness in most cases. You go out there and get a result with the same XI and you risk going into the Round of 16 with zero left in the tank just a few days later. I think JK has done a fantastic job managing tactics and personnel the past six weeks but this is where the critics of his roster selection have a valid point. We need depth in the worst way right now. Brad Davis is a waste of a roster spot. If Green doesn't see the field he might be a wasted spot too.

Oh and I told y'all Yedlin could get us a result in the 70th min running at tired legs. :pimp:

I was amazed how well he recovered from a poor clearance that led to Nani's goal. Then in stoppage time, poor marking on Varela's game-tying header.
