**Official USMNT Soccer Thread**

Hella nervous just looking over all the possible scenarios. Deep down I think we're going to advance but I wish Portugal had a more realistic shot at advancing so that game could stay close. My fear is they concede early and just tank the rest of the game.

On the other hand, an early 3-0 lead for Ghana might just strike some fear into both the US and Germany and maybe they can just draw it out lol.

Funny seeing all the people hating on our situation regarding both teams needing a draw to advance. If you don't like being in that position, beat us. Portugal and Ghana each had a shot to take points off of us. We've earned our privilege to be in this position and we're getting treated like crooks for it :smh:

No one wants to see the US advance cause they feel like we don't care about soccer so we don't "deserve it".

:rolleyes

yeah. completely ridiculous. that whole view of the US not caring about soccer has some merit, but is vastly exaggerated IMO. eff them though...we in this :pimp:

getting nervous for tomorrow. as mentioned, not only our game, but also the other game to keep an eye on. let's go :pimp:

why don't people want to see the USMNT be great?

Saw the Olbermann show for about 5 minutes today (my first time ever). Either dude is a master troll or he is ignorant as ****. I hadn't heard that type of stereotypical anti-soccer rant in a while from any professional sports journalist. Dude rustled my jimmies. I mean even Jim Rome has been talking soccer. As much as he hates it, he acknowledges the audience for it and gives it airtime.

Yal see Lincecum rocking the US authentic after his no hitter today? :pimp:

That's a big step, getting all the other athletes all in for this.

We need to get to the round of 16 and make it deep.

Issue is you get new eyes for the World Cup, because it's a country thing and it's us vs the world.

But after that interest slowly fades.

If only the WC was every 2 years.

True but there will always be a small fraction of fans who will start to follow the US after the WC and become soccer fans in general. The WC is the ultimate soccer drug and people get hooked. After the Brazil-Mex and US-Portugal game I had plenty of my non soccer fan coworkers tell me they finally "understand' why soccer gets people hooked.

Just like the Super Bowl, a lot of these world cup viewers have no clue what's going on, how we got here, and who our players are. Its an event and people are going to watch but thats better than no one watching. Some of that sponsorship money goes back to the USMNT.

I remember back in 02 feeling like I was the only USA fan in the city lol. I had gone to USA gold cup matches with my pops in 96 and 98 as a kid but soccer wasn't mainstream and it was hard to catch US matches on tv. That 02 WC got me hooked though. That feeling of knocking off Mexico where it matters most at 1 am is priceless.

I only started watching non-World Cup soccer a few years after the 2010 WC. The first World Cup I remember was '98 when the U.S. finished dead last (

) and I've been watching since.

Recife is apparently getting buckets of rain right now. Odds for a terribly boring 0-0 draw are on the up!

Not if you can't move the ball at all. Reports/pictures on Twitter of 2 feet of water in the streets of Recife. Nothing on the stadium, but I can't imagine they've installed the highest quality drainage systems.

For me it's just hard to get in to club soccer. But the stakes for the World Cup/national team play make it the greatest sporting event in the world.

Agent @RichardMotzkin tells ESPN US team family/friends have decided not to attempt trip to stadium. Too treacherous.
