thats the key word...after. Reebok did it first so they have first dibs on a patent. It doesnt matter when nike issued a shoe with a pump system, if it was after Reebok initially did it, they would lose in court. If I remember correctly, Nike and Reebok were in a bitter advertising war in the early 90's trying to sway the public on which company had the better pump technology. Reebok probably figured that Nike would eventually retro these due to their popularity so they probably filed the patent to prevent a true retro and tell the public that if they want any pump technology in their sneakers, then they would have to come to Reebok.

Patents don't work on the "dibs" principal..And it does matter when Nike made theirs..They did one, the Pressure, and then a couple years later did Mr. Robinson's versions..So if Nike was worried about getting sued in court then why would they try to file their own patent and produce pump technology in several different years?..And you really think that Reebok thought Nike would retro these shoes a good 10 years before retro's even started?..Sorry buddy but that makes no sense whatsoever..

First I would like to say this, if anyone would have dibs on the pump technology it would be the estate of Fillmore Moore who created the Pneumatic insole (check out the patents below and read more about it here--------> http://www.defynewyork.co...matic-insole-1893/  )

but to sum it up he created the first inflatable shoe (or portion of a shoe) and is cited as such for Reebok's pump technology you can read that here ------> http://www.google.com/pat...i=bI0jT6W_McX20gGevpj5CA

Second, if Nike couldn't use the pump technology then why can Tecnica use a pump device in their ski boot? (check out the vid below at about 1:25)

http://www.youtube.com/wa...;feature=player_embedded

I'm not saying there isn't an issue with them using the technology but you really have to wonder if this was truly the case and not just a way to be lazy with the release either way the look of the shoe is not sitting right with me at all.

I can see Nike just being Lazy and halfway doing this and chalking it up to patent laws.To say we have Ewings dropping you would think Nike would do more for their rival big mans shoe. Its just seems like didn't try hard enough .I expected more from Nike on this shoe. This shoe is iconic of anera was at the height of one of the greatest rivalries in sports and sneaker history.Nike is doing itself,Us and The Admiral a disservice .We just wanted the shoe to be true to the original you all made it this far and you all couldn't give us 100 percent.Nike is home to some of the most innovative designers in the world you mean to tell me these guys couldn't fix this shoe up properly.

I'm not buying the patent argument. Please correct me if I'm wrong but a patent protects someone from stealing your technology/invention and duplicating it for profit. I could undestand if Nike stole Reebok's Pump design, however, they are different. That's like Playstation patenting their console and Microsoft not being able to make the Xbox. Serves the same purpose, just differently.

“the right to exclude others from making, using, offering for sale, or selling

NIKE DROPPED THE BALL, this is DEFINALTLY NOT because of a patent, its because they didn't want to do all that work. guaranteed !!!

Why are some of you all saying these would be $200 + if when they drop
indifferent.gif
????? There just some high top Nikes with a pump system that Reebok has been making forever
indifferent.gif
And yes David Robinson use to wear them blah blah blah but there not a pair of Jordans, Lebrons, Foamposites, or Yeezys which are the only Nikes that are over $200 right now. And to put these in the same category as any of those shoes I just listed doesn't even make sense
laugh.gif
.  If these shoes are anything over $140 there's a problem
roll.gif
but I might get a pair if they come out in one of the more slacker shoe release months this year.

agreed. not to start a war, but this dude has a history of posting a lot of misinformation. "Reebok probably figured that Nike would eventually retro these due to their popularity so they probably filed the patent to prevent a true retro..." c'mon man.

Funny how there were Sneaker/Shoe heads back then. If that is the case also include Hyperbeasts, and Resellers. You know one can't live without the other.

Seems like its possible for Nike to do it they just have to cite Reebok which they wont do out of pride

this isnt the place for that.
its just funny that people beg for years for Nike to retro this shoe and when they do, they just complain that it isn't the same as they remembered. no matter what Nike does, people will still complain.

Retro the shoe with no Pump and people complain about it.

Retro the shoe with the Pump and people will get mad that Nike is charging $225 for something that used to cost $135 AND complain about the leather quality.

Retro the shoe with near OG quality and people will complain that the design is TOO out there and will rot on outlet shelves (see Air Carnivores)

Point of the matter is to stop complaining and be thankful for what you do get. god knows when Nike will release another hi-top retro.

You make it sound like we're starving children talking about food

I'm sorry, I definitely can't cosign this statement.  If people don't complain things don't change.  You don't wait around 20+ years for a shoe to release only to settle on a crappy version.  As I stated earlier, they could do away with the actual function of the pump (which we still don't know the real reason it was left off) but they should have kept it visually the same.  In all honesty, this isn't the same shoe anymore so you almost can't call it a 180 pump retro.

I can understand this, but sometimes if you're patient something good will come out of a situation. I mean, look how many crappy colorways of the SC Trainer II before we got the good ones
side note: are you part of the OSD crew? I know quite a few members (paper chaser, feeway, chadio, rox, and mysoletokeep) and they're always fun to kick it with.

Come on bro, I believe the shoe retailed at $150 when it first released it has to be up there with that list of yours I believe it was the most expensive shoe at that Nike ever released at that time. Lol.

why should I pm you? Man up? Are you serious? You want to set up a meet up so we can fight about shoes?
laugh.gif
I'm simply pointing out the fact that you like to post things that are obviously made up falsehoods on various occasions. You blame the older heads for not teaching the younger kids about quality thus the reason for the poor quality that we have now. You tell everyone to stop complaining about quality, but then say you don't care because you get the shoes half off anyways....
This is a shoe discussion site, you can post whatever you want(I usually just ignore it), but please stop telling people who want Nike to produce a better product to stop complaining just because you're fine with crappy quality. PS PM sent.

you say this and yet you STILL PM me, the irony
laugh.gif
you want Nike to produce a better product? thats fine and I can agree with that. but boycott their product and get in direct contact with them to voice your issue. don't just go on a rant and complain about things used to be. you did the same thing with the white cement IVs.
everyone is entitled to their own opinion and mine is that I like the way that these came out. are they perfect? no, not in the least. but im not going to track down a OG pair simply to stare at. there's no need to throw subliminals based on what I think and what I've heard from several people.

God willing if we all cry enough they will do the right thing

I'm down with the OSD crew,  are you on the Facebook page?  Its funny, I touched bases with Paper back in 2007 and in 2008 my sister met her future husband that had worked with him while he was at MTV.  He started telling me about his friend that was heavily into shoes and I'm like whats his name?  Winds up being Paper lol what  a small small world

^^^I'm with you on that, the design is just way to off to convince myself these are even close to the same shoe. Nike should do the right thing and release them with the pump (regardless of its functional or not)

you think Nike is doing this release to test the popularity of this shoe? maybe if these sell well enough then Nike will produce the pump version next year.

I guess anything is possible, but IMO I think boutique owners need to rally behind this. If enough stores voice their opinion regarding at the very least the original design (never mind an even functional pump) then the likely hood of them coming back in OG form could increase.

I agree. Who knows, maybe the positive sales of these in conjunction with people complaining about the lack of a pump system will push Nike to do these and the Command Forces justice and release them the proper way. It worked after Nike released those god awful SC Trainer IIs with the vulcanized sole.

Dude F these half *%@ retros! It's pump or bust, literally. Would you buy a pair of Reebok Pumps without the pump, eventhough they looked close? Thats like buying Air Max 95s without the bubble.....Come On Man!!
