noticed that during yesterday's match between barca and ac milan at camp nou (which was an unofficial testimonal match for ronaldinho), the guest of honor wore different boots in the second half....

pretty stoked that he came out in a pair of the ronaldinho dois

but then switched to what looks like the non-elite version of the tiempos that use real kangaroo instead of synthetic leather for the second half

and then gave them to a [lucky] fan after the match (final score was 1-1, barca won on PKs)

Are cleats really that expensive now? The last time I purchased a pair of cleats and didn't get them for free was 97-98 when the all white preds dropped right before the World Cup and I think those ran me $150.

$300? What part of the game is that?!

zizou trained with the france squad on wednesday (1 sep), wearing a pair of preds that match the 'lame duck' adidas france kit perfectly....

I was under the impression he wanted nothing to do with the national team anymore? personal politics and what not.

I am waiting for him to take over at Real or Algeria's national team considering his families ethnic background.

who knows maybe he even comes out of retirement after the crap showing france had lol.

i think you're right about zidane not wanting anything to do with the team, it's just that a big change that has happened with the french side in that laurent blanc (who won the world cup in '98 with zidane) has taken over as manager from raymond domenech, who basically everybody hated.... blanc's done a lot to try to change the attitude of the team, i heard a report that he demanded that all the players sing the anthem before yesterday's qualifier vs belarus - and even handed out copies of the lyrics so that the players had no excuse. that being said, they lost 1-0 in paris (no ribery, benzema, evra or gourcuff). obviously that's unacceptable, especially after a legend like zidane goes out of his way to train with the guys.

the new nike5 line (indoor/street) just debuted.... i picked up the elastico finales. this is the only colorway thus far, and it's even brighter in person than in the pic!

a4336f77591b2da27d898943cff97d16eac892a8.pjpg

unlike the T-7s (nike's top of the line indoor shoe from F09), there's no zoomair - which is probably why MSRP is ~$20 less (the finales are $100). that's a negative. however, swapping insoles fixes that. they're slightly lighter than the T-7s. the finales use kangalite, which some people hate and others love (i love it!). the sole is less 'gummy' than the T-7, and there's less surface area (the T-7s are exxxxxtremely flatfooted with zero arch support - which is something i love).

i don't quite understand the placement of the T90-like fins.... i would've brought them higher on the upper. the dots in the design are imprinted into the (fake) leather, and give you a little more swerve. i just need a new CW; these are a little too gaudy for me.

overall, i'd say the T-7 is a better shoe. however, kangalite and changing insoles makes the elasticos almost equal.

last year's T-7 for comparison sake (it used real kangaroo)....

Can you guys recommend indoors for me that wont kill my feet and wont have me rolling my ankle 3x in a 10-minute span (like what happened to me this past winter).

I played in these shoes and they were absolute junk...

Keep in mind that I'm flat footed and usually play on gym floors. Thanks for any suggestions.

^ I don't have an answer but was wondering... are there football shoes/boots that even offer "ankle support"?
Anyway, new Ronny for the Vapor VI... not feelin the safari print. Tinker making a cameo was cool though.

And some pics from SneakerNews.

i know that with ankle issues, the first thought is to use a higher upper or some sort of brace. that's true, but i think especially with indoor soccer shoes the sole also needs to be considered. with the 90s that you're wearing, the edge of the outsole is really sharp - once you roll past 45 degrees, the edge forces it to go the full 90 degrees. that's when you'll hear the pop! if you check out the soles on a 'better' indoor shoe, the chassis of the shoe is a lot more low-profile, and the edge of the outsole is rounded. this way, you don't violently 'fall off' the edge when moving laterally. i don't think i explained that too well, so here are some pics....

the 90s, with a more traditional edge....

of course, one of the best things you can do is make sure you're wearing the right size for you! hope that helps.

^ Yeah thats the thing... like with the Kobe V's, they use that "wedge" or outrigger for lateral support without having to go to a higher cut, but with football shoes, I don't think I've ever seen one with a wedge to prevent roll-over. And obviously there will never be a high-top boot. So I guess, stretch out your ankles to prevent injury?

mercurial vapor superfly II safari CR7 (i'm not sure if that's the 'official' model name; different websites put it in different order - looks like there are cheaper versions than the superflys coming out as well).... aka cronaldo's jumpoffs. it'll be interesting to see how many other footballers show up wearing these. not exactly my cup of tea, but hey....

^note that cronaldo doesn't wear the plate with the articulating stud; he has his superfly PEs customized with the regular mercurial plate.

Safari print... meh.
Players were willing to wear the "Pink Panther", so who knows.

Anyway, Tinker's input.

what's next?cement print?what a load of rubbish...

(Puma v1.10 Lightning SL Yellow/Green/Heather/Black)

OUT OF MANY, ONE PEOPLE

Inspired by Usain Bolt, emblazoned in the black, green and gold of his beloved Jamaica and weighing in at an unbelievable 150g, this limited edition boot feels like it belongs on the track rather than the pitch!

Engineered for lighter movement and quicker strikes, built for players like Samuel Eto'o who epitomize speed and spontaneity, the Puma v1.10 SL Lightning is the lightest football boot in the world.

The lightweight Pebax[emoji]174[/emoji] frame constitutes the outsole base, in which a carbon fiber composite insert enhances speed and stability. The forefoot stud configuration ensures smooth ground penetration as well as optimal manoeuvrability and traction.

The minimalist external heel counter provides protection from external forces and supports the heel and ankle during sudden direction changes. The rear stud configuration is designed and positioned to support natural running movement.

The PUMA AptoLast conforms to the foot’s natural curvatures and provides a glove-like fit that allows the upper to perfectly mould to the player’s foot. The upper utilizes a super soft and ultrathin high-performance microfiber material with a unique anodized finishing and ensures an unprecedented ball touch.

As Usain Bolt himself might say, in these boots, "who faster?"
