🎾 Official Nike Tennis (and other brands as well) Thread

Ok, now that Wimbledon and the French have come and gone, I must say I am ready for the US OPEN.  More importantly, on a shoe note, I am super stoked for the volt/neon black colorway of the 2.3!  Those are amazing, and for some reason, the french version with the neon splatter is already very difficult to locate.  I believe NT's blew them out for like 70.00 or so and perhaps thats why they are all gone.  Who is scooping these up?, or were they relatively limited to begin with?  Any info from SinnerP, and the rest of you tennis heads would be awesome.  Lets get this thread moving once again with US Open just around the corner.

Didn't expect to see this thread resurrected... Lol.

As far as I know, the RG 2.3's are a general release... they're still available on...

Assuming they keep their website stock updated.
We still have em here in Asia too.

CounterKicks also had some more volt 2.3 pics a while back...

yeah.  I ended up getting some R.G 2.3s from Tennis Warehouse for about 90 shipped.  Would have preferred the 69.99 price tag from NT but that was almost too good to be true.  As far as the U.S.O 2.3's, is it just me or if these were a diff. sig. athlete such as an American tennis phenom, would they not be very highly sought after?  I mean the volt pops huge and the Faux "carbon" fiberesque detail in the swoosh and back of the shoe are sweet!  Maybe I am just impressed with some of the color blocking and use of different textures and prints with this year's tennis stuff, since the last few have been pretty boring.  I mean the French 1.3s and the Vapor 3s in university blue were very impressive, but other than that not much really comes to mind before this years releases and colorways.  Just my opinion.  Feel free to agree/disagree and keep this thread going!  Thanks to SinnerP for dropping some fresh pics.

I didn't know they were down to $70 on NDC.  Thats a steal, so its no surprised they're gone already, I suppose.  Still, $90 ain't bad.
I don't think it really has much to do with whether the player is American or European or whatever, Nike has always went with one conservative line and one flashy line.  It was the same back then with Andre and Pete, and its pretty similar now with Fed and Rafa.  There are always gonna be a group that like the colors and a group that prefer the all-whites.  If anything, I think they've actually toned down Fed's colors.  He used to wear brighter colors (remember he had a this bright green shirt at the Aussie Open several years back).  If you've seen the 2011 Vapor VIII's, Nike's gone with more vibrant colors, so it should be interesting.  http://counterkicks.com/2010/07/08/...our-roger-federer-signature-shoe-spring-2011/

Having said that, I'm not impressed with the Ballistec 3.3's. http://counterkicks.com/2010/06/15/exclusive-nike-air-max-courtballistec-3-3-spring-2011-preview/

As for the volts, I like the bright colors, but feel the blocking coulda been better.  80% of the upper is volt, which for me, is excessive.  The carbon-weave on the Swoosh and heel was a nice touch though.  I also personally prefer a white midsole, but thats just me.

Digging the Rafa graphic tees.  I might break down and get one and the hat to match.  I wonder when we'll start seeing the all volt colorway on the big websites. I saw some on ebay for 2 hundy a few days ago.  Pretty silly IMO.  I would think these should be fairly easy to get unless they are limited to USopen location?  Also, SinnerP, do you have any insight as to where the French 1.2 colorway from last year can be had other than an occasional Ebay sighting? These were somewhat slept on by myself and now curious if they are obtainable for a reasonable price?

^ I think the volt 2.3's will be a GR.  I know the US Open one year sold an exclusive Federer Vapor, but if I remember correctly, the only difference was the RF logo (though I could be wrong).  Anyway, I don't think you'll have trouble getting the volts.
Are you referring to the blue/pink 2.3's Rafa was SUPPOSED to wear in the semis, but didn't even reach that far?  I think ebay's your best shot since they were relatively limited back then.  I think they were produced in limited numbers but didn't "fly off the shelves" cuz, frankly, tennis shoes don't sell well.  TennisWarehouse had an FSR, but were all gone after a few days.

Yeah, those are the ones.  They were "limited" but definitely hung around for awhile, because they were almost "awkward" looking.  I forgot that Rafa got bounced that year.  I am contemplating the volts or even another pair of heavily discounted neptune blues/cool greys/ white GR.  I have yet to wear these for tennis, but they seem very comfortable off court and just for everyday wear.  Very locked down much like the kobe 5s for basketball.  I am also curious how the trainer 1.2s will be for casual tennis wear.  I used to always wear the original trainer 1 and trainer 3 for tennis, and absolutely loved the way the felt.

I'm not sure Nike has elite tennis socks.  According to Midwest sports, it appears to be your standard Pro Compression Training sock.

The other is the standard dri-fit sock...

Both are $8.

Brys, the AT1's and AT3's sorta work for tennis cuz they have a big ol toeguard.  Still, no guarantees that they'll last.  As for the current trainers, this applies to the 1.2's cuz they have a toeguard too.  But forget the Fuse Trainers.  I think they're too light and the Fuse-mesh is too thin to offer any durability.  Don't use the TR1's as well.  That free sole will be eaten up.

Nike Air Max Breathe 2K10 McEnroe Tennis Shoes Mens 386476-004

I don't know what makes these "McEnroe", other than the checkered tongue...

Those Breathe 2K10's look great. I'm looking forward to grabbing a pair of those. The insole also has a bunch of McEnroe quotes. The colorway doesn't scream McEnroe to me, but it is the least boring 2K10 so far.
I really like those white/Hot lime 2.3's. I'm just hesitant on trying them because they seem so heavy. Maybe that colorway will get me to finally try them out.

Yeah,  They most definitely aren't light but the 2.3s do feel better on my feet than I would think, from just looking at them.  The Breathe 2K10s seem to be very highly regarded by those who have worn them for tennis, and may in fact be the best performing shoe of the bunch.  I too may break down and pick some of those up- would like to think at least one if not 2 of these 4 releases could be had down the road for discounted prices.  Between WBF releases, trainer 1.2s, and US Open tennis releases, I very well may just have to start donating blood, plasma, and sperm.

*ahem* Keep your bodily fluids to yourself bro... haha.
Anyway, this is interesting... Mcenroe-line of clothing includes a bandana.

There are your F*#! quotes.

Shoe-performance wise, the 2K10's are definitely top-notch.

P, ended up picking up those vapor lunar RF in the white and teal cw for 79 shipped from MWS. Thanks homie!

That pair actually has the RF on the heel and or tongue right?  Have you worn them much or just for collection purposes?  I don't love the bandana but I do like the Mac shoes and the Aces shirt thats also on Midwest Sports.  Can't imagine it will be too long before its all up on NDC as well.  Good looks guys on the Tennis thread.  Lets keep it rolling.  P, would be interested to see some pics of your tennis related stuff when you have time.  I wish I had kept more of my old stuff.  Agassis, Couriers, Adidas Lendl,Edberg torsions, etc...I let my cousin have most of it once I moved off to college, and I remember him commenting on those "Shamu" looking White/Teal/Splattered Air Tech Challenges. that came out in the 92-93 time frame.  Some of my absolute favorites!

The RF logo from what the pics show seems to show it only on the heel tab. I haven't worn the lunar foam versions and yes I'll actually wear them on court. I was rated a 4.5-5.0 about 8 years ago but I got married and played recreationally off and on. I'm planning to  get my referee certification, which shouldn't be too hard. So if you see a linesman or court ref with "heat" in a major in the future, who knows?

That's what I keep hearing about the 2K10's. The original Breathe Free II's are my favorite tennis shoe from the last ten years. I still have one pair left in playing condition. I don't know why it's taken me 7 months to give the 2K10's a go. I keep hearing that they in fact are very close to the BFII, minus the Air Max heel. Looking forward to them.

Fred ~ Good deal on the Vapors... Are you gonna get the Ballistecs too?  The white/hot limes are pretty nice and would be my colorway of choice among the current models.

Wow, didn't know you played at such a high/competitive level.  Played in college?  I don't live in the US so I can't grade myself, but I suppose I'm a 4.0... more or less... usually less. Lol.  Do you need to be a linesperson first before you evolve to being a ref?  And what kind of tournaments would you do?  Pls keep me updated on how it goes... fascinating stuff.

Brys ~ I play once or twice a week, but I don't have/wear a lot of the Nike tennis stuff... just a tee and trackpants (I play at night).  To be honest, I don't really like any of the main Nike Tennis stuff nowadays.  For one, the Fed/Rafa European fit is too snug for my liking.  Even the McEnroe shirts run small.  I like my shirts with a bit more room.  I had a lot of Nike Agassi stuff back in the day, but don't anymore.  I posted some pics of my Agassi stuff in the Agassi-thread in the Showcase Forum... check it out there.

And to the both of you... what kind of gear do you guys use?  I'm old-school... for the last 13+ years, I've been using my Prince original Graphite.  A few years ago, Tennis Warehouse retroed the Donnay Pro-One (Agassi pre-1992, which I also had back then), and so I bought 2 of those... but essentially, its the same racket as the Graphite.  I'm sure the current sticks are good, but a bit too gimmicky for me.
