News On Future Films Based on Comics/Paranormal/Sci-Fi

I never noticed this until now

How Asian people draw their characters so un-asian like? Blue eyes/ Green Eyes Caucasian facial features etc.

What that about?

it kinda depends on what sort of anime you're talking about. Im not super versed in all things anime, but I know that the characters in Akira look pretty asian. They just dont look ridiculously stereotypically asian, because thats a western perspective

Anime just tends to exaggerated some features, giant eyes, bulging muscles, crazy hair, etc...

But iirc Animes main influence from the start were US comic strips and the movies in the US. There are also some Disney influence too.

Great news though it was kind of a given!

Joss Whedon to Write and Direct The Avengers 2

During Disney's earnings call today, chairman and chief executive Bob Iger announced that Joss Whedon has officially signed on to write and direct The Avengers 2. He also revealed that Wheadon will have a hand in the creation of the proposed Marvel TV show for ABC.

I thought they'd offer a 2 picture deal to lock him in for the trilogy, like nolan. I'd hate for him to set up a great middle movie for an epic conclusion for some other director to just trash it. Avengers 3 cannot be spiderman3,xmen3, or blade trinity.

Son according to some ppl from Japan, DB characters were created as white ppl. It's real crazy stuff. Notice unlike most anime/manga the location and time where DB takes place is ambiguous, there is no America or Japan. All I've ever seen there is white ppl and black ppl as far as humans, everything else is talking animals standing upright and wearing clothes and hybrid humans who are pink, purple and light blue/green. None of the DB characters are drawn to look Asian. It's something that's stretched across anime and manga for some reason.

what about that little bald dude, He was some kinda tibetan/shaolin monk. He's got to be asian right?
You talking about Krillin with no nose or or the albino one (Chaou-Su)? Well with either, there have been things based off real world things like monks and what not but they've never specified heritage or nationalities and they're not drawn to look like they come from any specific place.

And to be clear it's not that there aren't any "built" Asian superheroes, it's just a lot of them aren't famous or anywhere near part of a flagship franchise.

Also like Sunfire for instance, is a hero in Japan but Marvel tends to write their stories realistically, so he'll come off as a douche when the majority American Marvel heroes visit or when he goes to America so he isn't really seen as a superhero. Same goes for Collective Man in China, he's there hero but is a villain outside of the country most times.

So you'll just have to settle for Amadeus Cho and Shang Chi even if they're somewhat the stereotypical martial arts and genius Asian character type.

Yeah there are female ones but I'm pretty sure rck is a dude but maybe he wouldn't mind dressing up as one of them.

Jubbilee is barely c-list though and Psylocke being Aasian gets pretty offensive when you look in to her back story. She's a British chick in an Asian girl's body due to a body swap.

Whaa??

I'm not as big on comic as I was back in the gap, but is this new??? I used to be CRAZY about some Psylocke.

Ben Affleck approached to direct ‘Justice League’
By Claudine Zap | Movie Talk – 3 hours ago

(Photo: Jim Spellman)It will take a super director to take on the superhero team movie "Justice League." Variety is reporting that Warner Bros. has approached Ben Affleck to lead the DC comic book project.

Affleck isn't Joss Whedon, the "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" wunderkind who directed the megahit "The Avengers." And he's not Christopher Nolan, who brought back Batman in the "Dark Knight" trilogy's stunning reboot -- and who already said 'no' to a 'Justice League' movie.

But the 39-year-old Affleck is a successful director ("The Town"), an Oscar-winning writer ("Good Will Hunting"), and an actor who even suited up as Superman in the biopic about George Reeves (who played the superhero on TV) in "Hollywoodland."

Similar to the Marvel comic book-based "Avengers," "Justice League" would star a team of superheroes. Headliners could include the DC comic book characters Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, Green Lantern, and the Flash.
"Justice League" chatter comes along with news that Whedon has agreed to direct the "Avengers 2" movie.

Interest in "Justice League" on the Web sent a storm of comments to Twitter, leading the movie title to become a trending topic. Comments included, from
Steven Weintraub @colliderfrosty, "Ben Affleck has proven himself to be a great director. If he wants to do Justice League, I'm all for it."

ErikDavis @ErikDavis joked, "I will only back an Affleck-directed 'Justice League' movie if all the superheroes have thick Boston accents."

Seth Grahame-Smith @sethgs added, "For those who say there's no chance for peace in our time -- a Marvel character might direct a Justice League movie."

The Marvel character Affleck played is one project the actor might prefer people forget. The star took on the role of "Daredevil," a movie that he told MTV led him to swear off superhero films.

But Affleck's superhero past doesn't seem to bother Warner Bros. Sources told Variety that the actor and director is the only candidate to receive Will Beall's script.

Not that anything's certain. Variety says talks will happen in the coming days. One point to possibly iron out: Affleck has said in the past that he'd direct only movies in which he could also star. So could the A-lister be slipping into a spandex outfit for justice?

SlashFilm doesn't think so, pointing out that the director of "Argo" told England's Daily Record in 2010, "If there's anything I can promise you, it's that the years of superhero are behind me."

But directing a bunch of superheroes could be in Affleck's future.

me thinks JLfail....

Yeah it's messed up but iirc it happened in the 80s and those were some wild times and a twist in a character's history wasn't that uncommon. Plus I think they felt they could kinda get a parallel to Rogue's story when she stole Ms. Marvel's memories and powers. Many feel it was just a cheap way to bring in an Asian character technically.

She started off the twin sister of Captain Britain, discovered she was a mutant and then switched bodies with an Asian mutant named Kwannon in a later story. I think the Mandarin was involved and brain washing and this one villain of Wolverine's. I can't remember that well. They had similar powers, one could do a psi-dagger, the other a psi-sword or it started one was telepathic and the other was telekinetic and when they switched bodies they shared powers.

I know it's ****** up but they've switched bodies back forth at least twice from what I remember. The most messed up part is they end up killing Kwannon in Betsy's body in some story with Wolverine. Then Betsy dies, then her other insane brother resurrects her as her original self (and makes it perfect) but still draw her looking the same way and to be honest she was never drawn distinctly looking like she was Asian. Then in a more recent story crazy old Madelyn Pryor digs up Betsy's corpse, resurrects Kwannon in that body and restores it, controls her to attack the X-Men along with other mutants, badly burn/disfigure Betsy's body, and then body switches again with Kwannon.

In many ways that story seemed to just be a way to get Betsy back in an Asian body and kill Kwannon again.

I think Marvel does a decent job with representing Asian superheroes (especially since their a US based comic company)

Shang-chi sparring with Captain America (and winning a round)

watching Hellboy 2 right now on FX. i forgot how much i enjoyed it. when we getting a 3rd one?
There wasn't supposed to be one, but GDT recently just said he's gonna make it happen...he says that a lot though.
y would they make the ending how it did. it made me presume it would be
I don't think it was ever a story thing. He always wanted to make a Hellboy 3, but Hellboy 2 didn't especially make all that much money and he (like usual) added 5 or 10 other projects onto his plate that he wanted to get done first...so it sorta became...welp, there won't be one.

But now that At the Mountains of Madness is dead, he's been talking about finishing the series off. I'm there if it happens.
