Fantastic Four Reboot Casting Call Reveals A Potentially Very Different Origin Tale

These things aren’t always 100% correct (granted, for the purposes of soliciting auditions from actors, they really don’t have to be), but a new casting call for lead, supporting and background actors for Josh Trank’s Fantastic Four reboot seems to reveal some detailed plot and character descriptions, and they are very different from the traditional comic story – and the 2005 film adaptation – that we are used to.

Here’s what Acting Auditions posted as the official description of the film:

“The Fantastic Four’ will tell the story of two very young friends, Reed Richards and Ben Grimm. After an event transforms the boys, they find themselves empowered with bizarre new abilities. Reed becomes a scientific genius who can stretch, twist and re-shape his body to inhuman proportions. Ben becomes a monstrous, craggy humanoid with orange, rock-like skin and super strength. However, the two end up being owned by the government and used as weapons. But after they mature, two others with powers come into the picture – Sue Storm “The Invisible Girl” and Johnny Storm “The Human Torch.”

Sounds like rumors of Trank doing more of an Ultimate Fantastic Four story may have been correct, more fitting of the young cast he’s putting together, and this outline sounds like it has a lot in common with Trank’s own Chronicle as well.

Acting Auditions also says Michael B. Jordan as Johnny is the only confirmed cast member and all the other roles are up for grabs, but we know that’s not exactly true.

Also unclear is if the February 10th production start date is correct, because that seems really soon for a film that only has one confirmed cast member thus far. But things are officially moving right along and I’m officially excited about everything we’re hearing so far.
Full on UU adaption as far as some gov't involved goes. Not mad at it. If the Storm siblings come in later already powers they may be mutants.

Soo...Reed Richards becomes smart after the transformation? I'm all for making an origins movie with a twist...like amazing spiderman...but this is ridiculous :smh:

Saw that rumor last week and I can get along with everything else but Reeds needs to be smart from the start.

They also got to cgi Thing this time around.

I ignored that when I read it. Some times in those types of short synopsis things don't translate well and the full description isn't stated. Reed not being naturally smart would be a huge problem.

I can't think of Reed just being a regular guy that gets gifted super intelligence.

i feel like the only thing FF and FFRSS got right was Johnny Storm and the Things look

i HATED FFRSS. HATED. i aint a comic book guy so when i read about how POWERFUL Silver Surfer was i was so hyped to see him on screen.

only to have him de-powered for most of the movie

I have a handful of buddies who are online critics who went into seeing this film at Sundance blind. Thought it would be a comedy based on the silly name. Said it was a great horror film. Very surprised and recommended it highly.

they also made a great pick with who they chose for doom (julian mcmahon).. the execution of the character, not so much

but that was pretty much it

I liked it too. Something slightly similar, I really really liked League of Extraordinary Gentlemen even though it failed in properly adapting Moore's work. Really love the first half of it where they form the team; Dr. Jekyl & Mr. Hyde, Dorian Gray, and Nemo coming through with the Nautilus.
