News On Future Films Based on Comics/Paranormal/Sci-Fi

1. Tranformers 4: It's probably gonna make close to a bili just off of international markets alone so I say it's almost guaranteed to top this years summer box office.
2. HTTYD2: Animated movies have made a killing recently and it's a sequel...should do big numbers
3. Spidey 2: I see it topping the first one for sure but not too sure if it'll put up box office busting numbers like Raimi's movies with the mixed reviews it's been getting.
4. Godzilla: Kinda see this being a sort of sleeper smash hit that's gonna make a ton of money,it should start getting more buzz once the marketing machine hits overdrive next month
5. GOTG: I see this pulling a bit more money than Star Trek last summer but not too sure by how much seeing as it's a brand new cinematic property but with Marvel attached to it and with the casting, I see it making about the same as IM1 which would probably be even better than what they're expecting.

You could switch up DOFP and GOTG at 5 imo

What marvel and dc need to do is have good cartoon series again. I've been watching young justice, justice league, and justice league unlimited on netflix. Not a fan of what marvel has with those silly spiderman and hulk shows.
Marvel doesn't care to develop their animation dept anymore than they have. So get use to the stuff on the disney channel. Animation doesn't make them THAT much more money and they're completely fine with solely targeting children instead of making it all ages.
Disney execs wanted the Avengers to come out first then branch into individual movies. Feige and Whedon told them that makes no sense.

Where are you getting this? Serious question.

IronMan and Incredible Hulk were already made before Disney even bought Marvel. Disney bought Marvel in Dec of 2009 but IM2 filming wrapped in Jul of 2009. That is 3 films already out before Disney bought Marvel. Thor 1 (filming started Jan 2010 so this film has been in production long before Disney got Marvel) and Cap1 (filming started June 2010, again been in pre-production before Disney got in there) are actually still distributed by Paramount.

As a matter of fact, Disney still had to buy the distribution rights for the Avengers and IM3 from Paramount, they did this in October of 2010.

Disneys first distribution with Marvel is the Avengers so how did Disney try to push Marvel to make Avengers when 3 of the individual films were already done and the other have been in pre-production/filming before Disney bought them?

When did Feige and Whedon say no? What origins films did they make with Marvel under Disney, before the Avengers?
I get insanely tired of ppl acting like they're in the know of what Disney does let and doesn't let Marvel do. From sex appeal promo posters to the format in which they release their movies. The amount of crap ppl make up in their head is sad  :smh: It's either that or they have poor memory.

There's literally never been anything about Disney wanting an Avengers film that lead to solo films leaked anywhere online. That's exactly what DC has been doing and that's only been since the JL movie that never got made which was like 4 years ago or something.

Let's do our prediction for your top 5 highest grossing box office film of the summer. Not what you'd like to see or what you think will be the best film but what you see making the most money.

My top 5 would be...

1. Transformers 4 (T3 easily made a billion and this one has dinobots! Can't see this one flopping)
2. ASM2 (people love Spidey and with a slew of villains, could be right up there)
3. How to Train your Dragon 2 (realy no other competition on the children films, I could see this doing close to Monsters/Despicable sequels numbers)
4. Dawn of the Planet of the Apes (this is a trend, people love sequels, 1-3 are sequels)
5. Guardians of the Galaxy (even though it's Marvel, this'll be my dark horse and one that I want to succeed the most so I'll put it as my 5th)

Whats your top 5 box office of the summer 2014?

Are these your predictions for worldwide gross or just domestic?

Worldwide, TF4 is definitely winning hands down, it'll probably get over a billion (Asia loves them TFormers). But for domestic, I think theres a good chance TF will miss 300m.

My top 5 dom

1.Spidey
2. How to Tran Your Dragon
3. Godzilla (best marketed film of the year so far... belive the hype!)
4. TF4
5. Days of Future Past

HTTYD2 - Animated film. First movie took a little bit to get on people's radars. Not the case here. Especially once the reviews get out.
T4 - Michael Bay's ruined childhood film would take top spot but new character = new franchise. I dont think this one is joining the billion dollar club. It will do less than T3 just like ASM did less than Spidey 3
ASM - Truly the only Marvel movie done right outside Marvel Studios (out of the people who still have their marvel rights)
GOTG - Phase 2 is guaranteed $600M
Godzilla - The kinda out of the box movie with familiar characters that everyone sees anyway.

Isnt thanos going to be mostly cgi?

The entire movie is gonna be mostly CGI. But yes, so is Thanos.

EDIT: Edited predictions

Well, Disney has taken their first steps to destroying the Star Wars franchise for absolutely no reason.....

Following today's announcement of Lucasfilm's new unified storytelling approach, Disney Publishing Worldwide is proud to announce their first step into that larger world, beginning with Del Rey Books. The publishing program will feature new adult fiction novels set in the beloved galaxy far, far away, and will be closely connected to the cinematic entertainment currently in development at Lucasfilm.

Star Wars novels consistently rank on the New York Times Bestseller lists -- from the very first tie-in novel, an adaptation of Star Wars: A New Hope released by Del Rey in 1976, to the recently published Star Wars: Kenobi -- and dozens of titles in between. With over 75 million copies sold worldwide, these books have captured the imaginations and creativity of authors who have enriched the Star Wars experience for fans around the globe.

Going forward, Lucasfilm has begun mapping out the narrative future of Star Wars storytelling that will appear on film and television and in other media so that all projects will benefit from real-time collaboration and alignment. The future Star Wars novels from Disney Publishing Worldwide and Del Rey Books will now be part of the official Star Wars canon as reflected on upcoming TV and movie screens.

"With the establishment of the Lucasfilm Story Group and our even greater focus on unified storytelling, we expect our entire publishing program to be stronger and more meaningful than ever before," said Jeanne Mosure, senior vice president and group publisher, Disney Publishing Worldwide. "We're extremely excited to kick off this new strategy with Del Rey Books."

The first novel to benefit from this deeper collaboration is Star Wars: A New Dawn, by bestselling author John Jackson Miller. Set prior to the events of the forthcoming animated series Star Wars Rebels, this novel tells the story of how two of the lead characters of the series, Kanan Jarrus and Hera Syndulla, came to cross paths. To tell this important backstory, Miller benefited from contact with series executive producers Dave Filoni, Simon Kinberg and Greg Weisman, who together ensured this tale will be part of the Star Wars canon of storytelling going forward. It is scheduled for hardcover and eBook release on September 2, 2014.

"We're extremely proud of the hundreds of amazing Star Wars books we've published at Del Rey," said Scott Shannon, SVP, publisher, Del Rey and Digital Content, "And now we're excited to finally be able to call our upcoming novels true canon -- a single, cohesive Star Wars storyline -- all while keeping the amazing backlist of Star Wars Legends content in print."

In years past, the storylines that would appear in print and on screen were developed separately, resulting in an "Expanded Universe" that differed in ways large and small from the filmmaker's "canon." These rich stories provide a treasure trove of characters to fall in love with -- and deep worlds to explore and will live on in both physical and digital editions, newly-branded as Star Wars Legends.

This is the about the same as having Tony Stark be The Hulk, and Thor be a female, and Captain Russia instead of Captain America.

Really, really, stupid decision on Disney's part. :smh:

My predictions are worldwide. I also think worldwide, Godzilla could replace GotG on the 5th place just because this Godzilla is pretty much OG and even if it fails int he US, it'll be huge outside of it. I'll stick to GotG at fifth though just because I think it'll also hold people over til Star Wars comes out.

i think TF4 and DOFP are going have to earn their money.. a good amount will go opening weekend, but they wont make the expected numbers..

but if the movies are good, then i expect a better than expected 2nd weekend numbers.. with people waiting to hear before seeing

x-men first class made less than 400 mill and the latest wolverine movie made just over 400 mill

i think godzilla and gotg will do extremely well and are locks in the top 5.. rise of the planet of the apes made $481 mill and i expect the sequel to go over 500 mill

I forgot about Dawn of the Planet of the Apes. Now I am unsure which movies will be number 4 and 5 between Planet of the Apes, GOTG, and Godzilla. I'll stick to my guts tho

One of the few times I'm happy I didn't read the books.

Hate to say I told you so CP since I knew you were hype to see what you've already be adapted to screen.

I think one main reason they did this is cuz they might have to pay those authors more for adapting their works so instead they just bring in their own writers for books, animation, etc. to work closely with the guys making the films. They basically say so in the last few quotes. They want across the board corporate synergy. On the low they probably just announced that this will also be apart of the SW comics Marvel will be making.

Maybe somebody can mine the ideas of all the books they're ditching and just create their own movie franchise one day. Cuz I know there's a lot of books and it's a bit crazy to just leave all of them unused for film.

I think they did it to bring Chewbaca back. And because they're stupid and Lucas believes his lame *** vision is the more "cannon". :rolleyes

They'll still make more money than they'll know what to do with, but it's a complete failure on their part to sweep everything under the rug and rewrite what's already been told. I don't care how they spin it.

Well one thing they're banking on is that not just SW fans but other ppl they expect to rope in to watch will come watch regardless if it's based off the books or not.

It's interesting to think about though. Cuz if Stan Lee was 50 years younger, he'd be very involved in the MCU and I'm pretty sure he'd be directing things to be done his way and not based off of theUltimate universe similar to what he did when he left publishing to help develop the cartoons and failed Spider-Man tv show.

Lucas obviously though has been making movies so there's a difference but there's also no denying he's lost it with the majority of his creations and has just been looking to cash in. Although he doesn't have sole say like he use to I wouldn't be surprised if he suggested to Disney for them to do something completely new. Plus this announcement pretty much announces the end of all of those now non-canon books right? Disney's in charge so Lucas licensing deal with those other guys must be over. So damn you may not even be able to enjoy in the books either.

The other books had basically ran their course, so them being over is ok. That part isn't a big deal.

Pretending they don't excist, is BS.

Oh okay. Guess for them it'll be a new universe. New continuity.

I mean so far the movies don't match the comics as much, same names and villains but plots are vastly different. Same goes for the cartoons. Plus it's not like Star Wars started off as a book and made it to film.

I have no problem with it.

Although those books were best sellers and what not, those readers make up merely a fraction of the feature films viewing audience.

It's a bummer Disney couldn't appease those hardcore fans with staying true to the books, but doing this allows them a little more freedom to tailor the films for a more rounded audience. Smart move on their part.

I like the changes to the movies. A lot of this **** don't translate well anyway. As long as they are true to the characters, they could just be based off comics instead of spot on interpretations. Though I am likely in the minority that feels this way.

The changes I don't like is when it feels like it wasnt planned but they just ran with it anyway (like how the cosmic cube is an infinity gem).

John Campea is annoying as hell, but he's usually on point. Batman Begins, Man of Steel and Green Lantern all came out in the middle of June and TDK and TDKR in the middle of July. Sure, BvS would still win out in a head-to-head with Cap 3, but it makes zero sense to have it even come to that.

These idiots were foolish in the first place for going up against Marvel for no reason. If they get backlash for moving, they deserve it. They wouldn't have tried that stunt if it were the Avengers (which would be a more comparable movie).

Disney “Struggling” With ‘Captain America 3′ Release Date

But no one in a million years thinks both Captain America 3 and Batman vs. Superman will open on the same date. Now, the chairman of Disney Studios said the company is “struggling” with the Captain America 3 release date.

The quote came from a new interview with Disney Studios chairman Alan Horn, as recounted by Variety reporter Brent Lang.

"We'll see. We're struggling with it" Alan Horn on #CaptainAmerica3 debuting against #BatmanvsSuperman

Who could blame him? After the huge (and continuing) success of Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Captain America 3 is a huge film for Marvel and Disney. It’ll be the first post Avengers: Age of Ultron film featuring a member of the team and the early May release is where Iron Man 3 had unprecedented success. But Batman vs. Superman combines two of the biggest superheroes in the world and will almost definitely win in a head to head showdown.

IDK. Maybe it's cuz I'm stuck but if that villains **** works out with Sony, Marvel should do a Thunderbolts netflix show based of the OG comics.

EDIT: I mean netflix show
