NT's LEGAL Gun Thread UPDATE...First Youtube Firearm Review Page 61

^That's going to depend on the state/city you live in.

I'm in VA, and there is no gun registration. If you buy from an FFL, you do have to fill out federal and state paperwork and pass the NCIS background check before you take possession. If you do a private deal (i.e. one individual selling to another) all you need is valid VA id, and no knowledge or reasonable suspicion of that individual being a felon or mentally ill. Some people will insist on a bill of sale to 'protect' themselves, but it's not required by law.

More than likely, if your in the south or west (minus california) you probably won't have to register anything. best place to check is your state police website.

I'm in Alabama so we don't have to register the only reason I asked was because the paper that came with my box told me to register to protect my investment and blah blah so I was just wondering.

Ohhhhh, that's probably the product warranty registration. I've never bothered to fill one of those out, any decent manufacturer will warranty their products despite who the original purchaser was.

I've seen slides that are rusty what's the best rust prevention on my slide.

Example

Best way to keep the rust oxidation way is to keep her lightly lubricated/oiled. Not too much because extra oil/lube will attract dirt and particles.

So pour a drop or two of gun oil on the slide after I finish cleaning it or how often would you put oil on it?

depends on what it goes through. Is this a carry gun thats gonna see 95 degree days with 90% humidity on a regular basis? Or is this something your keeping in the house, in a dry cool place?

Generally speaking, I clean my guns every 1,000 rounds or so. I lube about the same schedule as long as I haven't had any issues. If it's a carry gun, i'd say twice a month, maybe even once a week depending on how sweaty you are and outside conditions. If it's a house gun, every 3 months or so.

a couple of drops with an oil saturated rag rubbed into all the exposed metal pieces on your gun works wonders. Also, most guns normally aren't gonna rust like that. It looks like that slide was stripped (m&p's have stainless steel slides). With Tennifer or Melonited ( ferritic nitrocarburizing) parts, there's going to be much more corrosion/rust protection.

Yes it's an everyday carry since I only have one. I bought the Hoppe's cleaning kit which came with the rod,gun oil and bore cleaner. I used the solvent bore cleaner on all the metal parts of the gun and I lubed the slide and the four metal parts on the inside of the frame. Now should I just go back and let the gun oil sit on the slide or you think letting the solvent sit on the slide was enough. BTW thanks to the whole community for answering all my questions since I didn't know much about firearms.

I suggest YouTube for cleaning tips and just about anything gun related. IMO it's easier seeing an example of what should be done rather then reading it.

I learned how to take apart all my guns and cleaning them from videos online.

That's what I did I disassembled it and cleaned it all the good stuff. I just didn't see anybody put gun oil on the exterior slide tho.

Lol yeah...when I bought my Mossberg 930 I had to do that..Ok and my Glock  no shame, just wanted to do it the right way first. I tried to take apart my 1911 without instruction and got the infamous idiot mark on the frame :smh:

Lmaooooo I barely got away with the idiot mark I couldn't get my 1911 back either. Matter I got so mad I left it alone for a day and finally got it the next day.

And not to get all political, but if history has taught us anything, it's that politicians WILL try to ban guns. It actually happened from 94-04 with the Assault Weapons Bill (Ban). A lot of dudes in this thread are younger (than me, at least), and don't remember that time period (I actually got my first handgun a few months before the law ended in Sept), but reading about it in various places online, **** was real. Definitely a good thing to google, but the gist was no new civilian sales of magazines over 10 rds (magazines made before Sept ’94 were ok, along with magazines made specifically for Law Enforcement), and not allowing things like folding/telescoping buttstock, detachable mags, flash hiders etc, basically cosmeic features that did not change the fundamental operation or use of the gun. From what I’ve read, Used AR mags were selling for $25-$30 a pop, Glock mags were $60-$80 a piece, HK mags were $80-$100 plus.

Right now, we're in a decent place. Ammo prices are consistently coming down, and in stock at many online retailers even if you cant find it in person. Pistol magazines are plentiful and relatively cheap right now; I'm paying $25-$30 per m&p mag, glock mags are about the same, most hk mags are around $35-$50. This is the golden age for AR mags, ultra reliable polymer magazines are$10-$15 per on sale, good quality USGI/USGI style are around $8-$12.

I don't want to be Chicken Little, but right now is absolutely the time to stock up on EVERYTHING you think you might need. Hell, I have a 10 glock 17 mags because one day down the road, there's a good chance I'll own another g17. You don't even need to spend a ton of money at once (though it ends up being cheaper in the long run). Before Sandy Hook, I used to buy at least 1 box of 9mm everytime I went to WalMart/gunstore. Because of that I had enough 9mm range ammo to last a few months into the drought before I finally ran dry. Nowadays, my goal is to fill one AR magazine every payday/ every time I go to the gun store or I see brass cased for less than $9 per box. I figure by the end of this year, I’ll have enough to fill half my mags. This is my ammo stash, I’m not even counting this as stuff I might shoot any time soon. I’m taking this stuff, putting it in a box in my workroom, and forgetting about it.

A local guy I trade brass with told me after Sandy Hook and insanity, he decided he was going to buy enough components to reload 50,000 rounds of every caliber he shoots. A year ago I thought that was extreme. Now, I'm just jelly I don't have the money or hookups on components to do that. My new goal is by the end of year, to have enough components to load 10k 9mm and 10k 45.

Go ahead and pickup a few extra pmags, or that extra box of ammo if you can afford to. I don’t ever want to be in a situation where I pay $18 a box for range ammunition. Colt's are $900 at a lot of places if you can wait for sales. But whatever you do, do it now before the 2016 election cycle really starts.

I try and hold on to about 2k in each caliber I own.
I don't load so I don't have components for that.
So I just stack my ammo. My goal is to get another 2 AR's and 2 more AK's by mid 2015. By the end of this year I should have my glock game up. Already working on the mags. Just ordered a bundle pack of 10, 33 round mags for 265 shipped. Despite still not having any glocks. Like Richie said stocking up on stuff because down the road I'll need it. And I can always sell it and get my money back.

Me personally I'm not for all the panic about guns and ammo, that type of thinking is what drove the prices up in the first place...I don't need more than 200 rounds of non target ammo for my firearms. Like honestly what are we expecting? No like really? Ok natural disasters happen which can destabilize security, but people act like firefights are going to happen indiscriminately.

People aren't going to like this but eff it...you see amongst more than a few firearm owners there is this fantasy of going out in a blaze defending the home front and having David Koresh (look him up if you don't know) amounts of weapons and ammo stocked up "For That Day". The chances of that actually happening is slim to none and slim just left. It's not quite paranoia but it's not all the way logical either.

One thing I'm glad I was in ACTUAL warzones was that it gave me true perspective. You see there it wasn't about wondering if a guy was gonna come kick my front door down trying to kill me and rape my woman...we were literal surrounded by people who wanted us dead point blank period. Imagine walking back from the market and mortars falling less than 150 yards from your position, imagine you being in the same camp as Afghan National Army guys who have Taliban embedded in their ranks waiting for the right time to kill Americans and allies...those are things I actually lived through...these are the reasons why we kept our M4's magazine loaded while we were eating, sh****, and sleeping...BUT I made it through without any post-tramatic stress or problems because I kept my head and never allowed myself to be paranoid. If something were to go down I was prepared. But guess what I only had 3 loaded mags...It's not like I had 700 rounds of ammo.

Hoarders gonna hoard, preppers gonna prep, but the whole idea of stashing enough ammo for a small army is kinda OD...and the mentality behind that needs to stay small and compartmentalized because that is what drives prices up and creates chaos, and to be honest when it comes to perception which unfortunately is misinterpreted as reality, this type of mentality is what brings a bad albeit unfair representation on the firearm community.

Also people underestimate the gun lobby here in the US. One of the reasons why the President wasn't able to "ban" guns and ammo like he wanted to was because of the gun lobbyists. The firearm industry remembers what happened with the "assault" weapon ban, and that's why they are fighting so hard for it not to happen again.

Get your ammo, shoot to become proficient with your firearm in case you ever do have to use it, and yeah even have a supply of rock and roll ammo saved away, but don't think you have to buy into the get it now because it will be gone way of thinking...once you do it's hard to lose that way of thinking.

I'm pro firearms all the way, I just feel our future is more safe if we lose some of the radical and somewhat extreme thinking that populates our community.

Yeah panic buying is annoying to say the least.

Didn't some ak importer just get banned from bringing them here?

So are those M1s Barry wouldnt let Korea export still sitting there or did they scrap them? That whole situation makes me angry just thinking about it.

Elder while I agree with you. I stock up personally not because I expect to go into a gun fight but more so for the fact I need ammo to go shoot when I please and not be looking around to get ammo when it's not attainable. Nothing like going to your safe grabbing a few hundred rounds rather than hunting it down.

Elder hit it on the head.. I tried telling my Mom and her boyfriend that since they own a gun shop. They kept talking about "What if they have a ban?" and all their customers were FREAKING OUT. The shop couldn't keep anything in stock... they had to limit ammo purchases to 2 boxes at a time and were forced to save things for their regulars because they had people calling in from hours away just for ammo.

It was good at the time, things flew off the shelves... but things died down and business slowed to a crawl. I kept trying to tell them "Nothing is going to happen, stop drinking the kool-aid" and sure enough... nothing happened. I'm all for being prepared and proficient, and even a little extra "just in case" but like Elder said, what are we expecting? If **** really hits the fan, I honestly don't think the difference between a positive outcome and a bad one will be an extra few hundred rounds of ammo. Unless we're talking zombie apocalypse, but that's for another thread

Clearer pic of my pistol.

They banned ARs in my state last year during the panic. I was only able to get 2 lowers before the law came into affect. One of them was a polymer lower which sucks compared to the billet one.

Though ARs are banned, we were still able to get a heavy barrel (HBAR) AR and SBR AR but lowers were considered banned which was stupid. Last week, state police released letters stating lowers are legal if configured for pistol, HBAR or SBR. So now I can get lowers again :smokin
Now I can swap out my polymer lower :smokin
