It all depends on how much the shops gonna give you for trade in value.  My guess is not even half of what you originally paid.  Try to sell it privately or to a friend to maximize your money.  Remember that shops will buy low in order to flip it for a profit.

Better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it.  You never know what can happen and I'd rather not be a victim.

I traded it and I'm happy with my trade honestly I didn't get burned too bad I got 175 for it I spent 319...the difference ended up being 375 which I didn't mind because it's my fault I ended up with the sd9ve because I wanted to be cheap. I got an extra mag, 4 backstraps, an actual carrying case, and a speed loader so I think the trade was well worth it.

I seriously support the second ammendment. I dont own a gun, but would always like the option to buy one. For some reason, people always think you have to be a gun fanatic to support the 2nd ammendment.


I'm really just wondering if we are so sheltered here, that we don't realize the severity of needing a firearm on the mainland.

Here, I think there are 7 people total in honolulu county who have a ccw permit. All of them are connected to local pd. There seems to be more people killed by officers using guns, than civilians using guns .
It's illegal to have a firearm in your vehicle, unless you are driving to the range or back, or to the police station and back. (I think gun store counts as range)
Let's say, you are a legal owner, who stops by 7-11 for a slurpee, officer sees a gun box (since that's what it needs to be in) in your vehicle, he can arrest you, and take your gun, since you now are a felon, you can no longer own the gun.

So you can see how it's a royal pita to own a gun here.

That super sucks living in a state with BS laws like that. I'd still rather jump through the hoops and have something than not.

I've only had to pull out once, but I was hella glad I had it when (if) I needed it.
 
Here in Louisiana gun laws aren't bad at all, I've been on the fence about ccw though. Being a young black male, I feel like encountering a police officer while I have a weapon would be a greater danger and has greater chances of happening than me randomly needing to protect myself while I'm out and about.

Has anyone here gotten any unwanted attention while carrying?
 
My boy got out of a speeding ticket because he was carrying. He's white. :lol:

I see your concerns though especially nowadays.

concealed means concealed.

I'm young(ish), big, black, bald head & beard.

carrying also means you can't do dumb ****. More responsibility. More serious consequences.
 
Exactly!

The same thing that can save your life can get you in a world of **** if you decide to point it at someone during some road rage, for example.

Need to be responsible and accountable when carrying, ten times over.

And regarding Hawaii's laws, I been knew they were strict, NYC is like that too but I'll never live in state that won't let me defend myself.
 
^everything they said besides if you get pulled over you would have your permit so you would be good as long as you don't motion towards it or anything

I noticed that in Louisiana, gun laws are fairly lax. Does being black have any impact on a decision to carry though? (I'm asian, half filipino, half Japanese for the record).
Because I live in hawaii, there really is a high amount of racial tolerance. One of the few places in the u.s. that isn't predominantly white. I felt ok all across the west coast, with the exception of in idaho. Got some dirty looks there, people straight up walk to me and ask if I'm mexican.

It definitely has an impact on MY PERSONAL decision. Like the other guys said, I SHOULD be ok because I'd definitely be responsible and have my permit at all times. I can just see things going bad unnecessarily

There's definitely some racial prejudice down here though. I just think it's easier to not ccw right now. We can actually open carry without a permit, you couldn't pay me to do that though! That's asking for trouble lol.

I don't wanna derail the thread tho.
Anybody know what I can use to clean the lens on my tlr? The eraser tricked worked well. Can't get the edges though

appreciate the responses. I'm still debating on buying a small firearm. .22 to 9 mm , if there is any inkling purchases will be clamped down upon.
 
Anyone have any recommendations for a rail for my DPMS with a gas block? I know I'm limited with options but was curious if anyone here has had he same experience and which rail they went with. Also not looking to spend $150 or $200.

Suprisingly random, but to clean the lens on my TLR-1's I use toothpaste and a paper towel/rag. Works like a charm.

How much you looking to spend? Most decent rail systems start around there.

The Troy Alpha tube rail is pretty solid, it uses the stock barrel nut so all you might have to do is remove the handguard cap if you have one. Since you already have a gas block installed, im guessing you don't want to mess around with removing the GB and barrel nut for another rail system.

No, not really looking to modify it to accomodate another system. Im not looking to spend that much, less than $100. If someone could articulate the difference between the cheap aluminum 2 pieces and the more expensive ones, I'd be more willing and able to justify the extra cash. Is the aluminum quality really that much different? Or are you just paying for the name. I'm more of a casual shooter, hence going with a DPMS. My next setup is what I plan to splurge on when building. This was my first AR so I'd like to get it completely where I want it and become a little more proficient shooting it before I start a build.
