My boyhood hero, I've always feared this day and one of the biggest regrets ill have in my life is never seeing him play.

Junior you will always be my favorite player.

Hoping I can grab a player tee off the mariners site

Glad he did it the right way, may not have the records that he could've, but at least he leaves with dignity and respect (until further notice, haha)

Damn. Say it ain't so...

He was the first poster I ever had up in my bedroom, before even Jordan

Mariners legend Ken Griffey Jr. has retired.

Manager Don Wakamatsu told reporters Griffey Wednesday afternoon. Griffey was not at Safeco Field and was not expected to attend Wednesday's game.

Sad the way he's going out though.

I'm glad I was able to see him play and hit a HR at Dodger Stadium back when he was still with the Reds.

Sad the way he's going out though.

In all honestly, he's probably too upset to show up at Safeco knowing he's not going to be back (as a player, at least).

He would have definitely gotten Hank Aaron's record if it weren't for the injuries...

One of the best swings in the majors.

Should have hung 'em up after last season.

Glad I had the chance to see him play live for a good chunk of his career, and it's a shame how people treated him in this city.

Thanks for the memories Griff.

Favorite player of all time

Thank you Griffey, my childhood idol

Damn I knew this was coming sooner or later. I honestly thought he should have retired a year or 2 ago. At least I can say that I seen him play and hit a home run way back in the late 90s before he left the Mariners for the Reds.

Damn. shocked it happened in the middle of the season.

wait is he retiring now or after the season? He deserves a final curtain treatment, I hope the Mariners do something special.
