Just copped a 46" Sony Bravia LCD...model KDL-46W3000..good purchase???

^Contrast ratios are marketing B.S. The true way to tell if a TV is good is to do the good ol' eye check. All a contrast ratio is, is a measurement ofwhite to black and I'm not even sure how they can measure it accurately. Why would you even worry about that as long as it looks good.

What I would've bought is the 42" 1080p Panasonic Plasma that is about $1,500 right now at Bestbuy, and you get a Panasonic Blu-Ray player free. Couldflip the BD player for an easy $350+ thus making the TV around $1,150. Plasma>LCD

LUIS you sure, i was on top of prices and the cheapest they had the Aquos was for $1299 @ circuit city, i copped one on Black Friday....In comparison youprobably could have waited and got a better price...IMO

Yea thats a pretty good price i work at Beat Buy and we sell it for 2250!! .. The tv is a good seller as well good choice........

If you look at the link i posted for the T.V, it says dynamic contrast is 16000 : 1 and true contrast is 1800 : 1.

On-screen ratio to the HDTV that the thread starter bought really is 1,800:1.

Yeah, people fail to see dynamic contrast or DC in small print. I know exactly what you're getting at.

That's why I've always encouraged people to call manufacturers and ask for on-screen or true contrast ratios when all that is advertised is DC...

...but some people just don't care and want a huge flat panel in their home.

In reality, it boils down to what the most common usage is for the HDTV being bought.

Dynamic contrast ratios should be taken into consideration if a lot of High-Definition or video gaming is involved.

All dynamic contrast really focuses on is different levels of black.

True contrast or "on-screen ratio" focuses toward contrast on the whole.

hey man, i was going to buy a tv from futureshop today too but decided to wait a day, will this deal be on tomorrow? would ab sound match prices? Also imcurious why u didnt go for the V3000 model which is 200 less and they pretty much the same tv, actually i like the v3000 sony piano black finish better, to thethread starter shoot me a pm id like to know how u made ur decision process as i will probably buy one tomorrow or try to get a price match on the w3000 orv3000

I also need help on your opinion, I'm planning to buy a 40" or 46" Sony Bravia LCD model KDL-40/46V3000

I'm buying it from the PX, coz the sale is till the 13th of Dec.
I'm stationed in Korea btw.

40" is $1799
46" is $1999

Opinions and comments are greatly appreciated. Thanks.

i did see the v3000 for avout 1700$...but the model was just outdated and looked old...i mean the specs were similar but the design did seem a littleolder...so i figured if im spending 1.5-2 g's...might as weel get something newer

the v3000 seems to have a more vibrant black finish on the bezel where the w3000 bezel seems quite dull

V series is the lowesr quality wise

W is in the middle

X is the best..and will set u back about 2600-3500 for a 46"

i went with the W since i dont need the best...plus the V looks very outdated

I'm gonna have to check out the PX to see if they have the W3000.
I think I saw one yesterday.

Found that they have the 46" W3000 model as well previously selling for $2199 now selling for $1999 at the PX
I'm gonna get one tomorrow.
