🦉The Official Drake Thread6️⃣ - Scary Hours 3 11.17.23

I don't know why I still remember this, but Country Grammar was the first song I ever downloaded on Napster

That whole album is dope though, might have to revisit it right now
Random fact: I was the only dudes with a cpu, internet with a cd burner in my hood way back when. I called myself being the cd guy, used to buy cds make copies and flip em. The first cd I burned and downloaded song by song was Chingy first album  thought I was on my way to the big money after that.

The time spent downloading an entire album and then burning them to CD's back then probably equated to a wage of like 30 cents an hour

Won't even front, those were the days tho :smokin

bruh, hate to bust your bubble! NO WAYYYYYY he was going to sell 2 million in a week? Like really? IYRTITL is only at 1.1 million (over a year later) WATTBA barely at 550k ish (know it's not a Drake solo album, but still). Nobody but Nsync and Adele sold 2 million in a week yet you think Drake would have? All albums leaks before it comes out. Carter 3 and basically Carter 4 still went on to sell a million in a week with leaks.

yea hate to burst your bubble but you're talking about wayne after cash money was already a thing.. wayne first 3 albums wasn't leaked.. get it right.. he already established a fan base thru the dying south..

unfortunately we'll never know.. bc of leaks.. ya know that was the secret to sales, appealing to women! that's who buys your ****! Drake got every girl in the country panties dropped, with out that leak, well over a mill first week..

Carter 3 was leaked twice and still sold a mill

It just depends on fanbase
700

700

Drake could hit 700k+ first week
Maybe in Canada he could hit that million first week

But in the USA
Might be a two week thing

Wayne was a whole different beast back then. And that was the end of the good Ole days when record sales meant something.

Carter 3 was one of his worse albums but as a c1,c2 and sqad up fan, u had to support dude. Little did we know he would never make music for the streets ever again.

Maybe if they going by today's rules. Streams, YouTube views then it's possible. But 2 million people buying his album in a day, **** no.

Yea folks talking crazy in here. Carter 3 came out almost a decade ago. A million album sales in a week isn't happening in 2016 without some questionable metrics by the streaming sites. That or OVO buys 500K copies..

I'm talking artistically. I don't care about record sales.

after all this anticipation, all the b grade bars on WATTBA AND IRFT (mixtapes I still like in spite of), all the waiting, the lack of singles.

If he drops Views and it has garbage tracks like Pop Style on it, I'll be really REALLY disappointed. It will be an big L in my eyes.

and I'm a toronto guy.
Osh keeping it all the way 100

Nah Im all for the new RIAA rules and it has nothing to do with drake. Top Dawg from TDE was wrong and silly and misguided for saying that plaque thing IMO

You cant equate old school ways of counting record sales with today's climate

The way ppl consume music has drastically changed and album sales should reflect that.

Like...I didnt think it was fair that for 5 bucks a month you could stream any artist's album that you wanted, an infinite amount of times, and it not count for anything in regards to the artist. That makes no sense to me.

With how prevalent streaming sites are, there's no incentive for a consumer to go out and spend 50 dollars on 5 albums when for 10 dollars a month they can listen to whoever they want. Therefore, you had ppl listening and streaming albums 100s of times and the RIAA didnt reflect that. Now they do

Im all for it

Kanye's album has been out on Tidal and out on the internet for how long now, maybe 4-6 weeks. Now it's on Apple music for a week and "supposedly" streamed so much that it equals 90K in album sales first week? That's dumb suspect. I can't get down with including streams for this exact reason. I'm not buying the streams.

Drake liked some dude's comments of him revealing the release dates and other info, guess you can expect some info tomorrow on OVO Radio :nerd:

naa that ain't it..

Things on guys comment had very specific details about songs and collaborations

okay i got it now

waiting for views is like waiting for your homeboy to pack you a bowl and youve had a long day at work and he invited you over to spark it up after work but hes taking too long to pass the bong
