🦉The Official Drake Thread6️⃣ - Scary Hours 3 11.17.23

Drake a rapper man. And views is a rap album. Y'all gotta cut it out. If y'all wanna criticize him for being corny, having a ghostwriter, or whatever...that's fine. But to deny his impact and to act like he's the same as a Justin Bieber or Katy Perry is flat out false.

Drake is in the Nelly/Ja Rule lane. And all of y'all consider them ***** rappers.

Dude is also widely popular with every demographic. Do some of you dudes even go to urban clubs? Kickbacks? Colleges? I party damn near every weekend...and you guaranteed to hear some Drake songs. How many good ***** was quoting "Started from the bottom" on their IG pics? Or talking bout "No new friends"? I know some 35-40 year old dudes from the trenches that will bump a Drake song from time to time. They aren't super fans...but if they hear a song they like...they'll bump it. Dude has all bases covered. And he just locked down the international demo.

To act like his only demographic is women and white people is a lie. And I don't even rock with him like that...but I'm not going to deny his impact.

He's at the highest success level you can get as a rapper...or artist period.
Lol Nelly and Ja Rule get slandered here on NT too
Terrible examples
Drake doesn't deserve a pass man for jacking rhymes and flows

clubs? kickbacks? parties? we off that... we meet up at juke jams. word to chance.  yall say views is a rap album but the majority of the album is pop. that is fact. and of the rap songs on there, only about half of them are exclusively rap. these are facts. nobody is saying that drake doesnt have something for everyone... just that hes a pop artist. and it is true.

lets not even get STARTED on drake and his style jacking.... im conflicted on dude as a producer. on one hand hes done some real *** ****  behind the scenes for his producers before that i respect him on. on the other, he uses people for a hit and discards them like makonnen, or the producer mike zombie who faded into obscurity immediately after signing to drake. why was popcaan snatched off controlla? why does drake think hes a yardie now? etc etc... dude is polarizing

You know 50 jacked the lyrics/flow/song 'I'm The Man' right?

Undeniably his biggest hit in years, he aint write it

Why arent we coming at his neck for it?

Dudes that discredit Drake have an issue with him and not his music at this point

You should've probably checked the 50 Cent thread before making this post

Doesnt seem to be a big issue though, at least not as big as dudes are making this Drake thing

I know it's probably cause he's "on top" right now

I'm not giving him a pass for none of that sht. You must've not read what I said . You can rightfully criticize him for that.

What I'm saying is let's not act like he's not making "rap albums"...because he is. Again, he's similar to Ja and Nelly with the type of music he makes. Weather you like it or not. They are rappers. And Drake is one too.

drake has a trail of bodies behind him of people he used to work with who complain about him jacking their style. its a lil too much for coincidence man. nobody cares about that trash 50 cent song to worry about whether it was stolen or not. drake is the biggest urban artist out in the US. hes also claiming to be the best at what he does yet all u hear from behind the scenes is drake jacked my stuff then left me hanging. reputation is a mofo when youre in the spotlight

No one cares about 50 cents music in 2016
And if you are on "top", aren't you supposed to be creative with your music? Setting benchmarks of musical creativity instead of stealing?

dude features on work with rihanna, all the sudden drake is speaking patois and drops controlla and one dance as singles...

go a lil further back. DRAM drops cha cha. drake drops his version of it called cha cha remix and then renames it to hotling bling.

Beyonce on top and she dont write her stuff

So shes not on top to you?

It ain't about who did it first, it's about who did it right

He clearly lives off that motto, it's been working for him

I'm sure his success outweighs the criticism from a bunch of internet dudes

Ja and Nelly were rappers at one point in time, Nelly past country grammar is a pop artist imo. He was chasing those pop hits too. No way u can have 3 singles as hotline bling, controlla and one dance and tell me he's a rapper, stop it I'm not buying that. He chasing that Pop money and it ain't nothing wrong with it. Talking bout clips and kick backs etc. I was just at the club Saturday night and only drake song that was played was Jumpman and work. Unless I'm in the wrong clubs and spots I've literally never heard one dance out unless I pass thru channel 955 (pop station) on the radio.

Dudes in here were literally saying they don't hear their demo bumping Drake. That's a lie. Clubs, Parties, Kickbacks, Colleges "juke jams"....whatever...Drake will get heavy play there. And this is at the urban spots.

Now EMINEM, Mcelemore, G-Eazy are rappers that are more pop stars than Drake. Their music gets ZERO play with the urban crowd...but they are hugely successful with the Pop crowd..while not registering with Urban music....while being "rappers"...which is an urban music genre.

Eminem won't even chart on the top hip hop & r&b chart....but he'll chart on top 40 and pop. Drake has the ability to impact both....and it's seen across the board. From social media, to events, to radio etc.

 I don't even listen to Beyoncé
Plus she hasn't gone on wax and said "I write my own rhymes" and credits her writers
Come on
Just admit Drake is a jocker who rarely credits the author of his style and rhymes
Plus it's disrespectful in rap culture to jack styles like that without paying homage
20 years ago you would have got shot for that
That's why rappers like Desiigner get slandered, they basically stole the Future flow

of all the people you could have made a point with...BEYONCE???

Drake pays homage a lot

A LOT

Not that it matters whether he does or not...I dont even think he cares to be labeled a rapper or not  he's more successful than ever right now, being labeled a "real" rapper is probably the last thing on his mind.

Look at Jay vs Nas...

We'll say Nas is the more "pure" artist, writes his raps, doesnt have ghost writers. Where has Nas gotten? A few thumbs up from hip hop purist heads here and there? His latest effort is jumping on a Future mixtape cut. Wayyy out his lane.

Jay...all his career people been saying "he bit biggie", "he sampled this", "he's a biter"...jay doesnt have to lift a finger for the rest of his life and can careless about being a "real rapper" he drops albums when he's trying to promote some other stuff

Which position would you rather be in?

u are the equivalent of the dude who debates why someones behavior is acceptable cuz "theyre getting money" right now. i hope ur aware of that. nobody is talking about their success. of course going pop = success. thats not the topic at hand. the topic at hand is that drake has stolen multiple styles. and drake pays homage? how? dude kicking artists off their song without even telling them before the album drops....and the song is in THEIR style. unless u think his biting = paying homage. then in that case he definitely is paying homage to the migos every time he raps.

That, plus 50 has been making dumpster music since 2009. For every flash of something good, there's a host of flat out awful music he's making. It either sounds generic and dated, or blatant trend-hopping.

It aint even that it's just, why are ya'll so obsessed over someone being a "real" rapper, would you say Kanye is a real rapper? Ya'll make it way more serious than it needs to be...Drake came out the gate doing songs with Bieber  I dont think he cares about looking "hard"

The successful ones know something we dont and it's most likely that skill =\= album sales

Drake USED to rap rap, now he throws floaters all day cause he knows its a sure thing.

I didnt mean for it to come off as "he getting money who cares" but even if Drake dropped Blueprint tomorrow all original lyrics, ya'll still would be here finding a way to discredit it.

Will said 'SFTB' is Drakes best song ever, and dudes in here saying "bu bu but Drake aint come from the bottom he shouldnt be singing that"

Like I said originally, most of the hate is against Drake the person and not the music

Rather be real like Nas
Plus he's not doing too bad himself
He's a venture capitalist

And who has Drake paid homage to other than UGK and Lil Wayne?
I will wait. He basically stole the Future flow before Future got hot, stole Big Sean's flow before he got hot, didn't give credit to Rappin 4 Tay in that guest verse for YG, and never has really given credit to Quentin until the word got out.

Drake can be a good rapper at times, that doesn't mean he doesn't deserve the scrutiny from us rap critics
It's all about pushing the craft to better standards, letting even worse jackers like Desiigner spit the same flow and bars is a damn shame

i agree with most of the drake hate is against the person not the music. and that he USED to rap but is cruising right now. but speaking for myself, i dont rock with people who dont hit their potential. dude shows u even on views that he CAN do it. but instead gives u 15 songs of foolishness. and no matter how much he says hes spitting fire before an album drops... its never the case. i dont care for anyone taking personal shots at dude. at any entertainer really. unless u know them personally, dont diss them as a person. critique their work or nothing at all.
